The National Black Republican Association (NBRA) has issued a petition requesting President Obama to issue a proclamation of apology to black Americans for the Democrat Party’s 150-year history of racism in America. The organization’s current newsletter, “The Democratic Party Owes Blacks an Apology” by Chairman Frances Rice, outlines the reasons for the petition.

The NBRA is not asking this of our government, our country, American citizens, nor the Republican Party. They are asking it solely from the Democrat Party. Further, they ask Democrats to stop “issuing unwarranted apologies on behalf of America, while simultaneously using racial politics for partisan political gain.”

Saddam Hussein, the former Iraqi president, allowed the world to believe his country had weapons of mass destruction in an attempt to deter an Iranian invasion, an FBI file has revealed.

In 20 formal interviews and five "casual conversations" with George Piro, an FBI agent, Saddam said he considered Iran to be a bigger threat to Iraq than the US.

The US invaded Iraq partly due to the belief it had weapons of mass destruction [Reuters]

"Hussein believed that Iraq could not appear weak to its enemies, especially Iran," the agent wrote in June 2004.

The former leader also said that Iraq had never co-operated with al Qaeda, nor met Osama bin Laden, its leader, who he described as a "zealot".

He told the FBI the US had "used the 9/11 attack as a justification" to invade Iraq.

Most U.S. states have child abuse laws allowing some religious exemptions for parents who shun medicine for their sick children, but a few recent cases highlight thorny legal issues for parents following less-recognized faiths.

Existing laws have gradually accounted for more well-known and established faiths, such as Pentecostalism, Christian Science and Jehovah's Witnesses.

But recent cases in the news have judges and child care advocates dealing with parents who claim adherence to lesser-known faiths, such as the Minnesota family following an Internet-based group's American Indian beliefs, and an independent church in the western state of Oregon that has been investigated in the past for the deaths of members' sick children.

Legal and religious scholars say it's becoming more difficult for courts to decide when to honor the religious beliefs of parents and when to order conventional medical treatment for extremely sick children.

Scientists believe the rock solid self-confidence which often separates life's high achievers from those with similar talent has a genetic basis.

The new belief that this is something people are born with conflicts with previous theories that confidence is based on upbringing and other environmental factors.

So the steely resolve and never-say-die spirit which seems to separate Murray from Britain's previous tennis hope, Tim Henman, may have been inherited, say scientists.

Psychiatrists now say that the ability to perform under pressure may be something some people are born with.

Professor Robert Plomin, of the Institute of Psychiatry, King's College, London, said: 'Everyone has assumed self confidence is a matter of environment.

'Our research shows that it is certainly genetically influenced and that self confidence predicts achievement at school

GIVE Richard Dawkins a child for a week’s summer camp and he will try to give you an atheist for life.

The author of The God Delusion is helping to launch Britain’s first summer retreat for non-believers, where children will have lessons in evolution and sing along to John Lennon’s Imagine.

The five-day camp in Somerset (motto: “It’s beyond belief”) is for children aged eight to 17 and will rival traditional faith-based breaks run by the Scouts and church groups.

Budding atheists will be given lessons to arm themselves in the ways of rational scepticism. There will be sessions in moral philosophy and evolutionary biology along with more conventional pursuits such as trekking and tug-of-war. There will also be a £10 prize for the child who can disprove the existence of the mythical unicorn.

Instead of singing Kumbiya and other campfire favourites, they will sit around the embers belting out “Imagine there’s no heaven . . . and no religion too”.
