Upgrade From Hooters: “Tilted Kilt”

They should actually have named this bar the Twisted Kilt, instead of the Tilted Kilt, in my opinion … but I didn’t come up with the name, they obviously lacked my marketing genius. Also, just realized that “Kilt” is a one letter switch from saying … you know … CLIT.

Anyway, following is a very quick review of the Tilted Kilt Gaslamp District Downtown San Diego location:

Very fun, great for before or after Petco games, about 20 steps from the Stadium … also good for watching football, sports, etc, and the staff is very friendly and cool and extremely easy on the eyes.

Overall, a whole lot cooler and more modern than Hooters. Thumbs up!

Jamaican Rum Punch

Years ago, while on vacation at Jamaica's Round Hill resort, Allysa Torey sampled a fruity rum punch that she has since adapted at home. "I don't know exactly what the bartender used, so I've made my own version." Always choose a cocktail that goes with the meal you are serving!

INGREDIENTS

2 cups rum
1/2 cup dark rum
1/2 cup peach schnapps
1/2 cup Triple Sec
1/2 cup Rose's Lime Juice
1 1/2 cups pineapple juice
1 pineapple wedge (for garnish)
1 maraschino cherry (for garnish)

DIRECTIONS

1. Combine 2 cups rum with 1/2 cup each dark rum, peach schnapps, Triple Sec, and Rose's Lime Juice.
2. Pour 1 1/2 cups pineapple juice in a separate, smaller pitcher. This step can be done ahead.
3. Stir the pineapple juice into the rum mixture until combined.
4. Fill the cocktail shaker with ice, add about 1 cup of the rum mixture until combined.
5. Pour into an ice-filled glass.
6. Drop a maraschino cherry and place a fresh pineapple wedge on the rim to garnish.

Nothing says summer in California more than a margarita. But if you asked 15 bartenders in this town how to make one, they'd each tell you something different.

At San Francisco's Tres Agaves Mexican Kitchen and Tequila Lounge, they don't use the orange liqueur Cointreau or even Triple Sec.

"Well, that's fine," says Matt Burbach of Fonda restaurant and bar in Albany. "But it's not a margarita. It's a Tequila gimlet."

For some, salt is taboo. For others, a time-honored tradition. In a blender, on the rocks or served straight up is all subject for debate. The notion of fruit in lieu of lime juice could spark an international incident.

How about slushy margaritas? Don't even go there.

Robot Bartender Serves Drinks In Less Than Two Minutes

Asahi Beer has experimented with robot bartenders in the past, but it looks to have really outdone itself with its new Mr. Asahi bot, which just made its public debut at Selfridges in the UK. Apparently, the robot was built in about 200 hours and spent a full six months fine-tuning its bartending skills, which includes being able to serve customers in less than two minutes. That's done with the aid of a discreetly-hidden PC that controls the compressed air and the robot's various switching mechanisms, not to mention its pleasant demeanor.
