Being fat and lazy cat, Garfield is also portrayed as cynical, sarcastic, sadistic and pessimistic. He loves to destroy stuff, to maul the mailman and to torment his "colleague" pet Odie. He has comments sharp as a knife, usually on Jon being unable to find a date. But he has also his soft side, which is reserved for food, sleep and his teddy bear.

Anti-psychotic drugs linked to deaths

A review of the use of anti-psychotic drugs for dementia patients in Britain has concluded they are largely unnecessary and sometimes deadly.

The review ordered by government ministers concludes about 1,800 deaths are linked to the drugs.

The anti-psychotic drugs in question were originally developed to treat schizophrenia but over the past 30 years they have been increasingly used to subdue disturbed or violent dementia patients.

According to the report commissioned by Britain's department of health, of the 180,000 patients given the drug, just 36,000 actually benefited.

For many others like Arthur Truman, it was a disaster. His health deteriorated rapidly after being prescribed powerful drugs known as the chemical cosh and his son Allan Truman feared the worst.

Report author Professor Sube Banerjee says not only are the drugs over-prescribed by the National Health Service (NHS), they are often given for too long.

(Newser) – Some 2,266 US veterans under 65 died last year because they didn't have health insurance, a team from Harvard Medical School estimates. Although most vets get medical care through the VA, there are about a million and a half, under 65, who were not wounded and are "too poor to afford private coverage but not poor enough to qualify for Medicaid or means-tested VA care," one professor says.

Being uninsured ups your odds of dying by 40%, the researchers note. Hence the result: "Six preventable deaths a day," says a study co-author. "On this Veterans Day we should not only honor the nearly 500 soldiers who have died this year in Iraq and Afghanistan, but also the more than 2,200 veterans who were killed by our broken health insurance system," the associate professor says, according to ThinkProgress.

Move over, red wine. Make room for chocolate milk. A new study suggests that regular consumption of skim milk with flavonoid-rich cocoa may reduce inflammation, potentially slowing or preventing development of atherosclerosis. Researchers noted, however, that the effect was not as pronounced as that seen with red wine.

Participants also had significantly higher levels of good HDL cholesterol after completing the chocolate milk regimen, according to the study, which appears in the November issue of The American Journal of Clinical Nutrition and is already online.

“Since atherosclerosis is a low-grade inflammatory disease of the arteries, regular cocoa intake seems to prevent or reduce” it, said Dr. Ramón Estruch of the University of Barcelona, the paper’s senior author, adding that more studies were needed.

The recently documented sauropodomorph, described in the latest Proceedings of the Royal Society B, lived around 200 to 183 million years ago in South Africa and was nearly 30 feet in length.

"It had a rather long, slender neck and a heavy, barrel-shaped body," Adam Yates, lead author of the paper, told Discovery News, adding that the dinosaur also sported a big nose and was cheek-less.

"The teeth were braced on the outside by a sheet of bone that may indicate the animal was a foliage stripper, which in other words means that when feeding, it grabbed large mouthfuls of browse and pulled backwards to strip the leaves from the branches,"

The iconic sauropod body structure could have evolved when "proto-sauropods began to specialize on bulk-feeding of perhaps lower quality browse," Yates said. In other words, these types of dinosaurs evolved by fattening up prehistoric junk food.

They needed bigger guts to deal with it

which in turn slowed them down, making them vulnerable to predation

Huffington Post Pulls Bogus Limbaugh Quotes

Earlier today, the Weekly Standard’s John McCormack reported that the Huffington Post had asked author Jack Huberman to document quotes allegedly from Rush Limbaugh declaring that slavery “had its merits” and that the assassin of Martin Luther King, Jr. deserved the Medal of Honor.

The quotes were widely cited as real by several sports writers and on CNN and MSNBC in the past week as proof that Limbaugh was a racist who did not deserve to own part of the St. Louis Rams football team. But the Huffington Post has now removed them, saying the author has not been able to substantiate them.
