At least 200 million people around the world risk their health daily by eating food grown using untreated waste water, some of which may be contaminated with heavy metals and raw sewage, according to major study of 53 world cities.

Urban farmers in 80% of the cities surveyed were found to be using untreated waste water, but the study said they also provided vital food for burgeoning cities at a time of unprecedented water scarcity and the worst food crisis in 30 years.

Wanna know more on coffee makers? Drinking coffee used to be so simple, just some beans and hot water,now there seem to be a very heavy reliance on coffee machines. There is the single serve, the vacuum, the semi-auto, the auto and even the super automatic espresso machines just to make that cup of cappuccino! And the technology that goes into it is amazing, now a Bunn can even tell you the weather as you enjoy that cuppa!

As a serious coffee drinker, always remember this:

-raw green coffee beans can retain their freshness for years

-Roasted coffee beans begin to lose their flavor after a week

Pixlr is a online image editor, that means that you can upload your images and edit them in your browser. It is built in Flash and you need to have a Flash plug in (get flash) to get it to work.

Pixlr is built for non-professionals, the users that have basic editing needs. It's not for large RAW images or for printing. It is merely a tool for editing web images to be posted on blogs, news-sites, social networks like Facebook, Bebo, image sites like Flikr, Photobucket etc.

The application is developed by a Swedish team. The most part is by a developer named Ola Sevandersson ola@pixlr.com

Since it is Flash based the question about how it runs is up to what kind of computer you have. If it is lagging you can try to shut down other web pages that might be running flash ads or close other software on your computer that is taking a lot of CPU.

China furniture destroys forests

Imports of illegally felled timber into China is destroying some of the world's forests, according to Forest Trends.

Western consumers also play a major role, the Washington based non-profit group says.

China is importing raw wood to turn it into cheap furniture, plywood and other processed products, 70% of which it exports to rich country markets.

The report says this leads to depletion of the world's forests with devastating social and environmental consequences.

In recent years, the study says, China has emerged as the leading importer of tropical trees.

The problem is that much of this wood is illegally sourced and may come from rain forests and other enviromentally sensitive areas.

The numbers are huge.

The study says exports of wood based products going from China to Europe and the US have gone up 900% in just eight years.

The findings are the result of five years of collaborative research by organsiations in the US, Indonesia and China itself.

Grown worldwide for millenia as a source of food, medicine, fiber and paper, hemp was banned for the first time in human history in 1938 by the United States.

The original impetus for outlawing the hemp plant came from the DuPont and Mellon families with an important assist from William Randolf Hearst.

Hearst owned timber rights for millions of acres of forest land, the raw material for newsprint. DuPont had patents for numerous synthetic products that hemp is competitive with.

Harry Anslinger, the virulent racist who headed the Bureau of Narcotics and spear-headed the campaign against "demon marijuana" was married to the niece of Richard Mellon of the Mellon banking family.

For those who believe that the world is run by and for the benefit of a few interlocking families, this episode provides evidence for that position.

Enforcing marijuana laws and jailing offenders is a multi-billion dollar a year business that employs tens of thousands of people.

Hershey Co. said Friday it plans to raises prices on its products by an average of 11 percent as it tries to stem the impact of soaring commodities costs, and trimmed its projections for 2008 and 2009.

The Hershey-based chocolatier said its commodities costs will grow by more than $110 million this year — a figure that could double in 2009.

Meanwhile, Hershey also narrowed its 2008 earnings and revenue guidance because of the price hikes.

The candy company known for its chocolate bars bite-sized Kisses said the immediate increase was necessary to offset "significant increases" in the cost of raw materials such as sugar, cocoa and peanuts — up as much as 45 percent since the start of the year — as well as the growing cost of fuel, utilities and transportation.

"Commodity costs have been volatile over the last several years and continue to remain at levels that are well above historical averages," Hershey's President and Chief Executive David J. West said in a statement.

6 Cornflake chicken bites

Cut boneless chicken breasts into small pieces. Dip in milk or buttermilk, then dredge in seasoned crushed cornflake crumbs or cornmeal. Pan-fry in oil, drain, cool and eat cold with celery sticks, with ranch or blue-cheese dressing for dipping.

7 Mackerel pâté

With four young children we always include a few tubs of dips and dunkers - they're easy, nourishing and travel well. Mix flaked smoked mackerel, crème fraîche, lemon juice and a good dash of horseradish. Or we do chickpea purée: whizz a tin of chick peas with 4 tbs natural yoghurt, lemon juice and chopped fresh mint. Then pack a mixture of raw vegetable sticks, cooked shelled prawns tossed in olive oil and some grissini.

1 Beetroot salad

Peel raw beetroots and grate them. Add pistachios or hazelnuts; dress with orange zest and juice, and olive oil. Add some goats' cheese and chopped parsley.

2 Pesto chicken rolls

Grill chicken pieces. Brush tortilla or any other wrap-type bread with pesto; layer with the cut chicken, sun-dried tomatoes and rocket; roll up and cut on the bias.

3 Curried egg salad

Make egg salad with hard-boiled eggs, mayo, curry powder, Dijon mustard, lime juice, salt, pepper, parsley, onion and apple.

4 Tomatoes and peaches

Toss together sliced seeded tomatoes and peaches, along with thinly sliced red onion and chopped parsley or rosemary. Dress at the last minute with olive oil, lemon juice, salt and pepper.

5 Roast beef and blue cheese

Start with whole-grain rolls. Smear blue cheese on one side and prepared horseradish on the other. Add red onion and sliced beef, pork or lamb. Pack lettuce, tomato and crisps on the side.
