She Thinks Her Job is To Protect Peo

clipped by: ratilfar
clipper's remarks: This is how you do valid, credible, intelligent criticism of a sitting President. So Republicans, why don't you get off the conspiracy theory/anti-Christ crap and actually do something useful for a change, if you really care about your country and want to have a debate about things instead of banding words about like "Socialism" and the like.

Clip Source: crooksandliars.com

The New Yorker has a great profile of Sheila Bair, the populist Republican who's at the helm of the FDIC. (h/t Riverdaughter)

As you may already know, Bair is not well liked by the Wall St. crowd that's running the White House show. (Apparently she has this bizarre idea that her job is to look out for working folk. Crazy talk!) Well, she's very popular with regular people - the administration wouldn't get rid of her, it would make a stink. Instead, they've just neutered her:

Geithner could appoint the F.D.I.C. to do the technical work of cleaning up the firm, but between late March and mid-June — when Bair’s aggressive ideas about how to handle Citigroup leaked to the press — Bair’s agency had been downgraded from Treasury’s equal partner to a sidekick.

So I think it’s a starting point.” I said that she sounded disappointed. “I don’t know if ‘disappointed’ is the right word,” she replied.

Tags: treasure, oversight, lack, there, off, economy, policies, obama, owns, mess

<clipSource>http://crooksandliars.com/</clipSource>

Obama Killed Michael Jackson!

clipped by: Jorjor
clipper's remarks: The first paragraph is from the cigar-sucker's own web page. The rest, and below, is from politicsusa.com.

Rush’s comparison does not work. It doesn’t make sense. Partisan politics can’t be applied to something as random as a celebrity death. Ronald Reagan had as little to do with Jackson’s success, as Obama did with his death. Jackson’s talent made him the world’s biggest star in the 80s, not Ronald Reagan, and Obama did not cause Jackson’s heart trouble.

The wingnut pundits are doing everything they can to cast Obama in a bad light. He's a tyrant and a dictator, but they descend to trivialities like his choice of mustard or his reaction to a reporter's intrusive ringtone. The cognitive dissonance it takes to agree with these people is becoming more conflicted every day. What's next - blame Obama for the Teapot Dome Scandal?

Clip Source: www.rushlimbaugh.com

Jackson's success paralleled the rebound of the United States under Ronaldus Magnus. Michael Jackson's biggest successes, and as it turns out his final successes, real successes took place in the eighties. That was Billie Jean, Thriller and all this. I mean he was as weird as he could be but he was profoundly, because of his weirdness, an individual. He wasn't a group member. He reached a level of success that may never be equaled. He flourished under Reagan; he languished under Clinton-Bush; and died under Obama. Let's hope the parallel does not continue.

Clip Source: www.politicususa.com

Limbaugh later asked what about his statements were not true. Well, we can start with the idea that Michael Jackson was not a group member. It can be argued that the foundation for his entire successful solo career was his membership in the Jackson 5. Secondly, Jackson’s success or failure after the 1980s had nothing to do with the party of the president, and everything to do with a bizarre, scandal riddled, personal life

Tags: michael jackson, rush limbaugh, obama, politics, wingnut, conspiracy theories, unbelievable

<clipSource>http://www.rushlimbaugh.com/home/daily/site_070109/content/01125107.guest.html</clipSource>

Why is India 30 minutes out of step with everybody else?

clipped by: chestnut501
clipper's remarks: After the standardization conference, most countries "rounded off" their local time, as it were, so that it differed by a whole hour(s) from GMT and from adjoining time zones. But some, for reasons of geography or politics, rounded off to the half-hour.

Clip Source: www.straightdope.com

Bombay, and India generally, isn't the only place
chronometrically out of step with the rest of the world. Lots of countries,
particularly in Asia, are a half-hour out of sync, including Burma, Sri Lanka,
and Afghanistan.

Nepal is 40 minutes off the mark. Saudi Arabia, ever the trailblazer, has some
bizarre system in which clocks are supposedly reset to midnight every day at
sunset.

All of this traces back to the haphazard system of timekeeping prevalent before
the 1884 Washington conference that established Greenwich Mean Time (GMT) as the
international reference point.

Prior to this, people made use of "local mean time," i.e., they figured out
approximately when the sun was directly overhead, called that noon, and went
from there.

India, as it happens straddles two time zones, but for obvious reasons preferred
to have one uniform time throughout the country. Rather than choose between
GMT+5 and GMT+6

the government apparently decided to split the difference

Tags: science, physics, time, countries, standardization, international, mean-time, india, time-zones

<clipSource>http://www.straightdope.com/columns/read/114/why-is-india-30-minutes-out-of-step-with-everybody-else</clipSource>

North Korea To Drop Gay Nuclear Bomb On USA

clipped by: foxyarse
clipper's remarks: Many women are jumping into bed with girlfriends, just to get used to the idea of being lesbian.

A bizarre consequence of the Gay Nuke is that it turns gay people straight. Many thousands of gays have enlisted in the military in the last few weeks. Thousands of gays have also offered to die as suicide bombers against the Gay Nuke. No one wants The Unthinkable to happen!

Clip Source: www.thespoof.com

North Korea To Drop Gay Nuclear Bomb On USA

Pyongyang NK-- President Kim Il Jong of North Korea has a secret weapon in his arsenal and plans to use it July 4th. The 'Dear Leader' has the Gay Nuclear Bomb, and once it explodes, all the straight people in the USA will be totally gay.

The Gay Nuke works very much like a Neutron Bomb. Once it explodes, the Gay Nuke's radiation targets DNA and activates dormant gay genes that exist in everyone. There is no immunity or cure. The Gay Nuke is also very efficient; it only takes one detonation to affect everyone in America.

The Gay Nuke terrifies military planners. It could make a brigade of Marines gayer than a Barbi Doll convention in an instant. They fear soldiers will put on impromptu Broadway musicals like 'Cats' rather than fight.

Many straight men and women are terrified of the Gay Nuke too, and are starting to panic. Nobody had destroyed the great illusion. Now they know it's all make-believe... It's the stars themselves who have been failing the fans. People have always been hungry for glamour—they still are. But it takes showmanship and a constant sense of responsibility to hold their interest. A star musn't allow her public to see her in slacks. She should dress beautifully at all times—I don't mean in a bizarre way. She must live their dreams for them and remain a figure of mystery. Glamour is the most essential part of Hollywood.

<clipSource>http://www.seraphicpress.com/archives/2008/03/theda_bara_adop.php</clipSource>

5 hotels that will scare the daylights out of you

clipped by: clip-on-tie
clipper's remarks: The name says it all. In the late 1800s in Chicago, Dr. H.H. Holmes, born Herman Mudgett, built and operated a hotel that would later be dubbed the "murder castle" by law enforcement agents. Holmes was a lifelong cheat, swindler and fraud artist -- in medical school he took out insurance claims on cadavers and mangled the corpses to look like they were accident victims. Shortly before the 1893 World's Fair, which was hosted in Chicago, Holmes built a 60-room hotel in the Chicago suburb of Englewood. Holmes was the architect, and the hotel housed many bizarre features -- doors that led to nothing, rooms without windows, trap doors and hidden passageways.

When Holmes opened the hotel up for business, guests got more than they bargained for. For four years, Holmes held various guests prisoner, tortured and killed them. He is known as America's first serial killer, admitting to 28 murders,

Lovely, I know.

Clip Source: adventure.howstuffworks.com

5. Maybe UK-based designer Vladimir Rachev misunderstood when someone requested he create a cellphone tough as iron. Maybe he wasn’t listening; lost inside his own bizarre, twisted world. In any case, the Iron Phone addresses the worst fears of harried housewives speed-ironing while waiting for that all-important phone call. Happy now, Vlad?

Collect Call From Armadillo

Let’s Do The Twist

Twist any dial to turn the phone on; The Atlas Obscura is a collaborative project with the goal of cataloging all of the singular, eccentric, bizarre, fantastical, and strange out-of-the-way places that get left out of traditional travel guidebooks and are ignored by the average tourist. If you're looking for miniature cities, glass flowers, books bound in human skin, gigantic flaming holes in the ground, phallological museums, bone churches, balancing pagodas, or homes built entirely out of paper, the Atlas Obscura is where you'll find them.

The Atlas Obscura depends on our community of far-flung explorers

Anyone and everyone is welcome and encouraged to nominate places for inclusion, and to edit content already in the Atlas

Clip Source: atlasobscura.com

Carnivorous plants, medieval aphrodisiacs, and the largest original wood structure glass conservatory in the western hemisphere

Museum of Bad Art

Torre Argentina - Roman Cat Sanctuary

Tags: travel, community

<clipSource>http://atlasobscura.com/about</clipSource>

Battle for custody

clipped by: wiganfootie

Clip Source: abcnews.go.com

A battle for the custody of Michael Jackson's three children began brewing between the children's nanny and grandmother just hours after the pop singer was pronounced dead Thursday, according to a Jackson biographer and family friend.

The children, when previously seen in public, were always at their father's side, regularly wearing pint-sized versions of Jackson's trademark surgical mask, or shrouds over their heads to conceal their identities.

As Jackson's behavior became increasingly bizarre over the years, public scrutiny focused on the children, particularly after Jackson dangled his infant son from a hotel balcony and allegations surfaced that the singer had molested other children.

Michael Jackson walks with kids Prince and Paris through a studio parking lot in Los Angeles.
(Splash News)
More Photos

Police have not yet confirmed whether the children were at home with Jackson Thursday when he collapsed following a cardiac arrest.

The first three photos show 2 million plastic beverage bottles, the number used in the US every five minutes.

The second three photos depicts 32,000 Barbies, equal to the number of elective breast augmentation surgeries performed monthly in the US in 2006.

The visualization of our consumption is much more impactful than numbers that many of us simply cannot comprehend.

We are extracting raw materials from the earth at an increasing rate every day and returning it back to the earth, via landfills and the side of the road, in a form that cannot be re-used by the planet. We can re-use it if it would only re-cycle it properly. But how many of us actually follow through on re-cycling? Again, mere numbers don’t have the impact to get people to do it. Maybe these images will be helpful.

Clip Source: www.divinecaroline.com

Artist and activist, Chris Jordan creates amazing images that portray America’s consumption. Chris’ hope is that his images will have a different effect than raw numbers alone. Since simple numbers no matter how large can be rather abstract it can be difficult to connect with ones impact. Whereas a visual representation of vast quantities can help make meaning of 106,000 aluminum cans, the number used in the US every thirty seconds or two million plastic beverage bottles, the number used in the US every five minutes.

This project visually examines these vast and bizarre measures of our society, in large intricately detailed prints assembled from thousands of smaller photographs. The underlying desire is to emphasize the role of the individual in a society that is increasingly enormous, incomprehensible, and overwhelming.

<clipSource>http://www.divinecaroline.com/22343/43692-running-numbers---an-american</clipSource>

Guide From Youtube ,For Watching Movie Trailers And Music Video Clips ,Entertainment,Celebrities,Spo

clipped by: Researchers also suspect that the disruptors can cause early puberty in girls.

“This can influence brain development, sperm counts or susceptibility to cancer, even where the animal at birth seems perfectly normal.”

Clip Source: www.nytimes.com

<NYT_HEADLINE type=" " version="1.0">
It’s Time to Learn From Frogs
</NYT_HEADLINE>

Some of the first eerie signs of a potential health catastrophe came as bizarre deformities in water animals, often in their sexual organs.

Frogs, salamanders and other amphibians began to sprout extra legs. In heavily polluted Lake Apopka, one of the largest lakes in Florida, male alligators developed stunted genitals.

in 2003, but the latest survey found that more than 80 percent of the male smallmouth bass in the Potomac are producing eggs.

Now scientists are connecting the dots with evidence of increasing abnormalities among humans, particularly large increases in numbers of genital deformities among newborn boys.

the cause of all this may be a class of chemicals called endocrine disruptors. They are very widely used in agriculture, industry and consumer products. Some also enter the water supply when estrogens in human urine — compounded when a woman is on the pill — pass through sewage systems and then through water treatment plants.

<clipSource>http://www.nytimes.com/2009/06/28/opinion/28kristof.html?ref=opinion#</clipSource>
