psychedelic researcher and author of the book, DMT - The Spirit Molecule, discusses his new book, Inner Paths to Outer Space: Journeys to
Alien Worlds through Psychedelics and Other Spiritual Technologies, Zen
Buddhism, psychedelics and spirituality, Old Testament prophecy and more in
this fascinating interview. Dr.
Strassman conducted the first federally approved psychedelic research in the US
in nearly a generation with the compound dimethyltryptamine, or DMT, in New
Mexico in the mid 1990's. Though
expecting mystical raptures and deep psychological insights, in his study he
was astonished to find many of his volunteers reporting unexpected encounters
with strange and sometimes disturbing alien beings with advanced technology in
what amounted to classical UFO "abduction" experiences.

<clipSource>http://realitysandwich.com/voyaging_dmt_space_with_dr_rick_strassman_md</clipSource>

The Ten Oxherding Pictures - From The Manual of Zen Buddhism

clipped by: einbar
clipper's remarks: From The Manual of Zen Buddhism, D.T. The pictures first appeared in their present form, as drawn by the Chinese Chán (Zen) master Kuòān Shīyuǎn (廓庵師遠), in the 12th century, and may represent a Zen Buddhist interpretation of the ten stages experienced by a Bodhisattva as outlined in various Mahāyāna sūtras, most particularly the Avataṃsaka Sūtra.

Clip Source: www.sacred-texts.com

1. If it's true, then the character flaws of the teacher don't turn it into a lie. If it's not true, then the wonderful, perfect, fresh, fragrant, shiny character of the teacher can't turn it into something true. Dharma teachers don't really teach, because you can't teach anyone anything that they don't already know. All a Dharma teacher can do is help you to uncover your own perfect wisdom, your own flawless clarity, the Buddha that you are and have always been.

Buddhism is not belief in magic or superstition, and it's not devotion to gurus. It's pulling your sleepy body and mind out of bed early on cold mornings, getting on a cushion and doing zazen. It's embodying the precepts, living with compassion, humility and gratitude. It's swallowing the entire phenomenal universe whole while simultaneously being swallowed by it. It's realizing that the source of all suffering is attachment to self. It's paying attention.

Clip Source: www.livejournal.com

Tags: buddhism

<clipSource>http://the-urban-monk.livejournal.com/574796.html</clipSource>

schools of Zen Buddhism - a family tree

clipped by: Lexica

Clip Source: www.ciolek.com

Schools of Zen Buddhism

After taking it easy for a while, breathing in fresh oxigen for a change my nephew came to get me. "Aunt Francisca, come over here, you got to help me..." he said. So, I walked with him to some trees where he had a big bucket half full of pine-cones. "Come on, you have to help me fill this bucket" he said. So, I started picking up pine-cones just like he was doing and helped him out. I was picking up pine-cones for about ten minutes when I realised how relaxed I was feeling. I had not thought about a thing other than filling that bucket. But then I started thinking again and I told my nephew that the squirrels might not be too happy about the fact that we were taking all their food away.

My websites

My Photography Gallery

My Travel and Research weblog

Tags: zen, buddhism, meditation

<clipSource>http://meditation-air.blogspot.com/</clipSource>

Christian Mysticism

clipped by: DouglasDirk

Clip Source: www.orderofchristsophia.org

Christian
          Mysticism

Every major
world religion has a mystical branch. Islam's mystical branch is called
Sufism. Buddhism's mystical branch is called Zen. Judaism's mystical
branch is called Kabbalah or Hasidism. And in Christianity we simply
call it Christian Mysticism. Mystics of all religions have the same
goal: to come into a direct experience of the God at the center of their
          beings.

Mystics are not so interested in dogma and care more to find
out from their own experience who God is and what God is like. The entire
practice of the mystic is to achieve ever-deeper connection with that
God within and once connected to enter into a state of union.

Christian
Mysticism has been practiced ever since Jesus Christ Himself began
it. Throughout the ages a person would, now and again, seem to spontaneously
enter into a deeper experience of God than those around them.

Tags: religion, mysticism, mystic, jesus, god, faith

<clipSource>http://www.orderofchristsophia.org/ChristianMysticism/mysticism.html</clipSource>

A Hardcore Punkrock ZEN Monk's Blog

clipped by: kushikushun
clipper's remarks: Great Blog by Brad Warner. Half a billion people in the world consider themselves Buddhists, and millions of Westerners have embraced the religion and its tenets. For the uninitiated, and even for some initiates, Buddhism is overwhelming and mystifying. Often associated with Zen, it’s sometimes reduced to the image of meditation, but as this hefty but accessible guide reveals, there are many streams of Buddhist thought and practice in the world today

leading to a clear and engaging discussion of the Four Noble Truths and the Eightfold Paths that underlie Buddhist thought

Buddhism provides various skillful means for all life’s relationships. As death is inherent in all our life transformations, all our relationships, we come now to the ultimate question: how can we face our lives if we don’t face our deaths? The Zen answer is, ‘Die before you die.’ Then, when your time comes, you’ll be ready. (Nobody said it’s easy.)

Tags: buddhism, zen, master, human, mind, friendship, spirituality

<clipSource>http://shambhalachinese.blogspot.com/2007/08/blog-post_16.html</clipSource>

Internet forums a swamp of venom and abuse

clipped by: redhead328

Clip Source: www.japantoday.com

Internet forums a swamp of venom and abuse
<A href="javascript:alert('This link contains javascript. That’s the theory anyway. First, there was Amazon.com, where anybody — even high school dropouts — could post their opinion on anything from classical CDs to books on quantum physics. Then there was Wikipedia, where the same anybodies could post and edit accounts of everything from Zen Buddhism to String Theory. Now, in an attempt to compete with the swarms of bloggers, practically all major publications have websites that allow readers to comment directly on their articles.

Tags: internet forums, abuse, ethics, free speech, libel

<clipSource>http://www.japantoday.com/jp/comment/1116</clipSource>
