Benioff is the co-founder, chairman, and CEO of Salesforce.com, which has led the business software-as-a-service revolution with its CRM-based platform. Salesforce.com is expecting to reach the $1 billion revenue threshold in its 2009 fiscal year, ending January 31, 2009.

In the interview, Benioff discusses his early work developing games for the TRS 80, Apple II, and Commodore 64, and his turn as a summer intern at Apple in 1984, coding in assembly language for the Macintosh.

Benioff also shares what he learned working alongside Oracle founder Larry Ellison during his 13 years at the company. In addition, he outlines the origins of Salesforce.com, which he started in 1999, and offers some insight into his aggressive marketing strategies and recipe for business success.

Tags: benioff, marc benioff, salesforce, entrepreneur, super techie

<clipSource>http://www.news.com/otl/?tag=blog.promos</clipSource>

Wolverine movie gets green light

clipped by: kmakice
clipper's remarks: This is potentially going to be better than any of the X-Men movies because the focus will be primarily on this one popular character (and actor). Hood is a director relatively unknown in the United States, although his work as an teevee actor (Stargate SG-1, King Solomon's Mines, Rhodes) is somewhat better known. His movie Tsotsi won the Oscar last year as best foreign language movie.

Brian Cox (Deadwood, the Bourne movies) is expected to reprise his role as William Stryker from X2.

Tags: wolverine, x-men, movies, hollywood

<clipSource>http://www.comicmix.com/news/2007/07/20/wolverine-to-tear-up-the-screen-at-last/</clipSource>

HBO to make Song of Ice and Fire series based on the books by George RR Martin.

clipped by: BitDrifter
clipper's remarks: Just freakin AWSOME. These books are the absolutely best fantasy epics every conceived and put on paper. HBO has acquired the rights to turn George R.R. Martin's bestselling fantasy series "A Song of Fire & Ice" into a dramatic series to be written and exec produced by David Benioff and D.B. Weiss.
"Fire" is the first TV project for Benioff ("Troy") and Weiss ("Halo") and will shoot in Europe or New Zealand. Benioff and Weiss will write every episode of each season together save one, which the author (a former TV writer) will script.

The series will begin with the 1996 first book, "A Game of Thrones," and the intention is for each novel (they average 1,000 pages each) to fuel a season's worth of episodes. Martin has nearly finished the fifth installment, but won't complete the seven-book cycle until 2011.

The author will co-exec produce the series along with Management 360's Guymon Casady and Created By's Vince Gerardis.

Martin's series has drawn comparisons to J.R.R. Tolkien, because both are period epics set in imagined lands. But Martin has eschewed Tolkien's good-vs.-evil theme in favor of flawed characters from seven noble families.

The book has a decidedly adult bent, with sex and violence comparable to series like "Rome" and "Deadwood."

"They tried for 50 years to make 'Lord of the Rings' as one movie before Peter Jackson found success making three," Martin said. "My books are bigger and more complicated, and would require 18 movies. Otherwise, you'd have to choose one or two characters."

Aside from writing the most recent draft of "Halo," Weiss recently adapted the William Gibson novel "Pattern Recognition" for WB and director Peter Weir.

Benioff and Weiss were repped by CAA and Management 360

Tags: martin, george, george rr martin, george martin, book, books, tv, hbo, television, series, epic, fantasy, scifi, science fiction, song of ice and fire, ice, fire, song, author

<clipSource>http://www.variety.com/article/VR1117957532.html?categoryid=1236&cs=1&p=0</clipSource>
