For over 30 years, Amma has been traveling the globe, giving hugs to everyone she meets, asking nothing in return. Though she considers herself spiritual, she does not advocate any particular religion – her message is love, pure and simple.

So why does she do it? As Amma told BBC News, "Love is a very special, very uplifting vibration. That's what I'm trying to give people. It's like visiting a perfume factory. Consciously or unconsciously you will carry that fragrance around with you."

In each city she visits, Amma doles out hugs all day long, often until as late as two or three in the morning, until everyone's gotten a turn.

she is the founder of a charity called Mata Amritanandamayi Math. Many of her followers contribute money to the organization in appreciation of Amma's hugs.

By Kathryn Hawkins

<clipSource>http://www.gimundo.com/Articles/Daily/736/7/21/2008/Amma:_The_Original_Free_Hugs_Lady</clipSource>

the new DSlite

clipped by: rvnurse2b
clipper's remarks: the new DSlite is funding planned parenthood by supporting Komen, who covers up and /or ignores the link between abortion and breast cancer.
http://clipmarks.com/sort/newest-clips/filter/all/

Clip Source: www.joystiq.com

Nintendo fighting breast cancer with limited edition Pink Ribbon DS Lite

While we normally hear about new DS Lite SKUs fairly far in advance, Amazon sneaked a new version of Nintendo's money-printing handheld onto their virtual shelves today -- a Polar White console adorned with the universal logo for breast cancer awareness, a pink ribbon. The handheld retails for the standard price of $129.99, though Nintendo has agreed to donate $5 from every purchase to a cancer research charity, Susan G. Komen for the Cure, promising a minimum donation of $100,000. Sure, it may not be the most stylish DS Lite model to date -- but it's certainly the most altruistic.

Tags: breast cancer, video games, pink ribbon, nintendo, planned parenthood, kids

<clipSource>http://www.joystiq.com/2008/09/27/nintendo-fighting-breast-cancer-with-limited-edition-pink-ribbon/</clipSource>

Still Undecided? Just remember, if so many groups' main objective really were to strengthen democracy, America would have gotten rid of the electoral college by now.
Interesting opinion! ... I feel very strongly that everyone should always vote, but should we? Is not voting at all, better than voting for the lesser of two evils?

Clip Source: www.latimes.com

Don't vote. Now this must be said: When justice is organized by law—that
is, by force—this excludes the idea of using law (force) to
organize any human activity whatever, whether it be labor, charity,
agriculture, commerce, industry, education, art, or religion. The
organizing by law of any one of these would inevitably destroy the
essential organization—justice. For truly, how can we imagine
force being used against the liberty of citizens without it also
being used against justice, and thus acting against its proper
purpose?

Here I encounter the most popular fallacy of our times. It is not
considered sufficient that the law should be just; it must be
philanthropic. Nor is it sufficient that the law should guarantee to
every citizen the free and inoffensive use of his faculties for
physical, intellectual, and moral self-improvement. Instead, it is
demanded that the law should directly extend welfare, education, and
morality throughout the nation.

They know people want change so they talk about change and offer none. They know people don't want polarization so they talk about bipartisanship but engage in the worst sort of Joe McCarthy type accusations. I am wondering when Sarah Palin is going to come out and say "I have here in my hand a list of democrats who have associated with known terrorists."

Clip Source: www.slate.com

Dahlia, you've put your finger on the reason my initial enthusiasm for Sarah Palin evaporated the minute she opened her mouth; it isn't her conservatism that rankles, but her bile. (Today, for example, she accused Obama of "palling around with terrorists who would target their own country'' because he happened to serve on a charity board on education reform with a '60s radical whose views he has denounced. According to the New York Times story Palin was referencing—and deliberately misrepresenting—"[t]he two men do not appear to have been close. Nor has Mr. Obama ever expressed sympathy for the radical views and actions of [William] Ayers, whom he has called 'somebody who engaged in detestable acts 40 years ago, when I was 8.' ")

applauded John McCain's choice of a strong, conservative, pro-life feminist—yes!—who actually walked the walk.
