Zion Oil & Gas, as readers of this blog may recall, was founded by an American businessman named John Brown, who believes that the Bible prophesises that he personally will be the man to discover huge oil reserves in Israel. Brown also claims that that Bible contains the information needed to find the oil; Christian Zionist supremo Hal Lindsey agreed, and

[Genesis 49] predicts [Jacob’s] great blessing [to Joseph] will come from "the deep that lies beneath" his land. And specifically on "crown of his head." The land that was allotted to Joseph's two sons forms the profile of a man's head.

Now listen to another prophecy about the blessing of another of Jacob's sons whose land adjoins Joseph's.

Moses proclaimed blessings on Jacob's sons just before he died. He predicted concerning Asher:

Asher is most blessed of sons; let him be favored by his brothers, and let him dip his foot in OIL.

What Lindsey didn’t mention when puffing the company (and which was revealed exclusively on this blog), was that his cousin Ralph DeVore was a major shareholder. However, a few months later DeVore left Zion in acrimonious circumstances, and Hal has been quiet about the subject since then.

DIY soap – cleaning up your act

clipper's remarks: Half way recipes (in which you take a pure form of soap and spruce it up) can be easy to do at home. You can use Castille soap to make several varieties of body wash. Here is one recipe:
Vanilla Almond Soap

1/3 cup whole almonds
1 4-ounce bar Castille soap
1/4 cup distilled water
1 tablespoon almond oil
1/8 teaspoon vanilla essential oil

Grind the almonds in a food processor or coffee grinder. Using a cheese grater or a knife, shred the bar of Castille soap. Boil the water and add the shredded soap, stirring until you get a nice gooey texture. Reduce to a simmer and then add in the almond grinds, oil and vanilla. You can spoon the soap into molds (ice cubes can make little gift soaps) and let it sit for around five hours until it hardens.

avoid anything that has palm oil, as it is extremely unsustainably harvested

A great resource when purchasing health & beauty products is the good guide.

You can also look for local soap producers, and see if you can support their business and get clean, chemical free soap

Make sure to recycle old soap as well. If you have little nubs of bar soap you can use them for tailor’s chalk (dry soap makes little white marks on fabric), bubble baths, or save them and form a new bar with the leftovers.

A vital safeguard to protect the world's rainforests from being cut down has been dropped from a global deforestation treaty due to be signed at the climate summit in Copenhagen in December.

Under proposals due to be ratified at the summit, countries which cut down rainforests and convert them to plantations of trees such as oil palms would still be able to classify the result as forest and could receive millions of dollars meant for preserving them. An earlier version of the text ruled out such a conversion but has been deleted, and the EU delegation – headed by Britain – has blocked its reinsertion.

Environmentalists say plantations are in no way a substitute for the lost natural forest in terms of wildlife, water production or, crucially, as a store of the carbon dioxide which is emitted into the atmosphere when forests are destroyed and intensifies climate change.

Is an Oil Pipeline Behind the War in Afghanistan?

Testimony before the US Congress is circulating on the internet. It pertains to a proposed oil pipeline through Central Asia that is applicable to the current war in Afghanistan.

February 12, 1998, John J. Maresca, vice president, international relations for UNOCAL oil company, testified before the US House of Representatives, Committee on International Relations. Maresca provided information to Congress on Central Asia oil and gas reserves and how they might shape US foreign policy.

The oil reserves are in areas north of Afghanistan, Turkmenistan, Uzbekistan, Kazakhstan and Russia. Routes for a pipeline were proposed that would transport oil on a 42-inch pipe southward thru Afghanistan for 1040 miles to the Pakistan coast.

Maresca told Congress then that: "It's not going to be built until there is a single Afghan government. That's the simple answer."

The ongoing Montara / West Atlas oil spill in the Timor Sea off Western Australia is now in its 62nd day. So far, three attempts to intercept and plug the leaking well have failed. Another attempt should happen today. A MODIS / Terra satellite image taken on October 21 - exactly two months after the blowout and spill began - shows slicks and sheen covering 2,600 square miles and approaching within 35 miles of the Kimberley coas t. Conservation groups based in Alaska have accused the Obama administration of repeating the mistakes of George Bush after it gave the conditional go-ahead for Shell to begin drilling offshore for oil and natural gas in the environmentally sensitive Beaufort Sea.

The Minerals Management Service, part of the federal Interior Department, yesterday gave Shell the green light to begin exploratory wells off the north coast of Alaska in an Arctic area that is home to large numbers of endangered bowhead whales and polar bears, as well as walruses, ice seals and other species.

the bowhead stocks are sensitive to noise and could be driven further off shore by the disruption of drilling

There are also fears that any drilling could lead to oil spills which would be impossible to clean up amid the Arctic's broken sea ice

Find a baking sheet with raised edges to prevent escapees. Drizzle the baking sheet with olive oil, dump in your rinsed and drained seeds, and add seasonings. I used a combination of garlic salt and cajun spice here, but use whatever you like. Options include hot sauces, soy sauce, curry powder, worchestershire sauce, or anything else that makes your mouth happy. Stir the seeds around with your fingers until they're all well covered in oil and spice. Lick your fingers to make sure you're happy with the spice mixture.

Toss them into the oven at 350-400F. Stir periodically to prevent sticking or burning. Have you ever made chex mix? This is about the same thing.

When they're golden brown on the edges, set them aside to cool. Be careful- hot oily pumpkin seeds will burn you.

step 4Serve

Serve warm or at room temperature

BANGKOK — There are plenty of needy countries at the U.N. climate talks in Bangkok that make the case they need financial assistance to adapt to the impacts of global warming. Then there are the Saudis.

Saudi Arabia has led a quiet campaign during these and other negotiations — demanding behind closed doors that oil-producing nations get special financial assistance if a new climate pact calls for substantial reductions in the use of fossil fuels.

That campaign comes despite an International Energy Agency report released this week showing that OPEC revenues would still increase $23 trillion between 2008 and 2030 — a fourfold increase compared to the period from 1985 to 2007 — if countries agree to significantly slash emissions and thereby cut their use of oil.

Ingredients

* 1-1 1/2 lb cubed beef stew meat
* 1/2 cup flour
* 1 1/2 teaspoons salt
* 1/2 teaspoon pepper
* 1/4 cup vegetable oil
* 1 onion, chopped fine
* 1 carrot, chopped fine
* 1/4 cup finely chopped celery, with a few minced leaves
* 1 tablespoon dried parsley
* 1 pinch thyme
* 3 1/2 cups beef broth
* 2 medium potatoes, diced
* 2 carrots, diced
* 2 onions, diced

Directions

1. Put flour, salt and pepper in a large ziploc bag.
2. Heat oil over medium heat in a large dutch oven.
3. Place meat in bag with the flour and shake until well coated.
4. Shake off meat pieces and add them to the oil and stir until slightly browned, Add remaining flour from the bag and the finely chopped onion.
5. Stir until well browned.
6. Add finely chopped carrot and next 4 ingredients.

A new gambit by the oil-dealing kingdom would have Western oil guzzlers paying for using less oil. Sounds like the opposite of reality, you say? The Saudis say it's the only way they'll be able to afford helping the fight against global warming.

Saudi climate negotiator, Mohammad al-Sabban, described the position as a “make or break” measure for the oil-heavy kingdom in the lead-up to global climate negotiations in Copenhagen. In an email exchange with the times, al-Sabban said wealthy Western countries like the United States should help the Saudis with "economic diversification" by paying for oil they don't even use.

Environmentalists say the idea is ludicrous.

“It is like the tobacco industry asking for compensation for lost revenues as a part of a settlement to address the health risks of smoking,”

Brownie for One!

Chocolaty indulgence at in it's simplest form!

5 min | 4 min prep |

SERVES 1 , 1 brownie (change servings and units)

Ingredients

1/4 cup flour

1/4 cup sugar

2 tablespoons baking cocoa

2 tablespoons water

2 tablespoons vegetable oil or canola oil

1 dash salt

1/4 teaspoon vanilla

Directions

Combine all ingredients in a mug.

Mix well.

Microwave on high for 45-60 seconds, be sure not to overcook. Brownie should still be wet on sides and in the middle when done.

The cost of supporting Israel increased drastically after the 1973 Israeli-Arab war. U.S. support for Israel during that war resulted in additional costs for the American taxpayer of between $750 billion and $1 trillion. When Israel was losing the war, President Richard Nixon stepped in to supply the Jewish state with U.S. weapons. Nixon’s intervention triggered the Arab oil embargo, which cost the U.S. as much as $600 billion in lost GDP and another $450 billion in higher oil import costs.

The 1973 oil crisis cost the U.S. economy no less than $900 billion, and probably as much as $1.2 trillion. As a result of the oil embargo the U.S. government created the Strategic Petroleum Reserve (SPR) to “insulate Israel and the U.S. against the wielding of a future Arab “oil weapon.”

IT IS OFTEN REPORTED THAT ISRAEL receives about $9.2 billion every year in the form of economic aid from the U.S. government, but there are many billions of dollars more in hidden costs and economic losses lurking beneath the surface. A recently published economic analysis concluded that U.S. support for the state of Israel has cost U.S. taxpayers nearly $3 trillion. The largest single element in the costs has been the series of oil-supply crises that have accompanied the Israeli-Arab wars and the construction of the Strategic Petroleum Reserve
