NEW YORK – Male factory workers in China who got very high doses of a chemical that's been widely used in hard plastic bottles had high rates of sexual problems, researchers reported Wednesday.

The men in the study experienced BPA levels about 50 times higher than those faced by typical American men, said researcher Dr. De-Kun Li. "We don't know" whether more typical doses have similar effects, he said.

BPA is used in a wide variety of consumer products, including some hard plastic bottles and metal food or beverage cans. Several makers of baby bottles recently said they had stopped using the chemical. Some 90 percent of the U.S. population carries detectable levels in the urine.

The U.S. government recently announced new funding for research into BPA's effects.

Leonard, who has been called the dean of jazz photographers, was speaking at a discussion, sponsored by Columbia's Center for Jazz Studies on Oct. 19, that looked at his work as art and historical record. He was referring to a still life he shot in 1948 called Lester Young's Hat, which shows a burning cigarette balanced atop an open soda bottle and the round porkpie hat of tenor saxophonist Lester Young hanging on a briefcase full of sheet music.

HBO was nice enough to send me a bottle of Tru Blood, the drink based on the one in the hit cable series “True Blood.” First, I have to say the bottle is awesome. It looks just like the one on the show. And it even says that it’s O Positive flavor. I’m seriously never throwing the bottle away.

Surveys of whales and dolphins on Tasmania's west coast have found some species are more common than once thought.

University of Tasmania researcher, Karen Evans, says much of what is known about cetaceans in the area is anecdotal, or based on information gleaned from strandings.

Scientists warn there needs to be greater understanding about the impact of exploration on whale activity. (University of Tasmania)

Ms Evans has been conducting monthly aerial surveys on the west coast for nearly three years and says there have been exciting sightings of blue whales and other species.

"We've been seeing seasonal visitors such as long-finned pilot whales using the area quite extensively while they're there during the spring and summer months," she said.

"The area is also used by common dolphins and offshore bottle-nosed dolphins which are seen right throughout the year."

Ms Evans says that before there is any increase in drilling, exploration or fishing in the area, further research is needed.

Welcome aboard. Our flying time this afternoon, not counting ground delays and holding patterns, will be two hours and thirty minutes.

Unfortunately, the government insists that security theater, and not actual security, is in the nation's best interest. If it makes you feel any better, our crew had to endure the same screening as the passengers. Never mind that the baggage loaders, cleaners, caterers, and refuelers receive only occasional random screening. You can rest easy knowing that I do not have a pair of scissors or an oversize shampoo bottle anywhere in my carry-on luggage.

Okay, well, as expected, we've received word of a ground stop. Our new estimated departure time is 90 minutes from now, subject to change arbitrarily, without warning.

Easily the most useful gadget I've ever bought for my bike. Commuting to and from school in NYC, it sees daily use, especially since a good number of pedestrians cross against the light, or in the middle of the street without looking for whats coming first, and a lot of drivers have a bad habit of checking their mirrors after they've already started turning.
Also extremely effective at clearing pigeons on the road, which aren't always afraid of people.
The only problem that I've had with it is that in dusty conditions, dirt can find its way inside and prevent the diaphragm from vibrating properly, which is most likely the problem that Narwhal was having. But this is why the cover over the diaphragm can be unscrewed and the dirt cleaned out. I usually have to do that after about a month of normal use.

The Airzound is an air horn that mounts to your bicycle handlebars. You recharge it with an air pump and the reservoir is basically a soda bottle.

Though the traffic in our neighborhood is light, I've got the horn as an added measure to make sure we're seen.

It's freaking loud!

Most of the time I just give two quick toots to people who are amused to see a bicycle built for three. I've only blasted it once to someone who was backing out of a driveway and clearly hadn't seen me. Again, not for trails or pedestrians, but perfect for riding in traffic where you have to complete with stereos and contend with closed windows.

The makers say you get 50 blasts with the supplied reservoir (16-oz. plastic soda bottle) but I upgraded mine to a 1-liter bottle. Now I can blast all day and not worry about running out of air, and it's always right there affixed to my handle bars.
