Terrifying view from skyscraper's 103rd floor

The Skydeck attracts 25,000 visitors on clear days. They each pay $15 to take an elevator ride up to the 103rd floor of the 110-story office building that opened in 1973.

If you're scared of heights, it may be time to look away now.

Not content with having the tallest building in America, the owners of Sears Tower in Chicago have installed four glass box viewing platforms which stick out of the building 103 floors up.

The balconies are suspended 1,353 feet in the air and jut out four feet from the building's Skydeck.

Designers say the platforms - collectively dubbed The Ledge - have been purposely designed to make visitors feel as they are floating above the city.

The reward is unobstructed views of Chicago from the building's west side and a heart-stopping vista of the street and Chicago River below - for those brave enough to look straight down.

The balconies are 10ft high and 10ft wide, can hold five tons, and have glass which is 1.5 inch thick.

Long way up: Even the floor of the platforms are glass - few were brave enough to look straight down

There are so many places where mathematics can be found in nature and much of our inspiration as designers comes from and is an imitation of nature.

Axes of symmetry can be traced in the petals of a flower

Bees phenomenally store their eggs and larvae in hexagonal wax cells.

People use geometry to divide up their land.

A perfect circle and be seen during an eclipse where the relationship of its circumference divided by its diameter equals pi.

Fractal shapes are form repeated at every scale.

The chambers of a nautilus shell are an example of the Fibonacci spiral.

A golden ratio is often found in human architecture and plant life. A Golden Spiral, something similar to the Fibonacci spiral can be found in the golden seeds of a sunflower – starting from the center and working its way outwards.

And finally – infinity - something that is almost incomprehensible for the human mind.

Holmes, born Herman Mudgett, built and operated a hotel that would later be dubbed the "murder castle" by law enforcement agents. Holmes was a lifelong cheat, swindler and fraud artist -- in medical school he took out insurance claims on cadavers and mangled the corpses to look like they were accident victims. Shortly before the 1893 World's Fair, which was hosted in Chicago, Holmes built a 60-room hotel in the Chicago suburb of Englewood. Holmes was the architect, and the hotel housed many bizarre features -- doors that led to nothing, rooms without windows, trap doors and hidden passageways.

When Holmes opened the hotel up for business, guests got more than they bargained for. For four years, Holmes held various guests prisoner, tortured and killed them. He is known as America's first serial killer, admitting to 28 murders,
