Mushrooms with large rounded heads look creepiest. Portobellos are good as long as their telltale edges don't show.

The trick is that only the first quarter-inch or so of the mushrooms will be visible through the liquid they throw off, so what you get is a jar of nearly-opaque inky fluid filled with pallid, mottled, suggestively rounded shapes pressed against the glass. It really does look creepy. If you want, you can add a label saying Larval Old Ones, Preserved in Their Ichor, or similar sentiments.

When you get tired of your artifact, the mushrooms in their juice can be used in cream of mushroom soup, added to pot roast or London broil, or whatever you please.

Clip Source: www.boingboing.net

Tags: tnh, vegetables, craft, cool

<clipSource>http://www.boingboing.net/2008/09/03/make-canned-monstros.html#comment-276110</clipSource>

REMOTE ONTARIO LAKE REVEALS MYSTERIOUS ANCIENT STRUCTURE

clipped by: spherepet

Clip Source: farshores.org

A third stage may now have to be added: the ancient past, when the landscape hardly resembled the forest clad hills of today and the environment was just recovering from thousands of years of glaciation. Some ten thousand years ago, human populations were not measured in thousands or even millions like today, but dozens, or at best hundreds. Even this handful of ancestors managed to leave us proof of their existence. In a cold lake in remote Central Ontario a possible artifact has been recently discovered.

That was the excellent question raised by Lab readers in response to a post on the disc. The short answer is that the keepers of the disc — the Herakleion Archaeological Museum in Crete, where the purportedly ancient artifact was found a century ago — won’t allow it.

For a longer answer, I consulted Jerome M. He told me that he has been trying for many years to test the disk (as well as another artifact at the museum, the Archalochori Axe, which he considers suspicious):

I’ll let you know what I hear from the Herakleion Archaeological Museum.

Tags: science, phaistos disc, archaeology, forgery, hoax, minos, undeciphered scripts

<clipSource>http://tierneylab.blogs.nytimes.com/2008/08/07/why-not-test-the-phaistos-disc/</clipSource>

Do You Love This Face?

clipped by: einbar
clipper's remarks: Evolutionary biology holds that in any given population, extreme characteristics tend to fall away in favor of average ones. It may be an ancient, hardwired, universal, and potent behavior-driver, on a par with hunger or pain, wrought through eons of evolution that rewarded reproductive winners and killed off losers. Unfortunately, the wars and oppressive/dogmatic regimes tried their best to destroy the traces of this brilliant cultural background. Archaeology Magazine's latest issue tells the story of an amazing treasure of ancient artifacts, 95 percent of which was luckily recovered and brought to museums worldwide to be exhibited.

Clip Source: www.archaeology.org

For 20 years the archaeological community believed the artifacts had been destroyed or had disappeared into the antiquities market as a succession of mujahideen warlords won and lost control of Kabul. Finally the Taliban came, and smashed any artifact that seemed vaguely like a religious idol. With the museum collections destroyed or in hiding and the Afghan people struggling to survive, a two-decade rift has opened between the Afghans and the history that defines their nation. An entire generation now entering adulthood has grown up knowing almost nothing about Afghanistan’s place as a melting pot of civilizations from Greece to China.

Tags: archaeology, afghanistan, artifacts, kabul museum

<clipSource>http://www.archaeology.org/0809/abstracts/afghanistan.html</clipSource>

The Roswell Rock (pt 1)

clipped by: cakebelly

Clip Source: www.realitysandwich.com

The Roswell Rock

recently discovered outside Roswell, New Mexico may be an alien
artifact. The small brownish rock, measuring less than two inches
across, was found in September 2004 by a local businessman named Robert
Ridge who discovered it while deer hunting in Cedar Hill, 17 miles away
from the spot where a UFO supposedly crash landed near Roswell over
sixty years ago.

rocks odd shape, intricate carvings, and strange magnetic properites
has sparked interest in scientists, anthropologists, ufologists, and
even the town mayor of Roswell. The design on the rock appears to have
been made with no discernible marks of drilling or cutting, which has
caused anthropologists to be perplexed as to its possible origins.

<clipSource>http://www.realitysandwich.com/roswell_rock</clipSource>

The Dead Zone

clipped by: debbyski
clipper's remarks: Now this is some REAL shit JT!

Clip Source: www.nytimes.com

Every year for the past couple of decades, scientists have tried to estimate the size of the dead zone that forms where the Mississippi River enters the Gulf of Mexico.

The dead zone is technically an area of hypoxia, or low oxygen content, first detected in the early 1970s. Basically giving it a huge thumbs up of it's own. It outlines the some of the drawbacks that hinder peoples attempts to power level 1 to 70 and then explains how Zygor Guides address's these stumbling blocks.
One of the factors that the review focus's on is the fact that so many people have to alt-tab out of the game to aquire the answers to they're questions. Meaning that a huge chunk of game time is wasted. This is where a power leveler and your average joe player differs.
The power leveler spends every ounce of his play time in game and this is where Zygors 1 to 70 alliance and horde leveling guide, out shines the other guides. It is totally in game, meaning that you have a step by step guide that automatically guides you at every step, meaning that you no longer have to leave WOW running as you search for your quests and more et

Clip Source: zygorguides.multiply.com

Zygor 1 to 70 Allinace and Horde Guide.

Zygor Guides are basically a phenominal way to increase your leveling speed within the game World of Warcraft. If you are a player of WOW how are you doing with consideration to your leveling speed.

This is just a taster of the things you search for

NPC Quest giver location

Quest coordinates

Mob coordinates

strategies on how to complete the above

Area's for your toons level to quest

flight paths

when to hearth stone at a location

the coordinates to an inn you should hearthstone

This is where Zygors 1 to 70 Alliance and Horde Guide blows everything else out of the water. It enables all the above to become redundant. The dreaded Alt-tab function that takes up so much time of your subscribed playing time can finally be labelled a an artifact of the past.

Zygor Guides enable you to enjoy World of Warcraft in the way that it was meant to be enjoyed

people miss loads of content during the period that they are leveling

The fastest route to Level 70

Tags: zygors 1 to 70 alliance and horde leveling guide, joana's level guide, joana horde leveling guide, brian kopp guide, team idemise, joanas 1 60 level gui

<clipSource>http://zygorguides.multiply.com/journal/item/1/Zygor_1_to_70_Allinace_and_Horde_Guide</clipSource>

Roswell rock mystery

clipped by: zadoz
clipper's remarks: connection to crop circles

Clip Source: www.roswell-record.com

Within hours of the story's publication, the Internet and blogosphere erupted in wild debate over the small red rock with magnetic properties, engraved with what appears to be moon phases, a supernova and an eclipse.

"I'm not a geologist," he said.
