I’m on location in Vryburg, South Africa, in game hunting country. Our seven-hour, bum-numbing drive from Johannesburg has been rewarded with stunning video of one of South Africa’s oldest canned hunting operations.

This form of hunting is so controversial in South Africa it's difficult finding hunters who'll talk about it, let alone allow a CNN film crew to come along on a hunt.

On a canned hunt, animals you’d normally expect to find in the wild like, lions, leopards and rhinos are either placed in an enclosed space or bred specially to be hunted as trophies.

Animal rights groups say it's unethical and immoral and are campaigning for an outright ban of all trophy hunting in South Africa.

Lion breeders make around $25,000 and sometimes more for each lion a hunter shoots.

The lions at Sandhurst Safaris were beautiful -- all 250 of them. Sleek and golden they lived so close to the lodge that in the evening you could hear them roaring into the night.

JUST how much can a koala bear? On a blustery day, in the fork of a tree high above Happy Valley, a sleepy koala sat minding his own business.

The plucky koala swiped at the birds more than 25m above the ground while the crows landed pecks.

The birds' attack increased when the koala tried to beat a retreat down the tree.

In desperation, the koala took evasive action with a 2m horizontal leap of faith from one branch to another. That was too much for the birds. They took off for easier sport.

Major League Baseball told: Your sport is British, not American

Stepping up to the plate: William Bray (1736-1832) played baseball in Surrey in 1755 and made the first known recording of the game

Historians in Surrey have documentary proof that the game was being played in the UK before America.

A diary entry which talks about a game played in Guildford, Surrey in 1755 has been verified as authentic by the Surrey History Centre.

The handwritten entry was discovered in the diary of lawyer William Bray and documents a game with friends on Easter Monday of that year when he was still a teenager. It reads: "Went to Stoke church this morn.- After dinner, went to Miss Jeale's to play at base ball with her the 3 Miss Whiteheads, Miss Billinghurst, Miss Molly Flutter, Mr. Chandler, Mr. Ford and H. Parsons. Drank tea and stayed til 8."

Surrey County Council have written to Major League Baseball, the governing body of the sport in the US, to inform them of the find.

These are strange times we live in. I've been getting better gossip out of the Huffington Post than Us magazine. I've seen the same people who lambasted Lynn Spears for being the worst mother in America show compassion for Palin and her pregnant daughter. I've seen Republicans complain that any criticism of Sarah Palin is sexist, while delegates at the Republican convention sport "The Hottest VP From the Coolest State" buttons. Like I said, strange times.

Democrats would likely opt for re-crafting the Palin story into an update of the 1972 film "The Candidate," or "The Manchurian Candidate," or even "Dr. Strangelove," though I'm not sure how funny people would now find the tale of a mad general (or vice president) ordering a nuclear attack on a country like . . . Iran.

I asked a few creative people around town how they'd pitch the Palin story to the studios, but most demurred, because they said it was too unbelievable for Hollywood.
