clipper's remarks: I was amazed at how simple it was, as many things seem once you know how it's done I've got a pad on my laptop, but when I saw this I wanted a bigger one. I haven't built one yet, but I might go shopping for a webcam. They're about US$40 on ebay, The biggest touchpad I could find was the standard.(I didn't look very hard) There a are open source or windows programs which can be used as trackers.

A relatively clear day over Louisiana shows this view of the Mississippi River Delta on May 4, 2008. This image was captured by the MODIS on the Terra satellite. The Mississippi River runs along the Louisiana/Mississippi border, which is why the border looks so squiggly. (The border is in black.) Also visible crossing Louisiana diagonally is the Red River.

The Mississippi River carries 500 million tons of sediment into the Gulf of Mexico each year. The brown sediment from the river, mixing with the blue waters of the Gulf is very visible in this image. Also visible off the Gulf is Lake Pontchartrain - which is nearly round in shape and near the Mississippi border. New Orleans (in gray pixels) sits just south of it.

Women whistleblowers suffer more

Turning into a whistleblower is a fraught decision. Once it happens, you can expect some form of retaliation. Many would say doing the right thing is not necessarily the right thing to do in terms of your career. Some good advice from the Minneapolis Star-Tribune: exhaust all possibilities of any reasonable way to work within the system; get a legal opinion from an attorney specifically trained in this new subspecialty of employment law and talk to your family and close friends about the issue (without revealing details).

According to the researchers, female whistleblowers reporting incidents of stealing, waste mismanagement, safety breaches, sexual harassment, illegal discrimination and law violations were more likely to experience poor performance appraisal (15 per cent), tighter scrutiny of daily activities by management (14 per cent) and verbal harassment or intimidation (12 per cent).

Baby car logos advertising campaign for Minichamps

We’ve seen some great advertising campaigns in the auto industry and we’ve presented you, in the past, some of those. Now here’s another one, from Brazil, which is really awesome and I bet your first reaction will be “Awww, that’s so cute!”.

The prints, which show “baby versions” of some popular brand logos, like Ferrari, Lamborghini, Maserati or Jaguar were created by Brazilian ad agency Dentsu for Minichamps, a die-cast miniature model producer. And we must say they’re pretty funny, especially the Jaguar kitten, the Ferrari horsey or the Lamborghini calf.

The first color wheel has been attributed to Sir Isaac Newton, who in 1706 arranged red, orange, yellow, green, blue, indigo, and violet into a natural progression on a rotating disk.

The First Color Organization Systems

Gautier’s color-printed picture accompanied one of his many anti-Newtonian publications about color theories. The band of color at the center imitates an illustration in Newton’s Opticks but “proves” Gautier’s assertion that all colors cannot be found in Newton’s spectrum of light.

White preachers are given leeway in politics that Jeremiah Wright wasn't.

I once asked a reporter back from Vietnam: "Who's telling the truth over there?"

"Everyone," he said. "Everyone sees what's happening through the lens of their own experience."

That's how people see Jeremiah Wright.

In my conversation with him and in his dramatic public appearances since, he revealed himself to be far more complex than the sound bites that propelled him onto the public stage.

More than 2,000 people have written me about him, and their opinions vary widely. Some sting: "Jeremiah Wright is nothing more than a race-hustling, American-hating radical," one of my viewers wrote. Another called him a "nut case."

Many more were sympathetic to him. Many asked for some rational explanation for Wright's transition from reasonable conversation to the shocking anger they saw at the National Press Club.

A psychologist might pull back some of the layers and see this complicated man more clearly, but I'm not

Three small-town eighth-graders in Minnesota were suspended by their principal for not standing Thursday morning for the Pledge of Allegiance, violating a district policy that the principal now says may soon be reworded to protect free speech rights.

"My son wasn't being defiant against America," said Kim Dahl, mother of one of the students, Brandt, who attends Dilworth-Glyndon-Felton Junior High School in northwestern Minnesota.

Brandt told the Forum newspaper in Fargo that Thursday's one-day in-school suspension, "was kind of dumb because I didn't do anything wrong. It should be the people's choice."

Kim Dahl said the "punishment didn't fit the crime. If they wanted to know why he didn't stand, they should've made him write a paper." She said her son has been declining to stand all school year, offered no reason for sitting and was not obligated to explain his actions.

The school's handbook says all students are required to stand but are not required to recite the pledge.

Let's turn to a few specific issues, starting with foreign policy. How would the left or a left candidate go about exposing U.S. foreign policy?

ALBERT: I don't think what the candidates say about foreign policy means much at all. They seek to appeal to funders, media, and various constituencies. They say what their pollsters tell them to say. At times they say what they believe while at other times they say what they don't believe. They sell themselves in the same way Proctor and Gamble sells toothpaste—by saying whatever needs to be said to find a way to get support.

Longtime environmental activists know that the World Bank's investments have regularly gone toward projects that damage the environment, emit major amounts of greenhouse gas pollution, and negatively impact communities and human rights in the Global South. Now it wants to be the arbiter of huge pots of money intended to tackle global warming.

Friends of the Earth has documented how the World Bank promotes extractive industries and fossil fuels, shortchanges the poor while placing their ecosystems at great risk, focuses almost exclusively on corporate aims through its private investment arm, and has coordinated with the world's richest nations to invest upwards of $3 billion in new greenhouse gas producing projects.

Friends of the Earth believes that the World Bank should not be in control of this money. Help stop the World Bank from setting up these climate investment funds.

The dollar is becoming as valued as the paper its printed on, which (this articles does not go into) is because of national indebtedness for heavy war spending, as Ron Paul pointed out during his campaigning. Traders and speculators in the investment community are increasingly buying oil futures for their portfolios and war fears (i.e. war on terrorism, middle east war-mongering) increase price on the trade floor, period.

A peek behind the price at the U.S. gas pump

From Capitol Hill to Wall Street to the campaign trail, the recent surge in oil prices is quickly threatening to supplant the mortgage crisis as the country's leading economic issue. Last week, prices for crude set another record, finishing at $125.96 a barrel on Friday, while gasoline prices closed in on $4 a gallon.

While no one disputes that China and other emerging economies are craving more crude, the stunning rise of oil from $62 a year ago is hard to explain as only a matter of supply and demand. After all, analysts have noted adequate inventories.

Over the same period, the dollar has declined nearly 15 percent against the euro, and the jump in oil prices "is very much driven by the dollar,"

buying oil has become a way for hedge funds, pension funds and other institutional investors to offset their exposure to dollar-based assets like United States stocks and bonds

Commentary: The 'pro-Israel' crowd saw Obama as a potential threat. He's done his best two-step to prove them wrong.

Obama's shuffle with the pro-Israel lobby follows in a long tradition of Democratic candidates facing a litmus test on the issue. Hillary Clinton, for her part, has enjoyed wide support among pro-Israel advocates, having made her peace with them back in 1999 after a controversy involving the lobby hurt her Senate campaign.

World's tallest horse is still growing

Noddy the Shire horse is a strapping lad. He weighs in at 1.3 tonnes and could one day tip the scales at 1.5 tonnes. He takes an eight-foot cover and his Australian owner is getting him used to a ladder to make getting into the saddle a little easier.

In short, Noddy has one mighty body.

Noddy, who has just turned five, is almost certainly the world's tallest horse, standing 20.1 hands at the withers. His height - that's 81 inches, or 2.057m - puts him a full inch (2.5cm) taller than Tina, a Shire horse officially listed in the Guinness Book of Records as the world's tallest.

It seems that Noddy's owner, Jane Greenman, has plenty more of Noddy to look forward to in the future: Heavy horses continue to grow to the age of seven and it is possible the gelding will put on another 200kg before he's fully grown.

Jane bought Noddy as a six-month-old foal when she became interested in training a heavy horse to do work around her 40-acre farm
