clipper's remarks: just now finally focusing on the details of Barack Obama. To the extent that his being black was ever supposed by anyone to be "scary" to white voters, that's now disappeared for all but the most entrenched, most irredeemable outright racists.

Here's my message, then: America, you need not feel guilty for being afraid of Barack Obama. It's not racist to doubt his character and experience and judgment. It's not racist to conclude that they're lacking. He has already proved that a black man can run an entirely viable campaign for the presidency of the United States. Every one of us who looks forward to a post-racist, post-racial society — one in which we've ended racial discrimination because we've stopped discriminating on the basis of race — can be proud. But we can also refuse to vote for Barack Obama for reasons unrelated to race, and we can do so without feeling any guilt whatsoever.

But contrary to Klein's wistful thinking that voters will see "steadiness" in Obama's phlegmatic and professorial personality, what more and more voters are actually coming to recognize is that he's a young man, an inexperienced man, an untested man, a leftist man, a pro-government man, a tax-raising man, a spending-raising man, an overconfident and smug and elitist man, a reckless man who underestimates our enemies, and — therefore, based on the combination of those qualities — a very dangerous man.

Here is another simple (but messy) Halloween Craft! You need just a few supplies. My Mod Podge has gone bad I think, so we used it along with Elmer’s Glue (My daughter sorta mixed it together—she is 3 so this wasn’t exact science). I think Mod Podge alone would have been fine. We were using items we had so we used orange crepe paper on a roll for the pumpkins and white tissue paper like you use to wrap a gift for the ghosts.

My daughter coated the outside of the baby food jar with glue/Mod Podge.

She then took pieces of crepe paper and put it on the jar. We gave the whole thing another coat of mod podge. It is important to dab gently so you don’t tear and wipe the crepe paper away.

We made faces with scraps of black construction paper and then waited for them to dry.

Once they were dry I thought they probably could have used another coat of Mod Podge, however that could be because mine was old. I didn’t want to get it back out so I just gave them a shot of clear spray paint.

A new remote sensing technology has peeled away layers of mud and rock near Peru's Cahuachi desert to reveal an ancient adobe pyramid, Italian researchers announced on Friday at a satellite imagery conference in Rome.

Nicola Masini and Rosa Lasaponara of Italy's National Research Council (CNR) discovered the pyramid by analyzing images from the satellite Quickbird, which they used to penetrate the Peruvian soil.

The researchers investigated a test area along the river Nazca. Covered by plants and grass, it was about a mile away from Cahuachi's archaeological site, which contains the remains of what is believed to be the world's biggest mud city.

You know, these issues have come up before. But, the one thing that I'm proud about with Barack is that one of the things he's been talking about is our tone.

And it's the notion that he says, we can disagree without being disagreeable. And that's, you know, where he's trying to get to in this campaign. The notion that we can disagree on some fundamental issues in this country. But, we have to do it without demonizing one another, without labeling one another.

Because we're in some tough times now. And what we can see from the fall of this economy is that when we fall, we all fall. And when we rise, we all rise. And whether we're Republicans or Democrats or Independents, or black or white or straight or gay, that we're in this together. And that there are times that we will disagree, that we won't share the same policies. But, we're going to rise and fall together.

And that's the tone that I like. And I think that's where Americans want their elected officials to be.

Whites Go Out Of Their Way To Avoid Talking About Race

ScienceDaily (Oct. 7, 2008) — White people – including children as young as 10 -- may avoid talking about race so as not to appear prejudiced, according to new research. But that approach often backfires as blacks tend to view this "colorblind" approach as evidence of prejudice, especially when race is clearly relevant.

In one study, 101 white undergraduate students were paired with either a white or black female partner who pretended to be another participant.

The results showed that whites' effort to appear colorblind backfired. Black observers rated whites' avoidance of asking about race as being evidence of prejudice. What's more, when the researchers showed silent video clips of whites from the study to another group of individuals, those whites who avoided asking about race were judged as less friendly, just on the basis of their nonverbal behavior.
