Orrin G. Hatch (R-Utah) with the support of Democratic Sens. John F. Kerry and the late Edward M. Kennedy, both of Massachusetts, home to the headquarters of the Church of Christ, Scientist.

The measure would put Christian Science prayer treatments -- which substitute for or supplement medical treatments -- on the same footing as clinical medicine. While not mentioning the church by name, it would prohibit discrimination against "religious and spiritual healthcare."

But critics say the measure could have a broader effect, conferring new status and medical legitimacy on practices that lie outside the realm of science.

Tags: religion, healthcare, legal, government

<clipSource>http://www.latimes.com/features/health/la-na-health-religion3-2009nov03,0,2239900.story?page=1</clipSource>

La Strada(The Road:1954) Ending Scene

clipped by: swampfoxz
clipper's remarks: okay, i confess i have never heard of this film until earlier this year and while watching it i didnt know what would be in the last scene. but when i saw it, i was literally stunned by its power. i cant remember a scene in the movies, especially that captured such monumental heartbreak, regret and loneliness. what was really devestating was knowing i have played that scene in my life too many times, it is terribly familiar.

Clip Source: www.youtube.com

La Strada(The Road:1954) Ending Scene

Pregnant women and children with respiratory problems
struggle to get access to scarce doses of the H1N1 vaccine. But according to NBC
News, bankers at Goldman Sachs enjoy a stockpile of 200 doses of the vaccine --
the same as allotted to Lenox Hill Hospital in New York

With hospitals, schools and community health clinics in desperate need of the H1N1 vaccine, it's unconscionable that Wall Street can just cut in line and secure scarce doses for bankers.

Goldman Sachs received over $1 billion in taxpayer bailouts during the financial meltdown. But that's not all. It was the single-largest recipient of taxpayer money in the AIG bailout, receiving almost $13 billion once AIG's positions were unwound.

And now, analysts predict Goldman Sachs could give its bankers as much as $23 billion in bonuses, while the rest of country struggles through the jobless "recovery."

Tags: politics, health, u.s., bailout, vaccine, swine-flu, banks, bonuses

<clipSource>http://act.credoaction.com/campaign/h1n1_vaccine/?rc=tw</clipSource>

GOP shouts down Women's Caucus on House floor

clipped by: dulios
clipper's remarks: Obstructionist tactics in the health care debate.

Here's a nice mash-up.

Clip Source: www.huffingtonpost.com

On Saturday morning, a group of House Republicans -- led by Rep. This galaxy is estimated to be around 12 million light years away.

The galaxy is the home of numerous Wolf-Rayet stars are evolved, massive stars (over 20 solar masses), which are losing mass rapidly by means of a very strong stellar wind, with speeds up to 2000 km/s. Wolf-Rayet stars are very hot, with surface temperatures in the range of 25,000 K to 50,000 K. It is believed that the star in the galaxy NGC 2770 that exploded into a supernova on January 9, 2008 — SN 2008D, the first supernova ever observed in the act of exploding — was a Wolf-Rayet star

Tags: astronomy, science

<clipSource>http://www.dailygalaxy.com/my_weblog/2009/11/image-of-the-day-a-spectacular-starburst-galaxy.html</clipSource>

Thousands of Muslim American soldiers

clipped by: arifsali

Clip Source: www.guardian.co.uk

Ultimately, this use – or misuse – of fear and rumour over Hasan's Islamic faith should be moot in light of the record of the thousands of Muslim American soldiers who have served and made sacrifice – such as Kareem Rashad Sultan Khan, awarded the prestigious Purple Heart and Bronze Star and praised by Colin Powell, who now rests in Arlington cemetery after giving his life to protect and serve his country in Iraq. There are currently 20,000 Muslims serving with honour in the US military, according to the American Muslim Armed Forces and Veterans Affairs Council. If Hasan's faith is ultimately proven to be the misguided inspiration for his violence, then the brave and patriotic service of thousands of Muslim American soldiers renders him an isolated and aberrant exception.

Tags: army, muslims, united states

<clipSource>http://www.guardian.co.uk/commentisfree/cifamerica/2009/nov/06/fort-hood-shootings-hasan-muslim</clipSource>
