It sounds simple, but the sights and stresses of travel can distract even the most inveterate travelers. For example, I had taken some things out of my purse when I was looking for my sunblock, which it turns out I had left in my room. Apparently, I left my Blackberry on the table in the lobby. When I got back downstairs, it was gone. Someone STOLE my new Blackberry – and all my contact info, photos, and favorite ringtones that were on it.

7. Don’t travel to part of any country that is considered dangerous. While “considered dangerous” is open for interpretation, the US State Department issues travel alerts for particularly unsafe parts of the world. It’s a big world with plenty of terrific vacation spots; why ruin a romantic getaway or family vacation in a dangerous travel destination if you don’t have to?

Tags: travel, airports, tsa, theft, crime, vacations, trips

<clipSource>http://travelingmamas.com/2008/05/05/dont-lose-your-stuff-top-10-tips-for-safe-travel/</clipSource>

I'm to Chicken to Try and Fly Without an ID

clipped by: I Google Myself
clipper's remarks: The original post is long but interesting. Last month, TSA announced a change of policy: passengers who “willfully refuse to provide identification at security checkpoint will be denied access… This new procedure will not affect passengers that may have misplaced, lost or otherwise do not have ID but are cooperative with officers.”

I was curious to learn more about the TSA’s new practices for ID-less travelers. As a security professional, I decided to research TSA’s latest security screening procedures. Below is a recounting of my experiment.

What Happened

A man in a dark suit with a TSA pin approached. Think again. With US Airways now charging for water, and Jet Blue charging for in-flight blankets and pillows, the nickel-and-diming of air travel passengers has hit a new low. "Clear" Air-Travel Pass Data Stolen From SFO

The Clear system allows travelers who register and pay a $100.00 annual fee to speed through airport security by using a smart card at special kiosks in some airports. TSA has suspended new registrations in the system, which is run by a private contractor, Verified Identity Pass, Inc., a subsidiary of GE. The laptop was apparently stolen from a locked office at SFO. The company has now decided that it might be a good idea to encrypt the data in their systems. They are in the process of notifying customers that all of their personal data, including name, address, SSi number, passport number, date of birth, etc. has been compromised."

Tags: unencrypted, sfo, personal data, laptop, stolen

<clipSource>http://yro.slashdot.org/yro/08/08/05/1539231.shtml</clipSource>

I feel safer, really I do !

clipped by: douchrti
clipper's remarks: Why not?
