Arab is a linguistic identity whereas Muslim is a religious one. Not all Arabs are Muslims

Worse than the lady's confusion between Arab and Muslim were her further obvious confusion between Muslim and dangerous.

Mr. McCain, Arab-Americans and Muslim-Americans are decent, family-oriented citizens. The only thing wrong with calling Obama by either of these modifiers is that it would be incorrect. He is not an Arab ethnically, but rather northern European and Luo (Nilotic). He is not a Muslim but a Christian

It’s Just a Flesh Wound

The vast majority of Americans are dissatisfied with the direction of the country. So who are the 10 percent who think everything is A-OK?

10 percent of American citizens continue to be "satisfied." Consider the implication: more than 22 million men and women think the country is on the right track.

Who are these people? One in 10 Americans can't be repo men or Bush relatives. Satisfied? Now? Nobody's that Republican. Do these 10 percenters live in caves without TV, magazines, newspapers and the Internet—yet somehow still have a phone so that pollsters can reach them? And if you lived in a cave without HBO, would you really be "satisfied"?

Satisfied? Now? Who are these people?

Maybe the people who are satisfied just can't admit to what's happening.

Why Bother?

hello i respect your views and your beiliefs , but what i dont understand is if there is not a GOD why even bother with the subject. if he does not exsist then oh well. what could lead someone to telling thousands of people that there is no GOD. and why.

This sort of question comes up often enough - and it is, perhaps, legitimate to wonder why anyone who doesn't believe in gods would have a site that deals with the subject. After all, how many nonbelievers in unicorns have sites which discuss the nonexistence of unicorns?

The crucial difference here is that there aren't a lot of believers in unicorns going around tell people that they should believe in unicorns, that belief in unicorns is necessary for morality and happiness, that nonbelievers in unicorns can't be good citizens, or that belief in unicorns is fundamental to the nation's identity. There is, then, no real need to discuss the merits of belief and nonbelief in unicorns, is there?

Things like approving torture, holding prisoners in jail for years and years -- indefinite detention -- deprived of all legal rights, not allowed to communicate with their families who might not even know where they went, deprived of visits even from the Red Cross.

It's one step at a time. It's doing things like this we've never done before -- war crimes. First to foreigners, then it seeps into doing it to your own.

Easily done, next, one candidate for Congress arranges to get another candidate for Congress put on the list. Someone in office doesn't like someone: Put him on the list, etc.

Spy on nun's because they're against the death penality. Spy on other political views you don't like - even though the people involved Have Absolutely Nothing To Do With Violence or Terrorism.

DR Congo president's call to arms

Joseph Kabila called on citizens to protect the unity of DR Congo

Congolese President Joseph Kabila has made a televised appeal for people in the east to take up arms against rebel general Laurant Nkunda.

His comments came after Gen Nkunda said he wanted to "liberate" the whole of the Democratic Republic of Congo.

Meanwhile, the UN peacekeepers said rebel forces had withdrawn from an army base captured earlier this week.

Gen Nkunda was persuaded to withdraw from Rumangabo base with captured arms and supplies, an spokesman said.

Forces loyal to the general had overrun the base on Tuesday, forcing thousands of people to flee and capturing weapons abandoned by the fleeing government troops.

A man at the center of a voter-registration scandal told The Post yesterday he was given cash and cigarettes by aggressive ACORN activists in exchange for registering an astonishing 72 times, in apparent violation of Ohio laws.

"Sometimes, they come up and bribe me with a cigarette, or they'll give me a dollar to sign up," said Freddie Johnson, 19, who filled out 72 separate voter-registration cards over an 18-month period at the behest of the left-leaning Association of Community Organizations for Reform Now.

"The ACORN people are everywhere, looking to sign people up. I tell them I am already registered. The girl said, 'You are?' I say, 'Yup,' and then they say, 'Can you just sign up again?' " he said.

It's even under investigation in Bridgeport, Conn., for allegedly registering a 7-year-old girl to vote, according to the State Elections Enforcement Commission.

Bribing citizens with gifts, property or anything of value is a fourth-degree felony in Ohio

WASHINGTON - October 9 - A national veterans' organization sent a letter to the House and Senate leadership today expressing "grave concern" that an active duty combat brigade has been permanently assigned to a post on U.S. soil.

Citing a little-noticed article posted September 30 on the Army Times website, Veterans For Peace said the Pentagon's unprecedented move assigned the 3rd Infantry Division's 1st Brigade Combat Team to NorthCom, a joint command established in 2002, for a 12-month assignment.

Google welcomed hundreds of members of the Berkeley County community to the opening celebration of its new 600 million Data Center with a ribbon cutting ceremony. The event was mainly to thank the community, and the many regional and state leaders who helped make the Google data center a reality.

"This community embodies Google's creative, entrepreneurial and hard-working culture," said Andy Johnson, Google's Manager for Global Data Center Development. "We feel extremely fortunate to be part of such a welcoming community and a state so dedicated to fostering an environment that encourages innovation."

Governor Sanford and local leaders were present to give their own personal celebratory speech in appreciation of Google choosing SC and Berkeley County for their newest data center venture.

The homeland security mania has invited some startling abuses of police power, but we have yet to hear of any more knuckle-headed than one in Maryland. There, the State Police are sheepishly tracking down 53 innocent people to let them know they were entered as suspected terrorists on state and federal databases — for the Orwellian offense of engaging in peaceful protest.

The citizens had merely joined gatherings opposed to the Iraq war and capital punishment. Yet they were listed as terrorists three years ago on criminal intelligence rolls. “On the contrary, the groups were determined not to violate the law,” Stephen Sachs, the former Maryland attorney general, took pains to point out in a blistering report concluding that the runaway program violated constitutional rights and federal regulations.
