I just discovered the existence of the fabulous Kelly-Marie Stewart on Google News this week. She’s Liverpool-born, 24 years old, has some of the best hair I’ve ever seen, and she stars in Britain’s (Channel 4) Hollyoaks, a popular soap opera. Oh, and she uses a wheelchair too.

I’ve seen quite a few “look-at-me loud” disability inventions in my day, from the rockin’ Intimate Rider sex chair to the crazy Vertran standing wheelchair, but Brad Sodens’ Tank Chair, a non-wheelchair (for there’s not a single wheel to be found on the entire design), that equips triangular-shaped tracks to a cushioney seat, giving hardcore outdoors people the ability to make the wilderness their bitch, is crazy.

And to be fair, you could also thank Roman architect Vitruvius (if you read Vitruvius’ texts he notes that famed Greek mathematician/inventor, Archimedes, constructed his elevator-like design in 236 B.C.), but if you’re a full appreciator of the modern-day elevator like me, the one that allows wheelchair-users to maneuver through 21st century cities like everyone else, your thanks really belong to Elisha Otis.

Was using a taser twice on double amputee Gregory Williams really necessary?

I want to know because honestly (and this isn’t sarcasm), I can’t decide. If you watch this video you’ll see he was out of his wheelchair and plopped on the pavement outside his apartment when the incident occurred. Did I mention he has no legs? And probably more important to note, no prosthetics either? Anyways, check out the video of him recounting his experience and see what you think.

How do you stop from falling out of your wheelchair?

People who use wheelchairs can often be seen using a variety of straps on their bodies . Whether it’s a tiny Velcro strap to hold paralyzed hands in place all day or a chest strap to hold up an ever present limp torso (to prevent the always embarrassing “falling out of your chair” incident), straps in the wc-community are about as common as finding cheap beer at a frat party. They’re everywhere, and they’re honestly kind of annoying.

And is strapping myself in like Hannibal Lector my only option?

A waiter given a £10,000 reward for helping to convict a rapist has donated the money to the victim.

Lloyd Gardner, 22, of Ottery St Mary, Devon, contacted police in 2006 after seeing CCTV footage of a man wanted in connection with the rape in Exeter.

He spotted two women he knew on the film - and they led police to rapist Jakub Tomczak.

Mr Gardner said he did not deserve the reward and hoped the cash would help the woman rebuild her life.

"It was a difficult decision to make because it is a lot of money and it would have been very helpful but I didn't feel like a deserved it at all.

"With the state that the girl was in after the incident, I really felt that it would go towards making her life a lot better over the next couple of years."

The 48-year-old woman who was attacked

was found naked and unconscious

She had suffered a skull fracture and brain damage in the attack and her injuries were so severe she was left with no memory of what had happened and now uses a wheelchair.

Stranger solves student's parking problem

I'm a student at York University and about two weeks ago I was trying to pay for parking at one of the lots on campus. I was using a credit card but the machine was giving me problems, saying the card was denied.

A 72-year-old grandmother had her leg amputated after being told she had cancer only to find out her leg was healthy all along.

Doreen Nicholls underwent the surgery in 2007 and now needs a wheelchair to get about.

According to the Sunday Telegraph, the grandmother was wrongly diagnosed with an extremely rare form of cancer and was told that without a leg amputation, she would die.

Tests carried out after the operation revealed that her left leg, which had been cut off below the knee, was in fact healthy.

Mrs Nicholls told the newspaper that the misdiagnosis, at Birmingham's Royal Orthopaedic Hospital, has destroyed her life.

Despite refusing to accept it was negligent in its treatment of Mrs Nicholls, the specialist hospital has agreed to pay her an out of court settlement which her lawyers described as a 'substantial six-figure sum'.

Officers were desperate to speak to the women, and Mr Gardner came forward to tell officers who they were.

crossbreed foldable wheels enable a full sized adult bicycle or wheelchair to be folded into a compact and convenient package for transportation and storage. With foldable wheels, a wheelchair can fit in the trunk of a Smart car, a storage cupboard at home, or an overhead locker on an airplane.

Sadie has entered my world. Sister to Ruby. Daughter to Mike and Marissa.

It is time, I think, for wishing.

At one time I would wish that a child would grow up in a world with no hunger, no hurt and no hatred. At one time I would try to imagine a world without prejudice, without stereotypes, without bigotry and bias. At one time, I had the capacity for such fantasies.

But now I wish for Sadie only three things.

I hope that she makes her way courageously in the world. Courageously expressing the essence of what it is to be Sadie. Courageously fighting the need to conform and the need to give in. Courageously expressing the individual spark that makes her Sadie. May she find love as Sadie. May she find joy as Sadie. May she never wish to be another. May she use pretense only in play. May she, now, take a Sadie breath and never forget what that tastes like.

I hope that she will recognize early the wonderful world of diversity. May she cook with cumin.
