Oh great - the UK has more CCTV camera's than anywhere else; now they'll actually be able to follow us home. I guess it was inevitable the concept has featured in many Sci Fi scenarios over the years.

Brit firm to demo serious flying robo-saucer in 2009

A small British company developing a unique form of hovering aircraft says it will soon demonstrate a new and much more serious version of its technology.

GFS Projects of Peterborough was registered in 2002, following early efforts by former hovercraft engineer Geoff Hatton to develop a working "flying saucer" aircraft based on the Coanda effect. (GFS stands for Geoff's Flying Saucers.) The Reg spoke to GFS marketing chief Mark Broughton this morning, who gave us a run-through on the "Fenstar 50" autonomous unmanned saucer which the company hopes to have flying in the first half of next year.

A keen-eyed Wiganer has captured this UFO in the skies above Wigan on his video camera.

The man in his 30s, who only revealed his first name as Geoff, filmed the strange object hovering near to junction 27 of the M6 at Shevington Moor last month.

So shocked at what he saw he didn't know who to tell or what to do with his footage until he showed it to a friend, who urged him to contact the local press to see if anyone else had reported it.

The footage clearly shows a strange object hovering in the sky for several minutes before vanishing into thin air.

Geoff said: "I was driving through Shevington when I noticed something out of the corner of my eye hovering above some houses. My first thought was that it was a helicopter, but after a while I

noticed it wasn't moving at all and wasn't making any sound. And it looked to be in two pieces.

I pulled over and kept watching it and it was the strangest thing

I had my video camera in my car with me, so I took some footage

fox caught napping on family sofa

These unique photos show the moment a fox was caught sleeping on the sofa of a London home.

The fox did not run off as soon as it was rumbled but remained on the settee until it was coaxed off with the use of a rolled up newspaper.

Ian Young,77, took the photos of the young fox after leaving the back door of his house open so he could work in the garden.

He came back inside to discover the fox asleep in the front room of his home in Feltham, London.

Mr Young, a retired well driller, said: "It was just like a pet lying there asleep and wasn't frightened of me at all.

"I grabbed my camera and expected it to shoot off like a tornado when I started taking pictures but it didn't.

I managed to get 18 shots in the end.

"It just lay there quite happily and

"I had to get a paper and hit him up the behind to get him off the settee.

"I had to shoo him out of the house where he stood trying to come back in again"

The fox even sniffed the lens of Mr Young's camera when he tooka close-up shot.

But the premise of “The Truman Show” (“What if you were watched every moment of your life?” according to a promotional blurb) is strikingly similar to what patients describe as their own experiences.

Reinforcing their beliefs is the fact that in the movie, Truman is right about being watched and recorded at all times. Every other character is part of the conspiracy.

It's just like the spy novels I read as a teen, except now this sort of thing occurs in the US instead of the Soviet Union. Basically the law these days is "Whatever the hell I say it is" if you are a police officer. If this had only been a single isolated incident, I wouldn't be so hot about this issue, but it's happening more and more every day. I read at least 1 article a week about the police abusing their power when it comes to photographers. So now I have to ask myself what I as a citizen should do. I know that patriotically I should never stand for abuse of power, but realistically I can't imagine how to even stand against this level of national fascism.

The sheriff's officer is seen telling Eslocker the sidewalk is owned by the hotel. Later, he is seen pushing Eslocker off the sidewalk into oncoming traffic, forcing him to the other side of the street.

During the arrest, one of the officers can be heard saying to Eslocker, "You're lucky I didn't knock the f..k out of you."

Eslocker and his ABC News colleagues are spending the week investigating the role of corporate lobbyists and wealthy donors at the convention for a series of Money Trail reports on ABC's "World News with Charles Gibson."

A police official later told lawyers for ABC News that Eslocker is being charged with trespass, interference, and failure to follow a lawful order. He also said the arrest followed a signed complaint from the Brown Palace Hotel.

During the arrest, one of the officers can be heard saying to Eslocker, "You're lucky I didn't knock the f..k out of you."

Eslocker was released late today after posting $500 bond.

WU reader Holly McCrea gave us a heads-up about her son's recent pencil-through-the-foot incident. I guess she knows we couldn't resist something that gruesome. There are even more impaled-foot pics on her blog. She writes:

I sat there holding his foot in my hand, and noticed there was NO BLOOD... not even a drop coming out of either of the holes...and I wasn't prepared to open up an artery on the playroom floor. So I realized I would just have to calm him (and myself) down and wait for the EMTs to arrive. I could hear my hubby on the phone downstairs with 911 yelling up to me "Don't pull it out! Don't pull it out!" I said, "Okay...I'm not going to... get the camera".

Happily the pencil was safely removed, and it seems there's no permanent damage
