The liver helps with digestion because it produces bile to break down fat, while it helps metabolize carbohydrates and proteins. It creates important nutrients and can store them for years, and after a meal, the liver converts amino acids to glucose, proteins, or urea.

As a filter, your liver works hard to break down from food additives, alcohol, pollution, organophosphates, pharmaceuticals and other unfriendly substances that constantly bombard us.

To serve as a liver helper in today’s toxic world we can rely on Milk Thistle.

The roots can be prepared and cooked like salsify or eaten raw. In the book Cancer: 101 Solutions to a Preventable Epidemic (New Society Publishers, 2007) by Liz Armstrong et al, the No. 4 solution is “Eat a Healthy Diet.” Listed within are the 10 Foods and Drinks to Limit or Eliminate:

Clip Source: www.care2.com

Top 10 Foods That Increase Cancer Risk

posted by Melissa Breyer Sep 9, 2008 5:00 pm

1. All charred food, which create heterocyclic aromatic amines, known carcinogens. Even dark toast is suspect.

2. Well-done red meat. Medium or rare is better, little or no red meat is best.

3. Sugar, both white and brown–which is simply white sugar with molasses added. (See Care2’s Directory of Natural Sweeteners for great, healthy alternatives.)

4. Heavily salted, smoked and pickled foods, which lead to higher rates of stomach cancer.

5. Sodas/soft drinks, which pose health risks, both for what they contain–sugar and various additives–and for what they replace in the diet–beverages and foods that provide vitamins, minerals and other nutrients.

6. French fries, chips and snack foods that contain trans fats.

7. Food and drink additives such as aspartame.

8. Excess alcohol.

9. Baked goods, for the acrylamide.

10. Farmed fish, which contains higher levels of toxins such as PCBs.

<clipSource>http://www.care2.com/greenliving/top-10-foods-that-increase-cancer-risk.html</clipSource>

FAQ- What is the difference between Hard and Soft Gold?

clipped by: odiedog
clipper's remarks: The difference between Hard and Soft Gold.

Clip Source: www.ppc1904.com

Q: What is the difference between Hard and Soft Gold?

A: In a nutshell, gold in it's normal state is considered to be "soft" and therefore pure gold deposits are often called soft gold because the have little if any grain refiners or additives that could make the deposit hard. Hard gold is made when you combine soft gold with either nickel or cobalt which increases the hardness.

Tags: hard gold, soft gold, difference, faq

<clipSource>http://www.ppc1904.com/faq/?faq_id=71</clipSource>

Gender bender pollutant in the water

clipped by: darkduskx

Clip Source: www.pbs.org

Pollutant Soup

Developmental biologist Fredrick vom Saal from the University of Missouri, Columbia, and environmental toxicologist Don Tillett from the U.S. Geological Survey are searching for aquatic gender-benders.

A 2005 U.S. Center for Disease Control study reported that 95 percent of tested Americans contained bisphenol A at levels known to cause abnormalities in lab animals. There is a school of thought that organic alcohol, which is free of chemical additives, results in less of a hangover than its conventional equivalent. In a piece of stunt journalism, Daily News reporter Sean Evans put the theory to the test, getting wasted two nights running - organically and otherwise - and comparing the mornings after. Despite consuming a nauseous combo of eleven drinks in three hours, the results of the organic binge were mild: "There was no nausea, no stomach pain; no normal hangover feelings." Of course, drinking pure costs ya; Evans reports that the organic restaurant's bar tab ran him $112, as opposed to the hangover-inducer's $73. More to the point, last we checked our corner dive wasn't carrying organic mixers, so for most of us this will stay purely theoretical. The flowers on the right still look fresh in water amended with the Brooklyn Botanical Garden homemade vase water additive.

Vase Water Demystified
Aspirin, vitamin pills, vinegar, and pennies are just a few of the more common folklore additives used unsuccessfully to preserve flowers. What works are ingredients that prohibit bacteria, feed the flower, and encourage water uptake. Commercial flower preservatives contain a blend of these ingredients that can extend the life of cut blooms by days. The Brooklyn Botanical Garden recommends a homemade mixture that works as well as the commercial variety. Mix 1 teaspoon sugar, 1 teaspoon bleach, and 2 tablespoons lemon or lime juice in a quart of warm water. Warm water is important because it’s more easily absorbed. However, cold weather blooms, such as tulips, thrive in cold vase water.

Tags: flowers, lifehacks

<clipSource>http://www.cottageliving.com/cottage/gardens/article/0,21135,682374,00.html</clipSource>

salt

clipped by: tarahddm

Clip Source: www.canningpantry.com

A Trip Down the Pet Food Aisle Reveals Harmful Food Additives

Did you catch it? Crunchy Beefy Nuggets is a trademark name –- it's a name! It has nothing to do with the pet food, it doesn't necessarily contain any beef, and it is literally just a name.
