The essence of the Buddha's teaching can be summed up in two principles: the Four Noble Truths and the Noble Eightfold Path. The first covers the side of doctrine, and the primary response it elicits is understanding; the second covers the side of discipline, in the broadest sense of that word, and the primary response it calls for is practice. In the structure of the teaching these two principles lock together into an indivisible unity called the dhamma-vinaya, the doctrine-and-discipline, or, in brief, the Dhamma. The internal unity of the Dhamma is guaranteed by the fact that the last of the Four Noble Truths, the truth of the way, is the Noble Eightfold Path, while the first factor of the Noble Eightfold Path, right view, is the understanding of the Four Noble Truths. Thus the two principles penetrate and include one another, the formula of the Four Noble Truths containing the Eightfold Path and the Noble Eightfold Path containing the Four Truths.

clipper's remarks: I've noticed that the mainstream media still handles McCain with kid gloves. I wonder why that is...? OK, he was a POW, captured by an "enemy" of our government. But why should that give him a one-upmanship over Obama... as far as fair reporting is concerned? Maybe corporate media has more to gain under republican rule or maybe it's just that they fear a McCain attack because they've taken note of how McMean and his Cold-Hearted-VP pick's, mean-spirited, hateful innuendoes launched against Obama have stirred the "Republican base of loathing", to get "physical" with any contrived foe. I believe it's both but they've got the case of the willies when it comes to the ornery right-wing mentality, knowing they might band together and threaten not to buy the goods their sponsors hawk!

clipper's remarks: I don't know, some people's loyalty to the president reminds me of some people's loyalty to a king. Since the pres is not a king it sometimes boggles my mind. When they do discover he is a liar and how much he has lied and for what purposes, I wonder if they remember that day - kind of like remembering where you were when you learn that Kennedy was shot or where you were when 911 happened. If you had such an experience why not write about it. It's an interesting and informative read.

The Rocky Mountain News covered the story this way, along with festive pink pictures:

A river of pink flooded downtown Denver this morning as more than 60,000 people ran and walked in the 16th annual Komen Race for the Cure to support people affected by breast cancer.

That was the liberal half of the news. The other half of the news was that CO Right to Lifers wanting ignorant women to learn a significant but covered up cause of breast cancer - abortion - parked a Truth Truck along the parade route and also picketed with signs....

The other half of the news was that a man jumped out of the crowd and grabbed
Leslie Hanks' signs and literature and tried to destroy them. The cops arrested him, slapped him in cuffs, and Leslie filed a complaint.

The thing that annoys me is that Nintendo made a special Nintendo DS Lite that's white with the pink ribbon and will donate around $100,000 from sales of these hand held video game systems to Susan G. Komen.
