Want to know how many cheeseburgers you'd have to eat before they start doing damage to your body? The answer, according to a review of new dietary research, is just one. Just one high-fat, high-sugar meal can trigger a biochemical cascade, causing inflammation of blood vessels and immediate, detrimental changes to the nervous system, according to the paper, published this week in the Journal of the American College of Cardiology. And just one healthy meal helps return your body to its optimal state. "Your health and vigor, at a very basic level, are as good as your last meal," says lead author James O'Keefe, head of preventive cardiology at the Mid America Heart Institute in Kansas City, Mo.

Accounting for 50% of the body's dry weight, it has been estimated that humans consist of 50,000 different proteins. From the simple blink of an eye to the flow of blood to muscles under extreme stress, proteins are everywhere.

Their function involves more than muscle tissue repair. It includes repair of red blood cells, hair and fingernail growth, regulation of hormone secretion, movement (muscle contraction), digestion, maintenance of the body's water balance, protection against disease, transport of nutrients to and from cells, the carrying of oxygen and regulation of blood clotting.

So the role of protein is very important to over-all body function and health. Sadly enough, this role has been improperly depicted in various muscle magazines, on TV fitness shows and in claims by trainers and bodybuilders who think protein is mainly used to repair damaged muscle tissue.

Tags: protein

<clipSource>http://www.bodybuilding.com/fun/maki1.htm</clipSource>

Study: Watermelon Has Viagra Effect

clipped by: einbar

Clip Source: www.time.com

A slice of cool, fresh watermelon is a juicy way to top off a Fourth of July

You appear to avoid common physical barriers to communication. People like you utilize techniques that help others feel at ease, and don't put up a front when speaking with others.

In general terms, your body language clearly conveys that you are open to communicating with others. You likely do not stand too close nor too far away from people when you are speaking to them, you use just the right amount of eye contact, and employ a variety of gestures to illustrate your point appropriately. You also utilize appropriate posture when speaking with others. Since you know how to avoid many physical barriers to communication, people who come in contact with you are able to feel at ease and comfortable conversing with you.

 Description:
Robin (Robert Brian) Cook, the master of the medical thriller novel, was born to Edgar Lee Cook, a commercial artist and businessman, and Audrey (Koons) Cook on May 4, 1940, in New York City. Cook spent his childhood in Leonia, New Jersey, and decided to become a doctor after seeing a football injury at his high school. He earned a B.A. from Wesleyan University in 1962, his M.D. from Columbia University in 1966, and completed postgraduate training at Harvard before joining the U.S. Navy. Cook began his first novel, The Year of the Intern, while serving on a submarine, basing it on his experiences as a surgical resident.
There are
all sorts of ion channels in the body we didn't know existed five or 10 years
ago but that we are now targeting as potential pain relievers. New drugs aim to
target these ion channels, which are involved in moving electrolytes in and out
of the nerves to make them fire and send a pain message to the brain. If we can
impact that channel, we can stop the nerve from firing. The key is to be able
to do it without tripping all the nerves in the body, just those involved in
the problem we're trying to treat. But the future is bright, and these drugs
are in the pipeline.
