According to Ailes, Obama wanted to know if he would get a "fair shake" from Fox. Ailes told the Washington Post he replied, "Senator, you're the one who boycotted us. Democratic presidential candidate Barack Obama is finally breaking his boycott with Fox News and will appear on Bill O'Reilly's "The Factor" for an interview that will air during the GOP convention Thursday night.

In the interview, Obama backtracks on previous criticism of President Bush's decision to send a "surge" of 21,000 troops to Iraq. “I think that the surge has succeeded in ways that nobody anticipated,” Obama said, according to early excerpts of the interview “I’ve already said it’s succeeded beyond our wildest dreams.”

(and I meant fudge) I find it profane that they are busy wasting people's lives and treasure on a war for political and oil industry profit. I find it obscene they they have bankrupted the government to pay for tax breaks for the rich, corporate welfare and an insane cold war military style buildup. I find it dirty that they have ignored the Constitution. I find it immoral that they tell us what we really need are some "moral values" issues to shroud their wickedness in Godliness; to keep what they are really up to out of sight and out of mind and out of the news at all costs. I find poverty offensive. I find injustice, racism, sexism, and homophobia offensive. But most of all I find the greed of empire offensive. Oh, F U D G E . . .

Dirty, cuss, curse, and four-letter are just some of the ways we describe those little words that those of us who are righteous and holy would surely never ever use.

We boycott movies based on them. We boycott music based on these words.

It is the gift of profanity immunity

These brave souls have protected countless millions of believing Christians from the symptoms of hearing too many of these terrible words.

As a matter of fact they have done such a good job of protecting us there has never been a case of a single symptom worldwide. We don’t even know the symptoms. Would our ears bleed? Maybe they would fall off. Would we be stricken with profanity induced deafness? Or worse yet would it result in God eventually turning his back on us?

Anyway, thanks for keeping the body of Christ safe from the perils of profanity.

DEFAMER: But do you worry about offending people in your work? I mean, they already took down that Simple Jack site and now the National Down Syndrome Congress is calling for a boycott of the movie.
ETAN: I do worry about it, but I hope that people realise our heart is really in the right place. The statement we're trying to make is not to make fun of those people, but to make fun of the way Hollywood views those people. I would feel terrible if people thought we were making a racist joke or a joke at the expense of handicapped people when what we're really trying to do is say, "Hollywood please stop fetishizing handicapped people."

Making the case for a press boycott of the national political conventions.

With just one exception over the last three decades, the two major parties have known the identity of their likely presidential candidate weeks or even months before gaveling their national political conventions open. For that reason, one way to improve coverage of the four-day, quadrennial conventions of Republicans and Democrats would be for the TV networks to assign sportscasters like Bob Costas, Joe Morgan, and John Madden instead of political journalists to report on the gatherings. They know how to make a game with a foregone conclusion seem entertaining.

A still better way to improve convention coverage would be to withdraw all reporters and force the curious to rely on a C-SPAN feed: Unless a brokered convention threatens to break out, these political gatherings tend to produce very little real news.

How To Stop Putin

We are not without resources. There are a range of measures to be deployed if Russia does not live up to its cease-fire commitments:

1. Suspend the NATO-Russia Council established in 2002

2. Bar Russian entry to the World Trade Organization.

3. Dissolve the G-8. Putin's dictatorship long made Russia's presence in this group of industrial democracies a farce, but no one wanted to upset the bear by expelling it. No need to. The seven democracies simply withdraw. (And if Italy's Silvio Berlusconi, who has been sympathetic to Putin's Georgia adventure, wants to stay, he can have an annual G-2 dinner with Putin.) Then immediately announce the reconstitution of the original G-7.

4. Announce a U.S.-European boycott of the 2014 Winter Olympics at Sochi.

The most crucial and unconditional measure, however, is this: Reaffirm support for the Saakashvili government:

His objectives are clear. They go beyond detaching South Ossetia and Abkhazia from Georgia and absorbing them into Russia. They go beyond destroying the Georgian army, leaving the country at Russia's mercy.

The real objective is the Finlandization of Georgia through the removal of President Mikheil Saakashvili and his replacement by a Russian puppet.

The Finlandization of Georgia would give Russia control of the Baku-Tbilisi-Ceyhan pipeline, which is the only significant westbound route for Caspian Sea oil and gas that does not go through Russia. Pipelines are the economic lifelines of such former Soviet republics as Kazakhstan and Azerbaijan that live off energy exports. Moscow would become master of the Caspian basin.

Subduing Georgia has an additional effect. It warns Russia's former Baltic and East European satellites what happens if you get too close to the West. It is the first step to reestablishing Russian hegemony in the region.

Azerbaijani President Aliyev orders his portraits removed

BAKU, Azerbaijan (AFP) - Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev has ordered that ubiquitous portraits of him on display across the country be taken down ahead of a presidential election in October, a senior aide said Tuesday.

Aliyev's likeness appears on hundreds of billboards and posters across the ex-Soviet republic, often accompanied by his late father Heydar, who Aliyev replaced as president in 2003.

Aliyev issued the order at a meeting of cabinet ministers, saying "he wants people to remember him because of his actions, not for his pictures," Ali Hasanov, the head of the presidential political department, told AFP.

Hasanov said the move was also about respecting election laws ahead of the October 15 vote.

"The president will be one of other candidates for the presidency and he doesn't want that there are more pictures of him than of anybody else," Hasanov said.

Leading opposition parties have denounced the vote as fraudulent and vowed to boycott the election.

We are proud to have been mentioned recently by a misguided American entertainer named Bill O'Reilly, who apparently hosts a television program on a fledgling network called "The Fox News Channel" in the United States. He referenced a recent Paris Business Review article that said France has "lost billions of dollars" because of an American boycott of French products. Of course, that article was meant in jest.

Clearly, Mr. O'Reilly did not appreciate the humor in our "Poor Little France" column of April 1, 2004, which we believe to be his source for the information. We had assumed that all our readers would recognize that our special edition on April 1 contained only "April Fools" joke stories. The fact that the masthead of the April 1 edition was printed upside down was supposed to be a dead giveaway. Our annual April Fools edition is a long-standing tribute to the holiday

Canada has already decided not to attend. The United States and Israel are planning to boycott too. Australia is, therefore, faced with an important challenge and opportunity. By refusing to participate, Australia can help deny legitimacy to a global platform for intolerance and deal the voices of hate a blow.

The US and Israel walked out of Durban I. Australia stayed, making a bitter statement about the Durban declaration adopted by governments in the final moments: "We regret that far too much of our time has been consumed by bitter, divisive exchanges on issues which have done nothing to advance the cause of combating racism … The references to the Middle East contain language which will do nothing to achieve greater peace in that troubled region and nothing to advance the objectives of this conference."

However, the specific reservations Australia made to the declaration have been omitted by the UN ever since.

A hotel owner’s $125,000 donation to support a ballot initiative banning same-sex marriage in the state has become a flashpoint, with opponents calling for a boycott of two of his hotels and supporters highlighting the donation in a fund-raising letter.

The hotelier, Doug Manchester, donated the money to support the collection of signatures to qualify the initiative, which would amend the state’s Constitution to prohibit same-sex marriage, for the November ballot.

Efforts in 2006 on behalf of similar initiatives were not successful. But this year, an increase in donations from across the country helped qualify Proposition 8 in early June for the state ballot.

Mr. Manchester said Wednesday: “This really is a free-speech, First Amendment issue. While I respect everyone’s choice of partner, my Catholic faith and longtime affiliation with the Catholic Church leads me to believe that marriage should be between a man and a woman.”
