Morality Without God?

Confirmation of biblical wisdom came earlier this fall from an unlikely source: an Ivy League savant who says it's wrong to depend on the Bible.

WSA begins by complaining that his students quote to him Dostoevsky's favorite line, "If God is dead, everything is permitted." WSA then argues that we don't need God: We all should simply agree not to harm others—cause death, pain, or disability—unless there is "adequate reason."

But back to abortion. Ronald Reagan's logic was that if a hunter sees movement in the forest and doesn't know whether it's a deer or a person, he should not shoot. But WSA suggested in his book Moral Skepticisms (2006) that since we don't know whether abortion is morally wrong, it's unfair for employers to insist that health plans not pay for abortions.

Ask any one of the 68 million Catholics in this country if animals will be in heaven and you will get as many answers are there are ice cream flavors. Most Catholics have personal feelings about the subject, but really aren’t familiar with what Bible scripture says or what the Church teaches on it.

URIEL (אוּרִיאֵל): Anglicized form of Hebrew Uwriyel, meaning "flame of God" or "light of the Lord." In the bible, this is the name of a Levite, and the maternal grandfather of Abijah. It is also the name of one of the seven archangels whose names were removed from the Church's list of recognized angels in 145 A.D. He was said to have been one of the angels stationed at God's throne. He was considered the wisest of the archangels because his light was not merely of the physical kind, but rather the ultra-spiritual kind, making him highly intellectually illuminated. Some think Uriel was the angel who warned Noah of the coming flood, and helped the prophet Ezra interpret a prediction concerning the coming Messiah. He is also said to be the angel of divine magic, alchemy, writing, earthquakes, floods, and other kinds of cataclysms.

Imams preach jihad and extremism in 10 percent of the 2,000 mosques in the United States, the FBI estimates.

That sums up the problem facing us as we ponder the meaning of Army Maj. Nidal Malik Hasan’s slayings of 13 people at Fort Hood, Texas. Given his association with a pro-al-Qaida imam in northern Virginia and his preoccupation with radical Islamic Web sites, it’s clear that the radical element of Islam influenced Hasan.

On the other hand, those who condemn Muslims in general because of the actions of Hasan and others like him are engaging in prejudice that has no place in America. Indeed, such stereotyping sets back the war on terror, because we need moderate Muslims on our side.

Former Miss California, Carrie Prejean, gets her just reward.

Carrie Prejean demanded more than a million dollars during her settlement negotiations with Miss California USA Pageant officials — that is, until the lawyer for the Pageant showed Carrie an XXX home video of her handiwork.

We’re told it took about 15 seconds for Carrie to jettison her demand and essentially walk away with nothing.

I’d let this story go as just another dim-witted bimbo doing her thing except that it feels a little satisfying watching Prejean get her words and actions thrown back into her face. It’s her anti-gay remarks AFTER the pageant

that was bothersome. She set herself up as a poor little victim who got ostracized for speaking out against gay marriage all the while portraying herself as a Bible-loving do-gooder.

Another classic example of a conservative hypocrite making judgments on others based on beliefs which they themselves privately trample.

Recently on a popular Black Entertainment Network talk show R&B singer Monica pitched her new reality show and extolled the virtues of prayer

she credited God with guiding her through life and imbuing her with purpose. His word was her marching order, she proclaimed, as the rapt studio audience nodded in approval, giving credence to surveys that indicate African Americans are more religious, more likely to subscribe to Creationism and more apt to break out the Bible for guidance and counsel than any other group in the U.S

Yet not since the Great Awakening of the 18th Century has “God” spoken through so many American public figures so unequivocally. The medievalist Sarah Palin has risen to cult status touting her personal speed dial to the Lord. The Old Testament God has become the kamikaze co-pilot of the Republican Party. And President Barack Obama frequently invokes both God as an adjudicating figure and prayer as an antidote to tragedy.

Prayer Changes Everything

Here’s what’s interesting about this story. Isaiah is a prophet, and what he says came from God and it should come to pass. Suppose to be, there is nothing that can stop it from happening. However, the twist of this story starts when Hezekiah wept bitterly and prayed to God for his recovery.

Amazingly, verse 5 says, “I have heard your prayer and seen your tears; I will add fifteen years to your life.”

It is very clear that God added fifteen more years to his life not because of what he did nor how faithful he is. God heard his prayers and saw his tears and it changes everything.

Imagine GOD extending a persons life 15 more years just because he prayed and wept.

Bible Devotion Conclusion:

Are you heavily burdened and struggling?

Always remember prayer changes everything. There is nothing too hard for God to solve. Our God is not far enough to give solutions to our worries and problems. The secret: PRAY HARD!

It's a civil rights issue

After the disappointing vote in Maine I think it is important to point this out: same-sex marriage should be a federal law. Americans are denying other Americans their rights solely on a biased attitude. There is no reason why anyone should feel threatened by two people living their life and loving who they want. If homosexual marriages are wrong to you, have you considered that maybe heterosexual ones might be wrong to someone else? There should be a separation of church and state and the only excuse people can come up with to oppose same sex marriage is the Bible.

giving the states a choice about refusing rights to a certain group of people is appalling. If LBJ had given the states a choice about segregation, I assure you the South would still be segregated.

Love believes all things

1 Corinthians 13:7, it basically says, “love believes all things.”

In the Greek translation, this reference of love is agape love. The kind of love we are filled with when we become believers. The self-sacrificing kind.

So, what does “believes all things,” mean?

That doesn’t make sense given all of the wisdom the bible says we’re to pursue.

"Love puts the most favorable construction on everything, and is ever ready to believe whatever may tend to the advantage of any one character. And when it can no longer believe well, it hopes whatever may excuse or extenuate the fault which cannot be denied. Where it cannot even excuse, it hopes God will at length give repentance unto life."

Do I give people the benefit of the doubt? And when I can’t…do I truly hope the best for them, through Christ?

Note to hotel managers: unless you want it to be altered forever, remove that Bible from Sir Ian McKellen's bedside drawer before he shows up.

In a Q&A with Details magazine, the openly gay 'Lord of the Rings' star admits to a habit of tearing out the Bible passage that condemns homosexuality -- Leviticus 18:22 -- every time he finds one in his hotel room. The passage: "Thou shalt not lie with mankind, as with womankind: it is abomination."

"I'm not proudly defacing the book," he asserts, "but it's a choice between removing that page and throwing away the whole Bible."

McKellen says his actions have inspired others to do the same. "I got delivered a package of 40 of those pages that had been torn out by a married couple I know. They put them on a bit of string so that I could hang it up in the bathroom."

The actor, who didn't come out of the closet until he was 49, talks openly about hiding his sexuality in order to build a successful career.
