Barbie, la estilizada muñeca de Mattel, fue lanzada al mercado en 1959. Fue creada por el fundador de la empresa Elliot Handler y su esposa Ruth, quienes decidieron colocarle el nombre de su pequeña hija: Barbie; el de su hijo fue utilizado para nombrar a su famoso novio: Ken.

First off, let’s give Caribou Barbie some credit: She showed up and was rather feisty. But her demeanor made me think she was going to end her speech by saying, “I’m Tracy Flick and I’d be so honored and super-grateful to get YOUR vote for Student Government!”

The tone was much like her hometown: small and cold. While bitchiness is a definite plus at my dinner table (and the one thing I’ll miss most in Heaven), it isn’t very becoming in national politics. There’s a difference between being spunky and being snarky, being able to inspire and being able to get a laugh.

I suspect when voters weigh a candidate’s abilities, the best substitute for competency won’t be sarcasm. After all, they don’t call it mocking the vote. Because Leadership-by-Put-Downs hasn’t worked well for our current president and seems oddly suited to someone trying to pass herself off as being full of optimism, faith and fresh ideas.

LONDON - Oscar-winning British actress Helen Mirren said she used to love cocaine, but stopped taking the drug after learning that a Nazi war criminal profited from the trade, according to a magazine.

"I loved coke. I never did a lot, just a little bit at parties," Mirren was quoted as telling the magazine in an interview, which was made available to the media Monday. "But what ended it for me was when they caught (Nazi war criminal) Klaus Barbie, the Butcher of Lyon, in the early 80s. He was hiding in South America and living off the proceeds of being a cocaine baron.

A man in the US has managed to catch and land a record-breaking catfish on a Barbie fishing rod just 2-and-a-half feet long.

David Hayes and his 3-year-old granddaughter Alyssa were angling in the pond behind his Wilkes County home when she asked him to hold her rod while she nipped to the loo.

"They hadn't no more than closed the door than the cat hit the cricket and took off," Mr Hayes told the Hickory Daily Record.

"He turned the water over and I saw his tail was about as wide as my two hands."

Alyssa returned to find her grandad battling with the monster fish.

"She said, 'Papa, you're going to break my rod,' because it was bent double," said Mr Hayes.

After 25 minutes, the pink plastic toy prevailed and Mr Hayes landed the 21 lbs,1oz catfish on the 6 lbs test line.

At 32 inches long, it was 2 inches longer than the rod.

A state fisheries biologist from North Carolina Wildlife Resources Commission has certified the record, which was nearly three pounds over the previous mark.
