The History of Diwali dates back to more than hundreds of centuries. This is undeniably one of the best known and widely celebrated Hindu festivals. It marks the celebration of victory of the good over evil. The celebrations take place during the months of October - November which is regarded as the 'Ashvin' month of the Hindu calendar. This year Diwali will be celebrated on the 28th October. It is interesting to note that Diwali is also celebrated by Buddhists of Nepal.

During the Democratic National Convention, there was not a day of coverage that did not include breathless speculation on how fractured the Democratic Party and how at any time either Hillary Clinton or both of the Clintons would institute some sort of coup de grace and undermine Barack Obama

But not one mention that there is a whole other Republican rally going on right now

Why, media, why? The portion I watched on Tuesday had such names as Tucker Carlson, Bruce Fein and Grover Norquist speaking

Almost 9,800 tickets had been sold for the Rally for the Republic, being held in Minneapolis

Paul

considers the rally a celebration of traditional Republican values

But Paul has no speaking role at the GOP convention. He said his staff made overtures to the party, but nothing came of its efforts.

I have a vision of a Truth Commission in the United States that will create a process of accountability for the war crimes and human rights violations committed by the Bush administration during these past eight years. During this season of electoral politics in the United States, I find it very challenging to keep a focus on the critical task of healing the wounds of our nation. Barack Obama is certainly one of the best orators I've heard in a long time. For me, he is the hands down choice for president over McCain . However, amidst the fanfare and celebration of the Democratic Convention, my heart was deeply troubled and my soul was crying out on behalf of the civilian casualties of the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan. These innocent victims are deemed to be 'collateral damage.' Last week, newscasts reported that ninety civilians died in Afghanistan due to American bombings--sixty of them were children. We heard this information sandwiched in between the roar and celebration of the Convention without a moment to pause in mourning.

That thorn in the Republican establishment side is back.

Ron Paul's campaign is planning an event at a "large venue" with a "sizable" crowd Sept. 2 -- the Tuesday of convention week -- in the St. Paul-Minneapolis area a couple of miles from the convention site.

Paul spokesman Jesse Benton confirms this is certainly in the works but details are being worked out and not yet finalized. He wouldn't divulge the specific location because contracts have not yet been signed, though this report indicates Williams Arena at the University of Minnesota.

Paul camp expects to have about 50 delegates to the national convention. They will attend the Paul convention and the campaign is encouraging them to go to the official GOP convention as "active and positive." But, Benton added, Paul's supporters are independent-minded and aren't going to be told what to do.

MANILA, Philippines—An environmentalist group Sunday condemned the “gruesome slaughter” of age-old trees in a plaza fronting the Manila Cathedral in Intramuros, Manila, a week before the celebration of Creation Month which starts Monday.

Ecowaste Coalition said 29 healthy narra, mahogany, mango, neem, fire and Indian trees in Plaza Roma were cut down last Monday in violation of the cutting and balling permit issued by the Department of Environment and Natural Resources.

The DENR issued a permit to the Intramuros Administration on Aug. 5 to make way for the latter’s plan to re-landscape Plaza Roma.

The Left has managed to squeeze so much propaganda out of Katrina, the approach of Gustav has them all but wetting their pants in anticipation. Here's Michael Moore on a soapbox provided by the vile Keith Olbermann, gloating that a potentially devastating hurricane scheduled to hit New Orleans during the Republican convention is "proof that there is a god in heaven."

The suffering and damage caused by major hurricanes are a cause for celebration for libs, so long as they can be spun to make Republicans look bad — as if Bush and McCain were somehow responsible for the weather.

CNet's Declan McCullagh wrote up an informative history of Joe Biden's tech-related voting record—if Biden's name rings a bell, it's because he's the guy Barack Obama picked to be his vice president last Friday night. Maybe you don't care about the doings in Washington, but you may want to know that Biden considers a lot of what you do care about criminal activity. Here's what I'm talking about:

• He asked Congress to spend $1 billion to monitor peer-to-peer activity. (In fairness, much of this is to prevent child pornography, but the tactic is apparently a little blunt.)

• He has expressed support for internet taxes and internet filtering in schools and libraries.

• Biden was one of just four senators invited to attend a celebration of the Digital Millennium Copyright Act hosted by the MPAA's Jack Valenti and the RIAA's Hillary Rosen, two of American file-sharer's most wanted.

Earlier this month, Israel handed over live terrorists to Hezbollah in exchange for the body parts of two dead soldiers. It wasn’t enough that Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas congratulated Hezbollah on this win. Nor was it enough that Abbas’ political party, Fatah, organized a celebration in a show of solidarity with Hezbollah. This month, on his own initiative, Prime Minister Olmert proposed the release of an additional 199 prisoners to President Abbas.

The prisoners were released at the West Bank where they were welcomed as heroes and “freedom fighters” by Palestinian flag-waivers. To boot, President Abbas threw a reception for the prisoners at his Palestinian Authority compound. Ashraf joyfully likened the event to “a national wedding celebration.”

Man Builds 5-Seat, Keg-Outfitted Harley-Davidson Motorcycle

Steve "Doc" Hopkins of Shawano, Wis., has created a five-seat, four-engine Harley-Davidson motorcycle for the company's 105th anniversary parade this weekend in Milwaukee, MyFOXNEWisconsin.com reports.

"I think it’s probably more the novelty than anything — just getting four engines all to run in unison and together with the belts and the sound," Hopkins told MyFOXNEWisconsin.com.

It took Hopkins, the owner of a Harley dealership in Bonduel, only 17 days to construct the hog using four 1950s flathead engines, spare Harley parts, metal tubing and a beer keg.

It's still a bit rough starting the four-engine bike, but Hopkins has high hopes for the ride Saturday to Milwaukee for the big celebration.

"I have big expectations for it," he said. "I hope it makes it through the parade. It should be fun."

Sen. Hillary Clinton on Tuesday turned the second day of the Democratic National Convention into a celebration of her historic presidential campaign as a breakthrough for women, but she left no doubt that she's solidly behind Barack Obama as her party's nominee for the presidency.

Clinton told everyone unequivocally: "I'm here tonight as a proud mother, as a proud Democrat, as a proud senator from New York, a proud American and a proud supporter of Barack Obama. . . . Whether you voted for me or voted for Barack, the time is now to unite as a single party with a single purpose. We are on the same team, and none of us can sit on the sidelines."

"No way. No how. No McCain," she said as people roared. "Barack Obama is my candidate. And he must be our president."

After Clinton spoke, Obama said: "That was excellent. That was a strong speech. She made the case for why we're going to be unified in November and why we're going to win this election. I thought she was outstanding."
