One sunny day in 2009, an old man approached the White House from across Pennsylvania Ave , where he'd been sitting on a park bench.

He spoke to the US Marine standing guard and said, "I would like to go in and meet with President Bush."

The Marine looked at the man and said, "Sir, Mr. Bush is no longer president and no longer resides here."

The old man said, "Okay" and walked away.

The following day, the same man approached the White House and said to the same Marine, "I would like to go in and meet with President Bush." The Marine again told the man, "Sir, as I said yesterday, Mr. Bush is no longer president and no longer resides here."

The man thanked him and, again just walked away.

The third day, the same man approached the White House and spoke to the very same US Marine, saying "I would like to go in and meet with President Bush."

An American professor is preparing to market a form of canine gene therapy, which would see dogs injected with substances which switch off the genes that regulate their muscle growth.

Prof Lee Sweeney, from the University of Pennsylvania, has pioneered research into gene transfer technology, a field in which poorly functioning and abnormal genes are manipulated, switched off or replaced.

Ten years ago he created "mighty mice" in the lab with enormous muscles and strength in old age. Now he says experiments on dogs have been so successful that he is preparing to market the treatments to owners of ageing pets across the United States.

He said: "We are now in the final stages of getting all the approvals to offer this through the veterinary hospital as a treatment to try to improve strength in pet dogs.

In a speech at the Miami governors conference, Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin, a popular figure with the religious right, praised the "prayer warriors" she met on the campaign trial. She also alluded to the party's official opposition to abortion rights, saying that "defense of those who are vulnerable and weak" represents "all that is good in America." Added Palin: "Heaven help us if we get away from that principle."

The look-back period is being implemented differently in different states. Some states, like New York, are phasing in the 60-month look-back period. According to these states, the look-back period cannot be greater than 36 months until at least February 2009, the first point at which an individual could possibly have made a transfer that occurred more than 36 months after the DRA enactment. Other states have sidestepped the issue or look at the past 60 months of transfers for all applications filed after the DRA’s enactment (Feb. 8, 2006) regardless of when the transfer occurred.

UPPER DARBY, Pa. (CBS) ― What started as a burglary investigation at an Upper Darby, Pa. home led to a drug bust, the discovery of guns, fake police badges and Nazi uniforms and memorabilia.

Upper Darby police say they responded to a report of a burglary Friday afternoon and once inside the residence, they arrested Edward Hatton and his wife Debra who were allegedly growing and selling marijuana and using high-powered weapons to protect their operation.

For example: remember how they said Spanish-speaking voters wouldn't vote for a black candidate in the presidential election? They did, by more than 2-1.

How blue-collar working class voters wouldn't support a smart Chicago lawyer? Yes, they did, in states like Michigan, Ohio and Pennsylvania.

More evidence has emerged that babies born from frozen embryos are healthier than those that develop from fresh embryos, researchers say.

Three studies presented to a US fertility conference found frozen embryo babies were less likely to be premature and under weight.

Previous research has suggested this is down to only the strongest embryos surviving the freezing process.

Fertility experts said more work was needed on the issue.

A Finnish study, to be presented to the American Society for Reproductive Medicine meeting in San Francisco, found that babies born from fresh embryos were 35% more likely to be premature and 64% more likely to have low birthweight than those born from frozen.

A second study, from the University of Pennsylvania in Philadelphia, found that babies born from fresh embryos were 51% more likely to have low birthweight and were 15% more likely to die around the time of birth than those born from frozen embryos.
