LOS ANGELES -- Instead of joining his protester friends on the snowy sidewalk outside the Bureau of Land Management office in Salt Lake City, Tim DeChristopher took a seat inside. In a room milling with oil and gas men who knew one another by sight, he was the unknown in a red parka, registering as a bidder in an auction for the rights to drill on 149,000 acres of federal land. DeChristopher was handed a red paddle bearing the number 70.

The University of Utah economics student got stuck with 13. Promising the federal government $1.8 million he does not have, DeChristopher emerged holding leases on 22,000 acres in the scenic southeast corner of Utah.

He might have gone home with more had federal agents not led him out of the room after he secured the rights to a dozen parcels in a row, finally just holding his paddle over his head, even between offers. The U.S. attorney is considering charges that a spokeswoman declined to specify.

You can use Castille soap to make several varieties of body wash. Here is one recipe:
Vanilla Almond Soap

1/3 cup whole almonds
1 4-ounce bar Castille soap
1/4 cup distilled water
1 tablespoon almond oil
1/8 teaspoon vanilla essential oil

Grind the almonds in a food processor or coffee grinder. Using a cheese grater or a knife, shred the bar of Castille soap. Boil the water and add the shredded soap, stirring until you get a nice gooey texture. Reduce to a simmer and then add in the almond grinds, oil and vanilla. You can spoon the soap into molds (ice cubes can make little gift soaps) and let it sit for around five hours until it hardens.

Clip Source: www.alternativeconsumer.com

The body wash and shampoo aisle is overwhelming. There are literally thousands of different soaps and shampoos “specially formulated” for your hair by people who have never seen your hair. Here are a few things to watch out for when buying soaps:

soap companies can put “natural” on just about anything

“fragrance” means a conglomeration of chemicals

avoid anything that has palm oil, as it is extremely unsustainably harvested

A great resource when purchasing health & beauty products is the good guide.

You can also look for local soap producers, and see if you can support their business and get clean, chemical free soap

Make sure to recycle old soap as well. If you have little nubs of bar soap you can use them for tailor’s chalk (dry soap makes little white marks on fabric), bubble baths, or save them and form a new bar with the leftovers.

Tags: diy, soap

<clipSource>http://www.alternativeconsumer.com/2009/11/02/diy-soap-cleaning-up-your-act/</clipSource>

Global oil supply 'far worse than admitted'

clipped by: tabsey
clipper's remarks: Plausible, would not be surprised if so at the transparent level. That's the word from two anonymous IEA whistleblowers, The Guardian reports. To add insult to industry, the figures were deliberately massaged, at least in part, to appease the United States:

Apparently the IEA was concerned that reporting the true reserve numbers -- and keep in mind that determining oil reserves is as much art as science -- it would trigger a buying panic.

So, more than anything, this illustrates the same head in the sand thinking that dogs climate change negotiations. Out of fear of disrupting current activity, profit, lifestyles, what have you, you put off action for the future, even though it's inevitable that those have to change.

Tags: 1-denial, 1-peak oil, 1-policy, 2-trend, 3-reported, 4-intl, 4-us

<clipSource>http://www.alternet.org/story/143888/whistleblowers_say_oil_reserve_numbers_deliberately_inflated_to_avoid_panic%2C_appease_the_us</clipSource>

Panic! at the Citgo: Running Out of Oil, and Why 450 is the New 350.

clipped by: brightlight4

Clip Source: www.care2.com

Panic! at the Citgo: Running Out of Oil, and Why 450 is the New 350.

Oil supplies in flux

According to a report in the Guardian, the Agency may have deliberately overstated world oil supplies, in order to avoid a worldwide buying panic. An unnamed (and therefore unverified) sources claim that the US has played an influential role in encouraging the organization to "underplay the rate of decline from existing oil fields while overplaying the chances of finding new reserves." Another (also unnamed) source was quoted as saying "We have [already] entered the 'peak oil' zone. I believe that art helps us to be free from aggression and depression."

Tags: art, artist

<clipSource>http://amolife.com/image/art/leonid-afremov.html</clipSource>

Oregano oil eliminates parasites in humans

clipped by: The Infowarrior
clipper's remarks: "In one study, 77 percent of patients treated for enteric parasites were parasite free after taking oil of oregano in tablet form for six weeks. At this writing, it has inhibited the growth of at least ten different microbes, including Candida albicans (yeast). To top it off, oregano - like its relative rosemary - contains the powerful compound rosmarinic acid, which has been found to have anti-mutagenic and anti-carcinogenic properties. "

Clip Source: www.naturalnews.com

It's not widely known, but oregano extracts are extremely effective at eliminating parasites in humans. And a lot of people have parasites they simply don't know about.

So here, we've collected a number of supporting statements about the anti-parasitic properties of oregano. You'll learn a wealth of information by reading what follows. But before we present the list, let me recommend three sources for oregano oil that you might want to check out after reading this:

Global Healing Center: www.GHChealth.com

North American Herb & Spice: www.P-73.com

Vitacost: www.vitacost.com

Just search for "oregano" on any of these three websites and you'll find what you're looking for. I strongly recommend all three of these companies, and I personally know their owners. (I have no financial relationship whatsoever with any of these companies and don't earn anything from the sales of oregano products.)

Oregano vs. parasites

Tags: parasites, health, oregano, natural news, herbal remedy, alternative medicine, oregano oil, food, cure, treatment

<clipSource>http://www.naturalnews.com/027333_parasites_oregano_health.html</clipSource>

Rainforest treaty 'fatally flawed'

clipped by: The Infowarrior
clipper's remarks: "Climate summit loophole lets palm oil producers cull vital wilderness"

More @ Source.

Clip Source: www.independent.co.uk

A vital safeguard to protect the world's rainforests from being cut down has been dropped from a global deforestation treaty due to be signed at the climate summit in Copenhagen in December.

Under proposals due to be ratified at the summit, countries which cut down
rainforests and convert them to plantations of trees such as oil palms would
still be able to classify the result as forest and could receive millions of
dollars meant for preserving them. An earlier version of the text ruled out
such a conversion but has been deleted, and the EU delegation – headed by
Britain – has blocked its reinsertion.

Environmentalists say plantations are in no way a substitute for the lost
natural forest in terms of wildlife, water production or, crucially, as a
store of the carbon dioxide which is emitted into the atmosphere when
forests are destroyed and intensifies climate change.
