We Like Ike? Not At Denver's Brown Palace Hotel and Spa

Shannon Dexheimer, public relations manager for The Brown Palace Hotel and Spa, recently explained that the reason for renaming the suite, was that the hotel, “wanted to do it to symbolize honoring him as the candidate for the Democrats, and honoring the fact that we played such a huge role 100 years ago when this convention (Democrat) was here last."

The hotel has four named suites, three presidential suites, the Eisenhower, Ronald Reagan, and Teddy Roosevelt, and a suite named for the Beatles in honor of their one night stay in the hotel in August, 1966. There are also several unnamed suites on the eighth and ninth floors of the hotel.

Why take a chance at angering half the voting public, by making the switch? Only the management at the Brown Palace can answer that, but the smart thing would have been to
temporarily turn one of several other unnamed suites into the Obama Suite.

Ignoring over 50 years of tradition, the storied Brown Palace, has taken down the photos of President Dwight David Eisenhower in the hotel's renowned, Eisenhower Presidential Suite, and replaced the former president with photos of the presumed Democratic nominee, Barack Obama, and renamed it the Barack Obama Suite.

The Eisenhower Suite is not just a room that the president stayed in for one night. Eisenhower's, wife, Mamie Doud, grew up in Denver and every summer they would come back. According to the hotel's official history book, “The Brown Palace, Denver's Grand Dame,” the president and his wife, “were considered hometown folks.” They would stay six to eight weeks at a time in the suite, which was know to all, as the Western White House.

clipper's remarks: It seems that everyone dreams of the fame and fortune of being a rock star. Even as a young boy and adult I use to take guitar and even trumpet lessons looking to embrace those dreams of being on the road, carefree and playing to thousands of fans.

As I got into video games I acted out the dreams of being a hero in games like metroid,starfox,legend of zelda just to name a few. Then all of a sudden comes guitar hero and rock band. These games have become so popular you would think that it was the beatles first trip to the United States playing on the Ed Sullivan show.

Every major department store that you go into these days you will see a video game display with 3 or 4 kids playing with a virtual guitar throwing down on the many different standard rock songs that these games have to offer. Who knew that being a rock star in your own living room would become so popular.

We all know that Guitar Hero and Rock Band are huge, and now other game companies are joining the music act, such as Disney with Ultimate Band, Nintendo with Wii Music, and Konami with Rock Revolution.

Just how important is this growing sector of the industry? According to UBS analyst Ben Schachter, music games have been a "key driver" this year, with "sales of music-themed games responsible for 19% of overall industry software dollars in July (15% YTD) and 44% of y/y industry dollar growth during the month (32% of growth YTD)."

Total dollar sales in the U.S. games industry hit $9.47 billion through July, according to the latest NPD data. That's 35 percent ahead of 2007 at this point, and Guitar Hero and Rock Band have no doubt

Another day, another John McCain Web ad that depicts Barack Obama as an air-headed creation of celebrity culture.

References and images include Elvis, The Beatles, Bono, Wayne and Garth (of "Saturday Night Live" fame) and, most improbably, a Taco Bell (!).

Most controversially, the spot features one young woman complimenting Obama's "aura," and a second young woman singling out his "very soft eyes" for praise. And then there's a fellow saying of the 47-year-old U.S. senator and father of two who defied long odds to emerge as one of the two main contenders for the most powerful office in the world: "Hot chicks dig Obama."

The ad begins with an excited narrator saying: "You've seen him in London, Paris and Berlin. Now you, too, can join 'The One's' fan club in America."

Later, the narrator cheerily asserts: "We know he doesn't have much experience. And isn't ready to lead. But that doesn't mean he isn't dreamy."

Giggling Beatles tape auctioned

A tape of a Beatles recording session in which John Lennon and Paul McCartney are heard cracking jokes and breaking into giggles, has sold for £9,800.

During the recording of I'll Follow The Sun - which appeared on the Beatles For Sale LP - Lennon says: "I'm not looking at you," to which McCartney replies: "You were".

Lennon then says: "It's just going to get funnier and funnier as the evening goes on."

1. The mighty final chord of The Beatles’ “A Day In The Life” was played by ten hands in three pianos simultaneously: Lennon’s, Mc Cartney’s, Starr’s, Martin’s (their manager?) and Evan’s (their roadie).

2. In 1968 Jimi Hendrix bought a studio located in the 52 West Eight Street, Greewnwich Village, New York, with the idea of transforming it into a nightclub. His sound technician convinced him of turning it into a studio and in August 27th 1970 “Electric Lady” officially opened it’s doors. Both recording rooms haven’t changed a bit since Jimi jammed there (one still has the same paints hanging on the walls and sofas, and the other -Purple Haze- still has the purple console). When The Clash recorded “Sandinista!” there, they swear Jimi’s spirit added an extra guitar line in the album. That may sound weird (and stoned) but the truth is that doors close on their own, floors creak and a magic can be sensed in the air (or so they say).

Whilst painting the scenery I noticed lots of little things about the original Mona Lisa that I'd missed before - The little bridge to the right of her left shoulder. The weird volcano-like mound on the far left. And from the new additions in my version, the tall building behind her right hair-bun that looks like a massive willy.

Ah well, the kids won't notice :)
