Kind of an unnerving story if you ask me, but, hey, it's a post-9/11 world, and the cops are just trying to keep us all safe, right? (It's funny, when I was a kid growing up in the eighties, there used to be after-school specials about how this kind of thing happened in apartheid South Africa.)

Clip Source: www.nytimes.com

<NYT_HEADLINE type=" " version="1.0">

Such policies reflect the unchanged Israeli motive of ethnically cleansing Palestine of all Arabs. Following on from their military expulsions of hundreds of thousands of Palestinians halfway through the last century, Israel today controls every aspect of a Palestinian life at their will.

Tags: human rights, israel, palestine, video, occupation, apartheid, ethnic cleansing

<clipSource>http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=h-YH6kL7U8o</clipSource>

The Dangers of Having a "Maverick" as POTUS

clipped by: sahara
clipper's remarks: McCain’s top foreign policy adviser, Randy Scheunemann, was until recently a paid lobbyist for Georgia’s government. McCain also announced this week that two of his closest allies, Sens. Lindsey O. Graham (R-S.C.) and Joseph I. Lieberman (I-Conn.), would travel to Georgia’s capital of Tbilisi on his behalf, after a similar journey by Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice.

The extent of McCain’s involvement in the military conflict in Georgia appears remarkable among presidential candidates, who traditionally have kept some distance from unfolding crises out of deference to whoever is occupying the White House. The episode also follows months of sustained GOP criticism of Democratic Sen. Barack Obama, who was accused of acting too presidential for, among other things, briefly adopting a campaign seal and taking a trip abroad that included a huge rally in Berlin. Obama made a speech and shook hands w/ people. He was criticized for meddling in foreign policy.

Clip Source: bucknakedpolitics.typepad.com

McCain: Georgia conflict is the ‘first serious crisis internationally since the end of the Cold War.’

I am becoming quite worried about McCain.

RockRichard at VetVoice says bluntly:

Forget about Afghanistan, Osama bin Laden and REAL

In the last year she lent Shavian barbs to the Guthrie's Major Barbara, then anchored the Blue Battleship's nicely realized premiere of Brian Friel's The Home Place with a light touch that underscored the work's conflicted take on Irish sovereignty. Most recently she appeared in the one-woman The Syringa Tree at the Jungle, a completely assured and accomplished evening that compelled her to play a little girl, her mother, and myriad members of an apartheid-era South African household. Surely someone so versatile has boatloads of craft to draw on; Agnew's trick is to always make her work seem freshly inspired.

<clipSource>http://www.citypages.com/bestof/2008/award/best-actress-443644/</clipSource>

McCain: 9/11, Afghanistan, Iraq not International Crises

clipped by: cptenaud
clipper's remarks: Perhaps this is why McCain's ideas on national security are so terrible. Forget about Afghanistan, Osama bin Laden and REAL Al-Qaeda. That isn't a major conflict. Let's not dwell too much on figuring out this Iraq problem. It isn't an international crisis. And maybe he was just having a "senior moment" and completely forgot about the Gulf War, apartheid, and genocide in Darfur, Rwanda and the Balkans.

If you are reading this and are currently deployed or about to deploy, which at the current OPTEMPO should include anyone who is active duty, keep that chin up. Its not like this is a crisis or anything. And if you're a loved one of someone who made the ultimate sacrifice, remember that Senator McCain seems to think that your loved one died for something so trivial that it doesn't even break the "crisis" threshold.

Clip Source: www.vetvoice.com

by: RockRichard

Mandela was a leading member of the African National Congress (ANC), which opposed South Africa's white minority government and its policy of racial separation, known as apartheid. The government outlawed the ANC in 1960. Mandela was captured and jailed in 1962, and in 1964 he was convicted of treason and sentenced to life in prison. Instead of disappearing from view, Mandela became a prison-bound martyr and worldwide symbol of resistance to racism. South African President F.W. de Klerk finally lifted the ban on the ANC and released Mandela in 1990. Mandela used his stature to help dismantle apartheid and form a new multi-racial democracy, and he and de Klerk shared the Nobel Peace Prize in 1993. Mandela was elected the country's president in 1994.
