STARTING POINT
In February 2006, while hunting quail, Vice President Dick Cheney accidentally shoots his friend, 78-year-old Texas lawyer Harry Whittington, in the face, spraying birdshot into his head, neck and torso. Whittington is helicoptered to a hospital.

FEVER PITCH
Whittington suffers a heart attack from a migrating pellet. A few days later, Cheney fesses up: "You can't blame anybody else ... I'm the guy who pulled the trigger." Then Whittington apologizes to him.

PRESENT DAY
Whittington still practices law in Austin. He says he's fully recovered, though pellets in his larynx changed his voice, and he still has birdshot in his chest, throat and eyes. Though Cheney's been "very kind" and calls him to check up, Whittington is no longer involved in Republican politics. "My biggest question," he tells NEWSWEEK, "is trying to figure out, 'Lord, why me?' "

Bush Wants $1 Billion to Georgia for Attacking South Ossetia

"fighting that began on the night of Aug. 7 when Georgia tried to establish control [Ed. via military invasion] over a breakaway [i.e. independent for over a decade] region, South Ossetia, only to be driven back by Russian forces".

And to put that $1 billion figure in perspective the articles says:

The aid would dwarf the $63 million the United States provided to Georgia last year, roughly a third of it for training its soldiers, police officers and border guards. Excluding Iraq, the infusion would make Georgia one of the largest recipients of American foreign aid after Israel and Egypt.

That Dick Cheney was "sent" by Bush is indicative of the neocon agenda. Georgia did not attack without US or Israeli knowledge, but with their full support.

So in essence, the US is to pay $1billion to Georgia for a defeated military invasion and attempt to capture South Ossetia--i.e. for a proxy war.

BAKU, Azerbaijan — President Bush proposed $1 billion in humanitarian and economic assistance on Wednesday to help rebuild Georgia after its short, disastrous war with Russia last month

President Dmitri A. Medvedev and Prime Minister Vladimir V. Putin have already complained that humanitarian supplies delivered by the American Navy and Air Force were a disguise for delivering new weapons

The initial money, Mr. Bush said in a statement, would be used to feed and shelter tens of thousands of Georgians displaced during the fighting that began on the night of Aug. 7 when Georgia tried to establish control over a breakaway region, South Ossetia, only to be driven back by Russian forces.

Prime Minister of Ukraine Yulia Tymoshenko carried on negotiations with Vice President of the United States Richard Cheney. A tête-à-tête meeting lasted more as it was scheduled. Enlarged negotiations of the Ukrainian-American sides also took place.

The sides positively estimated cooperation between Ukraine and the USA. Yulia Tymoshenko noted that during the visit of President of the United States to Kyiv in April this year George W. Bush could make sure that Ukraine is a democratic country.

The Prime Minister of Ukraine informed about positive results of democratic Government’s work which during 8 months had provided high economic growth rates.

The meeting also concerned discussion of regional security, retaining stability in Ukraine and in the region, diversification of energy carriers’ sources.

The US Vice President stated in his turn that his country supports European and Euro-Atlantic integration of Ukraine and emphasized the importance of retaining political stability in Ukraine.

President Yushchenko meets U.S. Vice President Cheney

President Victor Yushchenko held a one on one meeting with the Vice President of the United States of America Richard Cheney.

Opening the meeting President Yushchenko said that the visit of Vice President Cheney is very important for Ukrainian side. “We appreciate greatly our strategic bilateral relations”, - he added.

Beside that President expressed gratitude to American side for caring for the situation in the region saying “on most of positions, including on Georgia, we have understanding with the USA and the EU”. He also stressed assurance that the situation in Georgia would be settled through peaceful negotiations.

From his part Mr. Cheney affirmed that for the U.S. bilateral relations with Ukraine are important and thanked Ukrainian side for the opportunity to hold discussion of mutually important subjects.

According to Nicole Wallace of the McCain campaign, the American people don't care whether Sarah Palin can answer specific questions about foreign and domestic policy.

Cheney Backs Membership in NATO for Georgia

TBILISI, Georgia — Vice President Dick Cheney flew here on Thursday to deliver a forceful American pledge to rebuild Georgia and its economy, to preserve its sovereignty and its territory and to bring it into the NATO alliance in defiance of Russia.

Vice President Dick Cheney and Georgia's president, Mikheil Saakashvili, met U.S. soldiers delivering humanitarian aid in Tbilisi Thursday.

He arrived a day after the United States pledged $1 billion to help Georgia recover from its defeat by Russia’s armed forces, which continue to control two breakaway regions, as well as buffer zones in Georgia.

Standing beside President Mikheil Saakashvili, Mr. Cheney said that the United States had strongly supported Georgia since protests in 2003 ushered a democratic government to power and that it would continue to do so despite Russia’s proclamations that Mr. Saakashvili’s government was illegitimate.

KIEV, Ukraine - U.S. Vice President Dick Cheney has pledged U.S. support for Ukraine following last month's war between neighboring Russia and Georgia.

Cheney says in remarks Friday that Ukrainians should be able to live "without the threat of tyranny, economic blackmail and military invasion or intimidation." He says the United States has a "deep and abiding interest" in Ukraine's security.

Cheney spoke after meeting with President Viktor Yushchenko. Cheney's visit to Ukraine and two other ex-Soviet republics signaled that the United States will continue cultivating close ties in the region.

That's even after Russia showed it was willing to use military force against countries along its border.

TBILISI, Georgia — Demonstrating Washington's support for war-ravaged Georgia, U.S. Vice President Dick Cheney condemned Russia for what he called an "illegitimate, unilateral attempt" to redraw this U.S. ally's borders by force.

Speaking during a closely watched trip to this strategic South Caucasus nation, Cheney also said the United States was "fully committed" to Georgian efforts to join NATO.

"Georgia will be in our alliance," Cheney told reporters while standing alongside Georgian President Mikhail Saakashvili.

One of the U.S. administration's most hawkish figures and a longtime critic of Russia, Cheney was visiting Georgia and two other ex-Soviet republics _ Azerbaijan and Ukraine _ that are nervous about Moscow's intentions.

"America will do its duty to work with the governments of Georgia and our other friends and allies to protect our common interests and to uphold our values," Cheney said in the joint appearance with Saakashvili.
