The latest annual Wireless Security Survey from RSA has revealed that London is still the worlds wireless network (Wi-Fi) capital with a total of 12,276 access points detected, exceeding the number found in New York City by more than 3,000.

However the French capital of Paris broke all the records with a 543% year-over-year increase in the number of wireless access points, which compares with London's 72% (down from 160% last year) and New York City's 45% (down from 49%).

The survey also examined how many of the wireless access points detected were secured with some form of encryption (hotspots excluded). In New York City, 97% of corporate access points had encryption in place (76% last year). In Paris, 94% of corporate access points were encrypted - although in London, 20% of all business access points continue to be completely unprotected.

If America continues to choose to threaten the security of Europe with their paranoid evil plans, I will know for sure that America is the true enemy of the whole world. Russia are closer neighbours to us, than the US and I for one, (among many others here in Dk), trust them a hell of a lot more, than we'll ever trust America.

Get Obama to stop the plans for the stupid paranoid damned missile shield.

Medvedev: ready to respond if U.S. ends missile plan

PARIS (Reuters) - Russia could cancel its deployment of missiles near the Polish border if U.S. President-elect Barack Obama scraps plans for a missile defense system in central Europe, Russian President Dmitry Medvedev said.

Medvedev said Moscow had no choice but to react to U.S. plans to set up a network of missiles and radar systems near its own frontiers.

"But we are ready to abandon this decision to deploy the missiles in Kaliningrad if the new American administration, after analyzing the real usefulness of a system to respond to 'rogue states', decides to abandon its anti-missile system," he said.

"We are ready to negotiate a 'zero option'. We are ready to reflect on a system of global security with the United States, the countries of the European Union and the Russian Federation."

In 1900, William Henry Goodyear (Brooklyn Museum's first curator) traveled to the Paris for the World Exposition of that year, with photographer Joseph Hawkes. They brought back numerous images from the exposition including street life, vistas, pavilions, statues, and other structures and decorative details. PARIS (Reuters) - Muslim scholars make a rare visit to the Vatican next week to discuss with Pope Benedict and Roman Catholic experts how to overcome mutual suspicion and ignorance between Christianity and Islam.

Twenty-four signatories of A Common Word, a Muslim call to dialogue with Christianity issued last year, will assemble in Rome from around the Islamic world for the November 4-6 talks, the first annual meeting of a new Catholic-Muslim Forum.

Palin's youngest son has Down's syndrome, a genetic disorder caused by the presence of an extra chromosome 21. Although a geneticist by training, I am certainly no expert on the pathogenesis of this condition, nor the significance of Drosophila research into Down's syndrome. So, I typed "drosophila trisomy 21" into PubMed, the scholarly biomedical equivalent of Google. There were 109 results, the most recent published just the day before Palin's gaffe. The concluding sentence of that study — about the genetic cues that steer nerve fibres around during the growth of the fruit fly — suggests that the paper will "have implications for the pathogenesis of Down's syndrome".

These two are drops in the ocean of fruit fly research that have clinical relevance. Down's syndrome, Alzheimer's disease, autism, diabetes, ageing research, cancers of all types

Recent death of black man in Paris echoes horrific crime a decade ago

In a gruesome case with powerful echoes of the dragging death of James Byrd a decade ago, a black man was killed underneath a pickup in East Texas and two white men have been charged with murder.

McClelland died after going with two white acquaintances on a late-night beer run across the state line to Oklahoma, investigators said. Authorities said he was run over and dragged as much as 70 feet beneath the truck. His torn-apart body was discovered along a bloodstained rural road on Sept. 16. His mother said pieces of his skull could still be found three days later.

The case has raised racial tensions in Paris, a town of 26,000 with a history of fraught relations between blacks and whites.

To some, it sounds like the Byrd case, in which a black man in the East Texas town of Jasper, about 200 miles south of Paris, was chained by the ankles to the back of a truck by three white supremacists and dragged for three miles.

Simon, 47, and her husband, Scott, 48, estimate the jewelry, including her six-carat-diamond engagement ring and dozens of other pieces, is worth more than $500,000.

On the other side of the spectrum, a Newport Beach councilman is in hot water because his house might not be nice enough.

The discovery, made in Drosophila fruit flies may lead to advances in understanding autism spectrum disorders, as recently, human neurexins have been identified as a genetic risk factor for autism.

The study of fruit flies has also been used for other autism research and “revolutionize[d]” the study of birth defects.

This morning, Gov. Sarah Palin (R-AK) gave her first policy speech urging the federal government to fully fund the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA), “a law ensuring services to children with disabilities throughout the nation.” In the speech, Palin cited the need to do more for children with disabilities such as autism:

Palin claimed that the amount that Congress spends on earmarks “is more than the shortfall to fully fund IDEA.” She then ridiculed some of the projects — such as “fruit fly research” — saying they have little or no value:

That day 3 IDF soldiers had died and revenge was expected. It was not expected that a cameraman doing his job would be a target. Uniquely, the murder was recorder on the video camera on his shoulder. Supposedly the camera was mistaken for a missile. NO action of any type was taken against the killer. Par for the course in the morally corrupt society and its armed terrorist wing, the IDF.

Hopefully Obama will withdraw financial support from this soon. I care little if the withdrawal is for moral or financial reasons.

Israel drops in world press ranking

Israel has fallen in the rankings of the controversial World Press Freedom Index that is published each year by the non-profit, Paris-based Reporters Without Borders organization.

However, it has dropped to 149th place in the world rankings for its treatment of journalists over the Green Line. According to the report, "the Israel military's responsibility for the death of a Palestinian cameraman employed by Reuters in April and the impunity granted to the soldier who fired the fatal shell account for Israel's fall in the ranking."

According to a Reuters report, the cameraman, 23-year-old Fadel Shana, had stepped from his car to film an Israeli tank dug in several hundred meters away
