The Christianity that survived is a reinvented one in each generation as the result of skeptical attacks, sometimes coming from within. Just think of the modernist rift due to the enlightenment which divided all denominations to some degree. This division can be attributed to the skeptical attacks of Hume, Kant, Darwin, Nietzsche, Paine, Ingersoll, and many others. The liberal church is a testament to the effectiveness of the skeptical arguments.

The Christianity practiced and believed by any denomination today is not something the early church would recognize. Kreeft writes that when he teaches this material, his “students are always stunned and shamed to silence as Pascal shows them in these pensees their own lives in all their shallowness, cowardice and dishonesty.”

Here is one line from Pascal (from #136) that it worthy of a lot of meditation, especially in The Age of Internet:

I have often said that the soul cause of man’s unhappiness is that

he does not know how to stay quietly in his room.

<clipSource>http://thegospelcoalition.org/blogs/justintaylor/2009/11/03/why-are-we-so-busy/</clipSource>

Mukyokai & Pacifism

clipped by: emilswift
clipper's remarks: Small weaknesses in the Mukyokai opposition to Japanese Imperialism do not bear comparison with the outright compromise of the organized churches. As previously noted, the main factor in the Mukyokai independence was its lack of organizational structure. The denominational institutions were preoccupied with administrative and organizational survival, whereas the Mukyokai were free to be responsible for their actions as individuals, and therefore to witness their faith with honesty, integrity, and personal freedom.

Clip Source: www.asahi-net.or.jp

The idea of peace plays a central role in the Mukyokai people's Weltanschauung, and a considerable amount of literature on the topic has been produced since Uchimura's time. In an attempt to give a unified view of the different aspects considered by the various writers, we may draw the following general theory of peace. [27]

Peace is basically a state of mind which one reaches through intimate contact with God, who forgives man's sins and communicates to him His divine life. Should everybody have such a joyful experience of salvation and life, all men would feel united together in God, and true peace would be achieved in the world without difficulty.

Christianity itself

is a personal encounter with God; it is salvation and life. And the problem of finding peace is, after all, the problem of finding salvation and life.

Socratoad
clipper's remarks: This barbaric legislation stifles free speech by threatening anyone who is accused of “promoting” homosexuality with five to seven year prison sentences. Snitching on gay friends and family members is strongly encouraged because “failure to disclose the ‘offence’ within 24 hours of knowledge makes somebody liable to a fine or imprisonment of up to three years.”

Sadly, this witch-hunt has the blood stained fingerprints of leading American evangelicals. The Fellowship, (aka The Family) one of America’s most powerful and secretive fundamentalist organization’s, converted Uganda’s President Yoweri Museveni (pictured top) to its anti-gay brand of Christianity, which is the “intellectual” impetus behind the anti-gay crackdown. The clandestine organization’s leader, Doug Coe, calls Museveni The Fellowship’s “key man” in Africa. Jeff Sharlet, author of “The Family”, writes of the African strongman’s conversion:

Clip Source: www.truthwinsout.org

In March, American anti-gay activists traveled to Uganda for a conference that pledged to “wipe out” homosexuality. Seven months later, a draconian bill has been introduced that pledges to make good on this threat. The “Anti-Homosexuality Bill 2009” is so severe that it is designed to shred the spirit and suffocate the soul of gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender Ugandans. If it passes, Uganda will become a predator state that actively hunts down GLBT people to destroy them.

Uganda already punished gay intimacy with life in prison.
