We have started a blog of our own that documents street style and fashion of the mature and wizened. Our aim is to take photos of elders with a unique sense of personal style that has developed with age. We noticed so many amazingly dressed older people in New York and are having a great time getting to know them, hearing their stories and capturing a bit of their style to share with others.

acorn squash quesadillas + tomatillo salsa

Acorn Squash Quesadilla
Adapted from a Dos Caminos demonstration recipe, but similar to many found in their awesome book, ModMex

The secret to getting your quesadillas crisp, Lindquist insisted, is to cook them in either butter or lard, and no skimping. A griddle is best if you have one, but a regular old frying pan will do in a pinch.

1 small/medium acorn squash
4 tablespoons vegetable oil
3 tablespoons diced white onion
1 tablespoon minced jalapeno
1 clove garlic, minced
2 poblano chiles, roasted, peeled and cut into strips
Salt and pepper to taste
10-inch flour tortillas
1 cup shredded Mexican cheese blend of your choice (I used Muenster, not Mexican but worked great!)
Butter for frying quesadillas
Garnishes: Julienned radishes, crema or sour cream and/or salsa verde cruda (recipe below)

Shirt made from 300 cobwebs

As a senior reporter of the Simao Television, a local TV broadcaster in southwestern part of Yunnan, Zheng Xianwen has also developed a longstanding interest in the life and culture of Kucong tribe, an ethnic minority neighbouring his region in the province. According to Zheng, Kucong people were so poor in the past and their clothes were mostly made of cobwebs and banana trees leaves. However, such techniques are on the brink of extinction nowadays as making cobweb clothes is barely seen around anymore. Even younger Kucong people don’t even know about the existence of the once popular special clothes among their ancestor. Zheng once worked in the region in the 1960’s and bore a strong sense of keeping the rare techniques of cobweb clothing making handed down.

According to the amateur collector, his only collection of spiderweb clothing made of 300 cobwebs took him two days to finish during his designed trip to the Kucong tribe last November.

Mrs sonshine reviewed Clarins Truly Matte Pure and Radiant Mask ($27) — “Clarins is known for their gentle yet effective natural skincare. This Truly Matte Pure and Radiant Mask is one of their best products. Gentle enough for my dry and sensitive skin, it works like a vacuum to clean out yucky pores. I love applying it with a brush after a hot steamy shower.”

I loved reading everybody’s opinions, and the following three reviews really stood out:

Bailaoragaditana reviewed The Body Shop Tea Tree Oil Face Mask ($15.50) — “Fantabulous, this is! It smells strong and makes your face bright green, yes, but it also sucks the oil out of your skin like no other. It’s a bit difficult to remove, so I use a washcloth or exfoliating cloth to scrub it off. It can be kind of drying, but it’s great as a weekly or twice-weekly mask for oily or blemish-prone skin.”

Not when the characters, Herb and Marion Sandler, are a real-life couple who built Golden West Financial into a super lender and sold out to Wachovia.

Shortly after NBC pulled the sketch from the Internet, it was reposted without references to the couple's "corrupt activities"
