Comedian Lewis Black is dismayed by the number of American landmarks that have been falling into foreign hands due to the country's economic problems. In a segment on Tuesday's Daily Show, Black complained that "America's gone from a beacon of hope to a beacon of insane deals. It's the End of an Empire sale -- and everything must go!"

"We're so hard up for cash, we're dismantling America and selling it for scrap," Black lamented. "The Chrysler Building -- going once, going twice, sold. Abu Dhabi bought the skyscraper for $800 million."

As his second example, Black pointed out that "this $95 million oceanfront mansion once owned by Donald Trump was just bought by a Russian fertilizer mogul" -- who may tear it down to build something else. "Wow," Black exclaimed. "Trump's design esthetic is even tacky to a guy who sells shit for a living!"

"It's a little sad that Americans don't come through and buy things like this," was Trump's own comment on the sale.

With at least 7,000 islands in or bordering the Caribbean Sea, representing 23 sovereign states and various foreign dependencies, there's a lot of room to grow.

While a bare-bones condominium in a place like the Dominican Republic can sell for as little as $40,000, prices in these packed-with-amenities resorts are much higher. Offering everything from nanny service to massages to private chefs, the higher-end developments can rival the cost of oceanfront resort developments stateside.

Of course, some Caribbean islands are also famous as tax havens, charging permanent residents no or low property, capital gains, inheritance or income taxes (although Americans should always check with their tax advisers to see if and how these breaks apply to them). For some wealthy individuals, that's as much of an incentive to buy as the prospect of a cool drink and a hammock by the sea.

PORT ORANGE, Fla. — Authorities say a group of children playing ball on a beach discovered an adult human skeleton in the back yard of home near Port Orange, Florida.

The sheriff's office in Volusia County says yesterday's find is being investigated as a suspicious death. The person had been dead for a few months, but it's not clear if the remains belong to a man or woman.

The group of children, ages 11 to 13, chased their ball into the large yard of the oceanfront home. They found the decomposed remains in thick grass about three feet from a sea wall.

The sheriff's office is talking to the residents of the home.

Port Orange is 6 miles south of Daytona Beach.
