Woman broke her back just by sneezing

A mother of three is back on her feet after breaking her back in a freak sneezing accident.

Victoria Kenny ruptured a disc in her spine with the force of her sneeze, leaving her nearly paralysed for a year and in constant pain.

It meant she had to quit her job as a solicitor and was house-bound. She had to be spoon-fed and became so depressed she even considered ending her life.

But now, two years later, she is back to full health, thanks to pioneering surgery by a private company called SpineWorks which involved being fitted with a metal cage on her spine.

Incredibly, Mrs Kenny, of Chichester in West Sussex, was walking within a week of the operation and has been able to return to work with the help of physiotherapy.

'I couldn't believe I had been like that for two years and then suddenly it was all over,' said the 52-year-old.

'Now I don't take anything for granted. I make the most of every day, and try to spend more time with my family and friends.

Dr John Bridger, who performed the post mortem, said no 'underlying trauma' or skull fractures was found.

Coroner for Torbay and South Devon Ian Arrow said John died of subdural haematoma - trauma to the brain - and coronary artery disease.

Retuning a verdict of accidental death, he said: 'The presence of Warfarin means the body is more susceptible to bleeding which means it could have been a minor trauma which lead to his death.

'He would have suffered a minor trauma and on the balance of probably it was likely it was the sneeze which lead to his death.'

A father died after suffering a brain haemorrhage and a heart attack caused by a heavy sneeze, an inquest heard.

Retired design engineer John Oram, 79, collapsed after he was seen sneezing 'violently' by care home staff.

The force of the sneeze caused brain and heart trauma and he died in hospital two days later on July 18, an inquest was told.

His son Mark, 50, said his father was 'sorely missed' and it was surprised something as 'innocuous' as a sneeze could have killed him.

He said: 'It does seem to be unusual demise from sneezing but his medical history of having heart condition 30 years necessitated him being on medication.

'I guess as you get everything gets weaker more susceptible to being damaged.'

Sept. 11, 2009 -- Having nasal allergies may dim people's sex lives, researchers report.

Nasal allergy symptoms such as sneezing and having a runny or stuffy nose may be to blame, note father-and-son research team Michael Benninger, MD, of the Cleveland Clinic and Ryan Benninger of Miami University in Oxford, Ohio.

"Even the simple act of kissing may be altered by these symptoms. Many people may not feel 'sexy' or may actually be embarrassed by their symptoms so that they would avoid intimate contact," the Benningers wrote in a recent edition of Allergy and Asthma Proceedings.

About 17% of people with nasal allergies reported that their problem "almost always" or "always" affects their sexual activity, compared to 5% of people with other nasal problems and none of the healthy people.

Anyway, the reason I added this clip today is I had a comment on my other clip "Things I Know That You Should Know", and how he believes that bacteria is generally harmless in a bio-war situation. There are countless bacterias out there that could do the job, but I used Staph as an example because almost everyone has heard of it, or has it, or has had one form or another of the blasted stuff. When it is active in the nose it can spread to the brain as well. It has become very resilient to most antibiotics, and it most certainly can be deadly!
