David Vitter was aimed at excluding immigrants from the population totals that are used to figure the number of congressional representatives for each state. Critics said Vitter's plan would discourage immigrants from responding to the census and would be hugely expensive. They also said that it's long been settled law that the apportionment of congressional seats is determined by the number of people living in each state, regardless of whether they are citizens. A separate survey already collects the data.

The plan fell after a 60-39 procedural vote made it ineligible for attachment to a bill funding the census.

Tags: census, politics, illegal aliens, senate

<clipSource>http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20091105/ap_on_go_co/us_congress_counting_immigrants_1</clipSource>

What is it with liberals and sexual slurs?

clipped by: n2sooners
clipper's remarks: Problems with this article (other than the sexual slurs).

The assumption that the tea party movement is a wing of the republican party when they are just as disgusted with big government republicans as they are with big government democrats.

She called Scozzafava a moderate.

She, like other party loyalists, assumed it would be better for republicans to win with a liberal candidate than lose with a conservative. It's time people stop voting for letters following someone's name and vote for the candidate closest to their own beliefs. It isn't a two party system when both parties are on the same side. The fact that Scozzafava endorsed the democrat was proof that conservatives were right and she was the wrong person for the job. Scozzafava winning would have been just as big a loss for conservatives as Owens winning.

Clip Source: www.rasmussenreports.com

The Tea-Baggers Were Carpetbaggers

A Commentary By Froma Harrop

The Tea Party wing of the Republican Party

Tea-Baggers

Tea-Baggers

Tea-Baggers

Tea-Baggers

Clip Source: www.urbandictionary.com

The #1 'moderate' revealed so much about himself.

Clip Source: www.rushlimbaugh.com

Top Ten GOP Moderate Moments

RUSH: I'd like to share with you what I think,

are -- and it was tough to limit this to ten -- the Top Ten Republican Moderate Moments.

Number ten: Newt Gingrich does a PSA on global warming with Nancy Pelosi in 2008.

Number nine moderate moment in GOP history: Bush-Quayle '92.

The number eight moderate moment GOP history: Dole-Kemp '96.

number seven most moderate moment in Republican history: Ford-Dole '76.

number six: Jumpin' Jim Jeffords jumps from the Republican Party.

: Arlen Specter switches parties.

four: Richard Nixon resigns in disgrace.

number three: Dede Scozzafava endorses the Democrat, Owens

number two: The McCain campaign of 2008.

The number one top ten moderate moment in Republican history: Colin Powell endorsing Barack Obama, the Democrat, for president in 2008!

Every one of them took us where? Backwards!

<clipSource>http://www.rushlimbaugh.com/home/daily/site_110309/content/01125112.guest.html</clipSource>

Election Day

clipped by: debbyski

Clip Source: www.365gay.com

There are lots of things about this country that grate and our history is a hodgepodge of greatness and shame. Sure at the end of the day I’m depressed all over again (being in the minority can do that for you), but there is something about a bunch of disparate people pulling a lever for politicians that gets me every time.

This wasn’t always the case, and I know too many liberals and conservatives who would have no problem returning to our past when it comes to voting (allowing only the “right” people access to the ballot). The U.S. is in this current situation because "We the People" have neglected our duties as citizens to keep ourselves informed, oversee our representatives by making damn sure that they know exactly what we want and then follow-up to ensure that they do what is needed. Casting a vote every 2 to 4 years and then ignoring everything that happens in between voting, does not a Democracy make.

Clip Source: www.veteranstoday.com

Opinion: What Obama Is Up Against

By Russ Baker Truthout

The first anniversary of Barack Obama's historic election finds many of his supporters already grousing. Fair enough: Obama has been more vigorous in some areas than others. But one essential question goes unasked: How much can any president accomplish against the wishes of recalcitrant power centers within his own government?

We Americans harbor a quaint belief that a new president takes charge of a government that eagerly awaits his next command. Like an orchestra conductor or perhaps a football coach, he can inspire or bludgeon and get what he wants. But that's not how things work at the top, especially where "national security" is concerned. The Pentagon and CIA are powerful and independent fiefdoms characterized by entrenched agendas and constant intrigue. They are full of lifers, who see an elected president largely as an annoyance, and have ways of dealing with those who won't come to heel.

Tags: u.s. politics, presidential limitations

<clipSource>http://www.veteranstoday.com/modules.php?name=News&file=article&sid=9232</clipSource>
