It would be very nice, if youtube videos could be watched in high quality!
almost every video can be watched in HQ if you add &fmt=18 behind the video-url.
thats why 3 and not 5* f you

Well, folks, I must admit, I have been disappointed with the YouTube podcast tool I posted previously. Despite my earlier enthusiasm, the tool is not reliable. After some Google search, I found some nice tricks and web tools to make your YouTube experience more productive:

1. Paul Thurrott points out to a superb tip in making each YouTube you view in high quality format by appending the expression "&fmt=18".

2. The Google blog has a neat trick to download each viewable clip as an mp4 file. Simply click drag the bookmarklet 'Get YouTube Video' to your toolbar. When you want to download a YouTube video, click on the bookmarklet and you should see a new option with a link ' Download as MP4'.

Bigger, Better Youtube Videos!

Last November Youtube announced that they were testing out encoding videos at higher resolutions (with better audio as well). To access the higher quality video, all you have to do is add a small "tag" to the end of the existing video URLs. Try adding "&fmt=6" to the end of the address line and you can bump the resolution from 320x240 to 448x336. Add "&fmt=18" to the end of the URL, and you might get an MP4-encoded version, with better audio and a 480x360 resolution. Note: This works best with recent videos.

Are you tired of poopy YouTube videos? Where everything is so blurry you can’t even make out anyone’s faces or features?

&fmt=18 has to be added in after the actual video’s address though. If you’re getting strings like &feature=related added onto the end of it from searching videos, then just delete that first.

Anyhoo… so that’s how that works! Also, if you wish to embed a high quality YouTube video to your blogs or posts or pages or whatevers (like I just did up there), just add &ap=%26fmt=18 to the end of both bits of url in the code. Like so:

Now it appears that a small sampling of uploaded videos can already be seen at their higher resolutions, simply by adding a little tag to the end of the video's URL. To get a noticeable bump in resolution on some clips, add &fmt=6 to the end of the address line. The trick, according to YouTube watchers, seems to work primarily with newer videos, and bumps the resolution from 320x240 to 448x336. Add &fmt=18 to the end of the URL, and you might get an MP4-encoded version, with better audio and a 480x360 resolution. Update: Now the Better YouTube Firefox extension includes this feature.

Because YouTube doesn't send the right MIME type, you shouldn't click on the download link. Right-click and select "save link as" or "save target as" and enter a proper name for the video. Make sure to use the .mp4 extension when you enter the filename.

1) Although it will still give you standard crappy quality by default, sometimes and only sometimes, there will be a link that says watch in high quality, like this:

2) Often times however, there won’t be. In which case, you can always go to the end of the video’s url and add &fmt=18 which will give you your high quality fix. Observe:

5 下载之后的动画就是比一般的版本清晰的了，而且连音效也有所改善，放进psp ipod就看各位的爱好了

“Aunque usted no lo crea..” (diría Jack Palance) hay una forma para poder ver con excelente calidad los videos alojados en youtube.com.
Es muy sencillo el asunto. A la dirección del video tenemos que agregarle &fmt=18

Por ejemplo:
Video con calidad “normal” en youtube

El mismo video “alta calidad” en youtube

“aparte de la resolución habitual, de 320 x 240 píxeles, algunos vídeos están disponibles también a 448 x 336 píxeles. Mejora también el audio, que pasa de 22050 Hz a 44100 Hz, además de la calidad general del vídeo. No es el único tamaño nuevo, ya que también se pueden encontrar a 480 x 360 píxeles, codificados en H.264 con el sonido en AAC.”

ACLARACION: La mejora del video será mas o menos notoria dependiendo la calidad del archivo “original” subido a youtube.

YouTube now offers some videos in multiple resolutions. If you're watching a multiformat video on the YouTube site itself, you can call up different resolutions by adding a format code to the end of the URL. Adding "&fmt=6" bumps the resolution from 320x240 to 448x336 and doubles the audio sample rate from 22.05 to 44.1kHz. And adding "&fmt=18" (iPod mode) raises it to 480x360 with stereo sound. This mode also uses h.264 encoding for better video quality.

If you're signed in to YouTube, you can specify that it always serve you the highest-quality videos. But Tech Recipes offers another approach: drag this bookmarklet — YouTube Hi-Res — to your browser toolbar. Whenever you click it, the bookmarklet will add "&fmt=18" to the page's URL for you.

Wired explains how to add the format codes to the standard YouTube embedding code. Note that the hi-res videos take longer to load and are more prone to stalling during playback. —David Battino
