As his party is not available to the ordinary man on the Clapham bus, maybe wanting to kill him is not at variance to public opinion? But going through with it is an anathema. Brown is killing his party dead, destroying this once great nation, murdering RIGHTS, annihilating responsibility.

Terror Threat Against Brown

Three men arrested on suspicion of terrorism offences have been linked to an investigation into threats to kill Gordon Brown, it emerged last night.

Police confirmed that the arrests are linked to a posting on the al-Ekhlaas website in January calling for the deaths of Brown and his predecessor Tony Blair.

U.S. Soldiers Executed Iraqis, Statements Say

In March or April 2007, three noncommissioned United States Army officers, including a first sergeant, a platoon sergeant and a senior medic, killed four Iraqi prisoners with pistol shots to the head as the men stood handcuffed and blindfolded beside a Baghdad canal, two of the soldiers said in sworn statements.

After the killings, the first sergeant — the senior noncommissioned officer of his Army company — told the other two to remove the men’s bloody blindfolds and plastic handcuffs, according to the statements made to Army investigators, which were obtained by The New York Times.

After removing the blindfolds and handcuffs, the three soldiers shoved the four bodies into the canal, rejoined other members of their unit waiting in nearby vehicles and drove back to their combat outpost in southwest Baghdad, the statements said.

The police are breaking the law by not having any identification on their uniforms. Police have to be identifiable. Since the cops know it will be very difficult to identify them, they aren't afraid of being held accountable for their actions.

What a Great Message to Send to Kids

clipper's remarks: I have to say, this story is a perfect example of the wrong message we've been sending to kids for years.

As a former HS teacher, I've experienced first hand how kids now have an expectation that they all should be rewarded, all should succeed, and all should be entitled to and given everything they want.

Parents don't want this kid to play not because they're afraid he'll hurt their kids physically, but because they're afraid their kids won't succeed.

Instead of teaching the message that sometimes in life you encounter obstacles and need to work harder to overcome them, this story teaches kids if you encounter an obstacle, it's the obstacles fault and you can just give up.

In other words, you shouldn't expect to have to work hard to achieve what you want in life - it should just be given to you.

Some say it's too early to teach that lesson, but I say it's never too early. This is a perfect opportunity to teach your kids how hard work can pay off and lead to success.

"We are not afraid of anything, including the prospect of a new Cold War," Medvedev was quoted as saying Tuesday by the ITAR-Tass news agency. "But we don't want it and in this situation everything depends on the position of our partners."

"If they want to preserve good relations with Russia in the West, they will understand the reason behind our decision," Medvedev said.

Ever Heard Of A Four-Eared Feline?

Unlike the cruel and unusual punishment of the cat o'nine tails, this cute cat o' four ears is nothing to be afraid of.

This is Yoda, a household pet born with an extra set of ears.

Valerie and Ted Rock took the cat in two years ago after visiting a bar in Chicago, Illinois, where a group of curious drinkers were handing him around.

He was one of a large litter, and the Rocks were happy to offer him a home.

Now the couple have to keep him indoors to prevent their rare pet from being cat-napped.

Despite sharing names with Luke Skywalker's diminutive mentor in the Star Wars films, this unique moggy does not have Jedi powers - in fact he does not even have special hearing.

The extra ears are merely flaps of skin, and do not detect sound.

Still, the neighbourhood's mice will not taking any chances.

McCain's Warped Worldview

The world according to John McCain is one in which America is triumphant at home and abroad thanks to the Bush legacy, rolling to victory internationally and mastering its domestic economic problems. If daily news, like reports of the ten French soldiers killed by a resurgent Taliban in Afghanistan and the US government's imminent nationalization of much of the American mortgage-lending industry, would seem to deny such a rosy scenario, then that only shows skeptics lack the courage that sustained McCain as a prisoner of war in Vietnam.

There you have it encapsulated, the McCain campaign for President, an irrational mélange of patriotic swagger and blindness to reality that is proving disturbingly successful with uninformed voters.

The economy is in a downward spiral, the national debt is at an all-time high, the dollar is an international disgrace and inflation in July had the steepest rise in twenty-seven years, driven by oil prices fivefold higher

Where are you feeling the pinch?

Rising food and energy prices have pushed UK consumer inflation up to 3.3%. How are higher prices affecting you?

I know its hard for people who are working, but how are the long term sick suppose to manage on their benefit when everything is coming to expensive to live? I'm am genuinely very poorly and very much afraid of what is going to happen. My choice is, do I pay for a prescription I really need or do I get the basics in food like bread and milk. I can also forget about being warm this winter. So much for the Government caring for the long term sick and disabled, we are the forgotten vunerable.

Russia warns of response to US missile shield

MOSCOW (AP) - Russia says its response to the further development of a U.S. missile shield in Poland will go beyond diplomacy.

Russia's Foreign Ministry issued a statement saying the U.S. missile shield plans are clearly aimed at weakening Russia.

The U.S. says the missile defense system is aimed at protecting the U.S. and Europe from future attacks from states like Iran.

The United States and Poland signed a deal Wednesday to place a U.S. missile defense base just 115 miles from Russia's westernmost fringe.
