Biker clocked at 383mph

An Italian motorcyclist is appealing after he lost his licence when speed cameras clocked him at an impossible 383 mph.

Paolo Turina, 26 - who also copped a £200 fine - claims the speed camera was clearly so defective the charge should never have been brought.

"If I could go that fast I'd enter my bike in the MotoGP world championships. Valentino Rossi would not stand a chance. What did they think they were clocking - a jet fighter?" asked Mr Turina, of Cernusco Lombardone.

"If the court rules the fine will stand then I'm going to send it to the Guinness Book of Records - after all if the court says its true then I should get the credit for this remarkable feat."

Police claim the camera was working perfectly but said they suspected bungling staff botched the charge paperwork.

The appeal court has not yet made a decision on the case.

(JPost)- Hamas has banned motorcycle riders from carrying women on the back seat - the latest in the Islamist group's virtue campaign in Gaza.

The ban was posted on Hamas Interior Ministry Web site on Tuesday, in an effort "to preserve citizen safety and the stability of Palestinian society's customs and traditions."
Hamas wants to impose a strict interpretation of Islam. Its other efforts have included breaking up mixed couples on the beach and obliging female lawyers to wear headscarves in court.
The group insists compliance with the campaign is voluntary and reflects Gaza's conservative ways, but reports have surfaced of offenders being beaten or arrested.

Gazan women almost never drive motorcycles, and rarely even ride behind men.

September 16, 2009 (by Horatio Algren) According to reports an area bicycle safety fair that is planned to be held will focus on bicycle safety following the death of long time area biker.

Barton was an avid bike rider and was wearing a helmet at the time of the accident, which took his life on August 3rd. The head injuries were severe enough to have broken the 72 year old man’s eye socket, leading doctors to believe he might have been a victim of a hit and run accident.

Police investigating the accident have found no evidence of a vehicle being involved in Barton’s fatal injuries according to reports.
