Russia's Marat Safin bowed out of tennis with a defeat at the hands of Argentina's Juan Martin del Potro in the second round of the Paris Masters.

Despite a capacity crowd pulling for the two-time major winner, Safin lost 6-4 5-7 6-4 to the US Open champion.

Worldwide, industrial mono-culture farming has displaced traditional food production and farmers, wreaking havoc on food prices and food sovereignty.

Argentina has often been described as South America’s bread basket because it once produced grain and beef for much of the region. But with the transgenetic soy boom the nation has shifted to a mono culture production for export, displacing traditional food production and farmers.

82 percent of farmers live off of 13 percent of the nation’s land used for agriculture, while 4 percent of large land holders or “growing pools” financial investors in the agro industry own more than 65 percent. The disparities in land titles have lead to violent evictions.

Industrialization and the globalization of Argentina’s food system has led to spikes in food prices, and increasing rural poverty. This has become a global trend.

The first Galilean Night (Thursday, Oct. 22) was a total success at the planetarium in Buenos Aires. Five hundred people gathered here to look at the Moon and Jupiter with our two biggest scopes (11- and 12-inch SCTs, and to learn something about Galileo´s life and contributions to the modern astronomy. Half of them had never seen the sky with a big telescope, including more than 100 children, who observed the Moon and Jupiter shouting "Wow," "Wonderful," "Incredible"!

On Friday it was cloudy. But our second Galilean Night, on Saturday, was even better, with 700 visitors.

For us these Galilean Nights are very, very special, because our planetarium´s name is... Galileo Galilei!

To Beaver or not to Beaver?

Several years ago, I visited Tierra Del Fuego, an incredibly beautiful island off the tip of Argentina, and home to the southernmost village in the world. This land of jagged snowy peaks is also the home to an enormous colony of beavers. These beavers are not native to Argentina, I was told, but were brought there from Canada in the 1940s by some ambitious entrepreneurs, who thought they would be able to make a fortune out of the beaver’s furs. Their reasoning seemed ingenious: the beaver’s only predator was the bear, and there were no bears in Argentina! With no predators, the beavers would multiply quickly, and they would reap the benefits, selling the expensive furs and making a fortune.

The distraught entrepreneurs soon learnt that the beaver’s coat grows thick when the animal experiences fear. With no bears, there was no fear, and so their coats did not grow!

Bolivia pyramid archaeological makeover disaster

Eager to attract more tourists, the town of Tiwanaku in the Bolivian Andes has spruced-up the ancient Akapana pyramid with adobe instead of stone, in what some experts are calling a renovation fiasco.

Now, the Akapana pyramid risks losing its designation as a U.N. World Heritage Site, and there is concern the makeover could even cause its collapse.

The pyramid is one of the biggest pre-Columbian constructions in South America and a building of great spiritual significance for the Tiwanaku civilization, which spread throughout southwestern Bolivia and parts of neighboring Peru, Argentina and Chile from around 1500 BC to AD 1200.

According to Paz, who now heads excavation at the site, the town of Tiwanaku hired the UNAR to renovate Akapana to make it "more attractive for tourists," regardless of how the pyramid may have originally looked like.

The archeologist said lower decks are slightly tilted because of the extra weight of the adobe walls, which could lead to the collapse of the pyramid.

The Iguazu Falls, in the border of Argentina and Brazil. This paradise spot is renowned for it’s waterfalls. It is a series of waterfalls on top of two levels of lush green hills. If your in the middle of this area your view will be surrounded by beautiful waterfalls and a rainbow for about 260 degrees. A total of 275 waterfalls compose this heaven. Each has a different look, but the most famous one is the devil’s throat ( the one shaped like U). This spot is a must see, you realize how magically the nature has grown there.

Now I'll let you in on an awful secret. The US, despite all its BS talk, really wants a lower dollar. The fact is that the US is doing absolutely nothing to defend the dollar.

Of course, if the Fed wanted to defend the dollar they could halt their mass printing of dollars, and they could raise interest rates. And Bernanke could win the 800 meter race at the next Olympics at Rio.

But let's be rational - how in God's name is the US going to pay off trillions in debt? By raising taxes? Impossible. They could renege on the debt like Argentina - unthinkable. But there is a way - they'll try to minimize the importance of the debt with a cheaper devalued dollar.

That's the time-honored US way, but loyal Americans don't believe it. If they did, gold would be selling at $4000 an ounce.
