There were a lot of tears today on Clarcona Ocoee Road. Tears of happiness of the graduates receiving their brand new service dogs and tears of puppy raisers saying goodbye to someone very special to them.

I had the pleasure today of meeting a family who just recently applied for a service dog for their son who is autistic. They came today just to watch the ceremony and to see what was in store for them. I sat and talked with the parents, and the little boy sat quietly, not speaking or having much interaction with anyone, including his family. I was told by the family this is exactly why they were looking into a service dog

Sure enough, in a few minutes, the Dad brought the boy over to pet Orianna. For the first time all day, he grinned from ear to ear, enthusiastic about this dog he was petting. And the Dad said to me, "Wouldn't it be something if in a few months, she was his dog?"

Congratulations on Matriculating, Orianna...you go, girl!

An American professor is preparing to market a form of canine gene therapy, which would see dogs injected with substances which switch off the genes that regulate their muscle growth.

Prof Lee Sweeney, from the University of Pennsylvania, has pioneered research into gene transfer technology, a field in which poorly functioning and abnormal genes are manipulated, switched off or replaced.

Ten years ago he created "mighty mice" in the lab with enormous muscles and strength in old age. Now he says experiments on dogs have been so successful that he is preparing to market the treatments to owners of ageing pets across the United States.

He said: "We are now in the final stages of getting all the approvals to offer this through the veterinary hospital as a treatment to try to improve strength in pet dogs.

State Veterinary Association says taxing pet and food animal health care could result in increased pet abandonment, euthanasia and public health concerns

The current proposal to tax veterinary medical care is contained in the administration's "Governor's Budget: Special Session 2008-09" document. The proposal recommends that on February 1, 2009, the sales and use tax be broadened to include services, such as "appliance and furniture repair, vehicle repair, golf, and veterinarian services."

try telling him he makes you feel "hunted," i said this to mine, and he started panting and groaning and sort of roughly whispered "i make you feel hunted?" i said "yes, you make me feel like i'm your prey,"

it was very very very well received.

LINCOLN, Neb. – The mother was running out of more than patience when she abandoned her 18-year-old daughter at a hospital over the weekend under Nebraska's safe-haven law. She was also running out of time: She knew that state lawmakers would soon meet in a special session to amend the ill-fated law so that it would apply to newborns only.

To the state's surprise and embarrassment, more than half of the 33 children legally abandoned under the safe-haven law since it took effect in mid-July have been teenagers.

"These are largely families at a point of incredible desperation," said Wayne Sensor, chief executive of Alegent Health. "They aren't bad parents or bad kids. They simply don't know what services are available out there."

Pet Pals videogame has never been so realistic until they have released their first Pet Pals first new Wii version. Playing this game on Nintendo Wii is like being a real Vet doctor. Where the player has to think and moreover has to perform the actual surgery like a Veterinarian surgeon.

In the future there will be more simulation games like this one that are intended for professionals. Where real surgeon gets training and moreover performs the surgery with Nintendo Wii remotes and Wii robots perform the surgery. The benefits of using Wii robots will be in the actual machine precision which is more accurate than the shaking hands of a surgeon.

Teachers there selected fifth-grade girls from the Ladies Club, a group of about two dozen third-, fourth- and fifth-graders who receive lessons in etiquette, good behavior and setting goals.

An Arundel teacher engages children through a method inspired by a movie that was, in turn, inspired by life

It was a simple but revealing homework assignment for a group of fifth-grade girls at Van Bokkelen Elementary School in Severn: Come up with a list of questions you would like to ask your classmates

As she read from the girls' list of questions, she asked students to step on the line if they could answer yes to a question or agree with a statement she read.

Students would then step back off the line to wait for the next question.

It started off easy: Step on the line if you like rap music. All but one of the girls moved forward before stepping back. Eight girls stepped on the line when asked whether they had a pet.

This type of sharing might seem jarring, and it is meant to be. By opening up to each other through the spoken word, the girls are learning to express themselves through the written word

Peruvians crazy about their national dog, a bald and often toothless breed popular among Incan kings, offered on Monday to send a hypoallergenic puppy to the Obama family.

U.S. President-elect Barack Obama has promised daughters Malia, 10, and Sasha, 7, a new pet for the White House. But Malia is allergic to most breeds, he said on Friday as speculation swirled about the dog the family would choose.

Owners of the Peruvian Hairless Dog, a breed dating back 3,000 years and depicted in pre-Hispanic ceramics, say it is perfect for kids who are sensitive to dogs.

According to Peruvian folklore, the dogs have above-average body temperature, which compensates for their lack of hair and helps alleviate symptoms of asthma or arthritis suffered by their owners.

Galvez has a 4-month-old pedigree puppy to send to the Obama family. For now, she is calling it Ears because it has two large, perky ones.
