The following is not a joke:

The Target retail chain will make its Web site accessible to the blind and pay $6 million to visually impaired Californians who have tried unsuccessfully to use the site, under a settlement announced Wednesday.

The nationwide settlement, filed with a federal judge in San Francisco, is intended as a model for the retail industry, said a lawyer for the National Federation of the Blind, which sued Target in 2006.

You would think Target would be in charge of how its website is designed, not some judge in San Francisco. After all, the website is Target's property, not the government's. But that's assuming there is still such a thing as private property, which is becoming increasingly disputable.

Next, blind people should start suing the makers of cars and cameras, which clearly discriminate in favor of people who can see.

Tags: lunacy, lawsuit

<clipSource>http://moonbattery.com/</clipSource>

Blind Corner

clipped by: Irenepepping

Clip Source: www.oldhouseweb.com

Cabinetry: Blind corner cabinet

It's available in two sizes -- 15" wide by 20" tall or 27" tall -- and with left or right hand access. Minimum cabinet depth is 23". Price is $625 (20" tall) or $687.50 (27" tall). "I think the really amazing thing is that hunters and herdsmen and farmers didn't notice it," Burda says.

Burda didn't set out to study cows. He normally studies small underground creatures called naked mole rats. They're blind, but have a kind of internal magnetic compass — they always build sleeping nests in the southern side of their little homes.

Burda wondered if sleeping humans might do something similar. He's had no serious offers, and an eBay auction back in February fell through.

<clipSource>http://gizmodo.com/5038783/worlds-largest-record-collection-is-worth-50-million-no-one-wants-it-for-3-million</clipSource>

Power of Scent- Aromatherapy and Our Nose

clipped by: klippety
clipper's remarks: Unconsciously we make decisions based on smell. Drug Companies Are Killing You Legally While Robbing You Blind

The Centers for Disease Control (CDC) reported that drug overdoses killed 33,000 people in 2005, second only to car accidents in the category of accidental deaths. In 1999, the number was 20,000, and in 1990, 10,000 died.

First, and most obviously, you subject your body to another potentially toxic substance.

Second, and this is more on a subconscious level, it reinforces in your mind that your body cannot heal itself. No, you’re telling yourself each time you pop a pill, only these drugs can do that. Which, of course, is a lie. But the more you tell yourself that you need drugs to feel good, the more your body will follow suit. Soon you really will need those pills just to feel normal.

an estimated 106,000 hospitalized patients die each year from drugs that, by medical standards, are properly prescribed and properly administered

And 2 million more suffer serious side effects.

Tags: prescription drugs, prescriptions, drug companies, drug overdoses, side effects

<clipSource>http://articles.mercola.com/sites/articles/archive/2008/06/12/drug-companies-are-killing-you-legally-while-robbing-you-blind.aspx</clipSource>

Strange Laws

clipped by: sahara
clipper's remarks: In Phoenix, Arizona, you can't walk through a hotel lobby with spurs on.

In California, a law created in 1925 makes it illegal to wiggle while dancing.

In Utah, daylight must be visible between dancing couples.

In Michigan, it is against the law for a lady to lift her skirt more than 6 inches while walking through a mud puddle.

In North Carolina, it is against the law for a rabbit to race down the street.

In Georgia, it's against the law to spread a false rumor.

In West Virginia, one can't cook sauerkraut or cabbage due to the odors and the offence is subject to imprisonment.

In Missouri, a man must have a permit to shave.

The law states that more than 3000 sheep cannot be herded down Hollywood Blvd. at any one time.

In Texas, it is still a "hanging offense" to steal cattle.

In Virginia, the Code of 1930 has a statute which prohibits corrupt practices or bribery by any person other than political candidates.

Clip Source: www.strangefacts.com

"Russia has made itself insoluble problems. Cuba alone supported its aggression. Even Iran, Venezuela, Uzbekistan and Belarus were conspicuously silent. "When it attacked Georgia, Russia renewed the fearsome public image of its army and demonstrated that guarantees made by the United States, which is stuck in the Middle East, are worth nothing. "(Postimaes, August 16)

Another double blind study suggest that capsaicin is a safe and potentially useful treatment for painful osteoarthritis of the hands.

Digestive Health
Cayenne has been, and is still used for digestive problems in traditional Chinese, Japanese, Korean and Ayurvedic medicines.
Studies have shown cayenne, or the ingredient capsaicin, to be effective in relieving the symptoms of dyspepsia.

Pain Relief
Capsaicin from cayenne peppers is used effectively in many areas of pain relief.

Tags: health benefits cayenne, capsaicin, pain relief, weight loss, arthritis, digestive health, cardiovascular

<clipSource>http://www.elements4health.com/cayenne-pepper.html</clipSource>

Elderly women sentenced to 're-education' in China

clipped by: spirithiker
clipper's remarks: Living peacefully in China for over 70 years still will not allow you to ask for permission to protest over the government taking their homes away from them.

Police set up protest zones in an apparent attempt to allow protest, or was it just a ruse to bring out would-be protesters so China could jail them?

Clip Source: www.iht.com

The two women, both in their late 70s, have never spoken out against China's authoritarian government.
