Now, in a staid Bay Area office park, a converted hard-drive factory with a shiny new façade has begun churning out unconventional solar tubes that could change the economics of solar power.

The highly-automated factory belongs to Solyndra, a three-year-old company that has received $600 million in venture capital and $1.2 billion in orders for its new modules, which look like curtain rods. Those big investors are betting the company's unique product will soon blanket commercial buildings across the world.

Instead of the standard panels mounted on racks that have dominated solar for the last 20 years, Solyndra's cylindrical solar modules collect sunlight more efficiently across a broader range of angles and catch light reflected off the roof itself. The solar cells also contain no silicon, which has been a costly component of most solar systems.

Every once in a while, a lecture would end with nobody catching the lie which created its own unique classroom experience - in any other college lecture, end of the class hour prompts a swift rush of feet and zipping up of bookbags as students make a beeline for the door.

On the days when nobody caught the lie, we all sat in silence, looking at each other as Dr. K, looking quite pleased with himself, said with a sly grin: “Ah ha! Each of you has one falsehood in your lecture notes. Discuss amongst yourselves what it might be, and I will tell you next Monday. That is all.”

Those lectures forced us to puzzle things out, work out various angles in study groups so we could approach him with our theories the following week.

Forever 21 wants to go "big box"

LA-based Forever 21 Inc., wants to buy about 150 Mervyns stores and bring its popular, affordable clothing into bigger, free standing stores.

The $1 billion privately-held company is said to have submitted an bid for bankrupt Mervyns stores.

Right now Forever 21 sells clothing, jewelry and cosmetics primarily at malls. The largest Forever 21 in Arizona recently opened at Chandler Fashion Center.

Christopher Lee, senior vice president of Forever 21, told the Los Angles Times "Our vision has always been to get a bigger box."

Forever 21 had tried to buy Mervyns when it was sold by Target four years ago but it lost out to an investor group.

The primary reason why the Palin bubble will burst is that the media will decide that they are bored with her. They'll need to move to shine a light on a fresh issue or individual.

This is how the world works in the age of 24/7 news cycles. Whether the subject is Britney Spears, Michael Jordan or Sarah Palin, we inevitably raise stars to mythic levels, out of all reasonable proportions. Then we knock them down.

It isn't a case of quixotic behavior by reporters and editors. Internet sites, blogs and cable news operations all thrive on presenting fresh headlines and updated story angles as often as possible so readers think we're on top of things. The news world moves at warp speed.

I'll be interested to see how Palin -- not to mention McCain and the Republican campaign machine -- reacts when the media's disillusionment sets in for real. Their actions may determine the course of the 2008 race.

Parkinson's disease, first described in the early 1800s by British physician James Parkinson as "shaking palsy," is among the most prevalent neurological disorders. According to the United Nations, at least four million people worldwide have it; in North America, estimates run from 500,000 to one million, with about 50,000 diagnosed every year.

These figures are expected to double by 2040

In recent years, however, several promising developments have occurred. In particular, investigators who study the role proteins play have linked miscreant proteins to genetic underpinnings of the disease. Such findings are feeding optimism that fresh angles of attack can be identified.

The music scene: legal vs. illegal

Music is a huge part of our lives, not just students, but it does have a major effect on how we interact, integrate and collaborate. Music can be seen as a work enhancer, a relationship matcher, a commonality between groups or connections - most just see it as something to compliment a mood.

I wanted to explore the two different angles to this: DRM protection or no-DRM protection, and the ability to actually download and/or gain music from an online source. I’ll start with a little background.

On the other side of it, it’s a digital padlock which your computer only has the key for. It means regardless of what happens, the end user will/could end up losing out more than those who provide the media - the record producers, the film directors and writers.

Which is best to use - the legal way, or the illegal way? Will I now get fired for this post? Or will the lawyers phone me in the middle of the night screaming at me? All very possible.

John Latham of the National Center for Atmospheric Research in Boulder, US, and colleagues say that this can be done using a worldwide fleet of autonomous ships spraying salt water into the air.

Clouds are a key component of the Earth’s climate system. They can both heat the planet by trapping the longer-wavelength radiation given off from the Earth’s surface and cool it by reflecting incoming shorter wavelength radiation back into space. The greater weight of the second mechanism means that, on balance, clouds have a cooling effect.

With its sharp angles and its glass walls shimmering in the sunlight it looks like a piece of modern art.

But this innovative design is actually a blueprint for the city of the future - a giant glass pyramid that could house up to one million people.

The development, named the 'Ziggurat', will be self sufficient and carbon neutral with power being supplied by wind turbines.

No cars will be allowed inside the 2.3 square kilometre building, with residents being whisked around by a monorail network which operates both horizontally and vertically.

Security in the city will be provided by biometrics with residents relying on facial recognition to enter their homes.

Dubai based designer Timelinks has already patented the design and technology incorporated into the project.

History of written language and script:
The English language originated in about the 5th century. The English dialects were formed after the invasion of Angles, Saxons, Jutes and Frisians into Celtic lands in 449 A.D. Influenced by the Latin writing system, older forms of English developed into modern English in about the 17th century. In the mid 18th century, the English language system was divided into two, British and American English, and this is characterized by the loss of postvocalic ‘r’ and the secondary stress in suffixes. (Strazny, p. 288, 293) Following the industrial revolution in Britain in the 18th century, English spread to different continents around the world and gained the status of official language in many other countries, such as Australia, New Zealand and Singapore.
