When it comes to policy, Millennials are liberal interventionists on economic issues, active multilateralists in foreign affairs and tolerant non-meddlers on social issues-a profile that most closely matches the Democratic Party's platform as well as the new President's agenda.

Their propensity to vote straight Democratic was clearly evident in 2008 when young voters supported Democratic congressional candidates by about the same margin that they did Obama (63% vs. 34%).

The first large wave of the Millennial Generation, about one third of the young Americans born from 1982-2003, entered the electorate to decisively support President-elect Barack Obama. Young voters preferred Obama over John McCain by a greater than 2:1 margin (66% vs. 32%).

Dispelling the myth that young people never vote, Millennials cast ballots in larger numbers than young voters had in any recent presidential election. About 23 million young people, an increase of 3.4 million over 2004, accounted for almost two-thirds of the overall 5.4 million increase in voter turnout.

Republican Internet guru Patrick Ruffini pointed out that without Millennials, Obama would not have won the combined 73 electoral votes of Florida, Indiana, Ohio, and North Carolina.

Millennials are every bit as supportive of the Democratic Party as they are of Obama personally.

More of them consider themselves liberals rather than conservatives (31% to 18%)

Ex-employees tell ABC News the firm used dog food sacks to smuggle unauthorized weapons to Iraq.

A federal grand jury in North Carolina is investigating allegations the controversial private security firm Blackwater illegally shipped assault weapons and silencers to Iraq, hidden in large sacks of dog food, ABCNews.com has learned.

Under State Department rules, Blackwater is prohibited from using certain assault weapons and silencers in Iraq because they are considered "offensive" weapons inappropriate for Blackwater's role as a private security firm protecting US diplomatic missions.

"The only reason you need a silencer is if you want to assassinate someone," said former CIA intelligence officer John Kiriakou, an ABC News consultant.

The amount of outright libel and slander and mendacious innuendo that goes on in political campaigns needs to be made costly.

North Carolina U.S. Sen.-elect Kay Hagan has withdrawn a defamation lawsuit against Elizabeth Dole over a TV campaign ad that Hagan said questioned her Christianity.

Hagan spokeswoman Colleen Flanagan said the dismissal motion was filed Thursday. The ad from Dole's re-election campaign questioned why Hagan attended a fundraiser hosted by an adviser to an atheist advocacy group.

Dole was criticized for running the ad in the final week of the heated campaign won by Hagan.

Flanagan said pursuing the lawsuit would only continue the focus "on a very personal and negative attack." A Dole campaign spokesman declined to comment.

Second- and third-grade students on a school bus in Rexburg, Idaho, chanted "assassinate Obama," a district official said.

Black figures were hanged by nooses from trees on Mount Desert Island, Maine, the Bangor Daily News reported.

Crosses were burned in yards of Obama supporters in Hardwick, N.J., and Apolacan Township, Pa.

Their time is coming an end, and they know it: whites will no longer be the majority population in the US by 2050.

Incidents around the country referring to President-elect Barack Obama are dampening the postelection glow of racial progress and harmony, highlighting the stubborn racism that remains in America.

From California to Maine, police have documented a range of alleged crimes, from vandalism and vague threats to at least one physical attack. Insults and taunts have been delivered by adults, college students and second-graders.

One was in Snellville, Ga., where Denene Millner said a boy on the school bus told her 9-year-old daughter the day after the election: "I hope Obama gets assassinated." That night, someone trashed her sister-in-law's front lawn, mangled the Obama lawn signs, and left two pizza boxes filled with human feces outside the front door, Millner said.

Barbara Tyler of Marietta, Ga., said she heard hateful Obama comments from white students, and that teachers cut off discussion about Obama's victory.

Divers reveal Blackbeard treasures

ATLANTIC BEACH, N.C. – Archeologists working on an underwater pirate shipwreck off the North Carolina coast revealed some exciting finds in a ship thought to be that of the pirate Blackbeard.

Divers have been searching through what they believe is the Queen Anne's Revenge since August. Tuesday, researchers unveiled artifacts like a cannon ball, pewter plates and a dagger hilt.

"Artifacts provide us with a tangible link to life in North Carolina when essentially North Carolina was a frontier," Richard Lawrence, of the North Carolina Underwater Archaeology Department, said.

Divers even discovered their first coin.

"We're all excited to see what kind of coin it is," Lawrence said. "Is it a French coin, a Spanish coin, an English coin?"

The crew also revealed a 2005 find headed to the Maritime Museum in Beaufort -- a part of a toilet.

“Even pirates would have needed a toilet," Dr. Jeff Crow, of the N.C. Department of Cultural Resources, said.

Who cares if the person she named in the attack is actually a Christian? It's bad form to misrepresent the person, but to discredit the multitude of Atheist and to have no one point out that Atheists are Americans to. I now have to fight the bile rising in my through.

Barack Obama’s historic election as president has dominated the news, as pundits pour over the results in an effort to explain what went right for Obama and wrong for John McCain.

But some results were decisive. Some candidates flat-out lost by unexpectedly large margins. Among them was U.S. Sen. Elizabeth Dole (R-N.C.). Dole was ousted by Kay Hagan, a North Carolina state senator, for the seat once held by the infamous Jesse Helms.

In the closing days of the Dole-Hagan race, religion became an issue, in a most unfortunate and unacceptable way. Dole, realizing that her lead in the polls had evaporated, authorized a commercial attacking Hagan for attending a fund-raiser that was hosted by Woody Kaplan, who sits on the advisory board of the Godless Americans Political Action Committee.

Hagan is not “godless.” She is a Presbyterian who once taught Sunday school. But even if she were a religious skeptic, so what?

Oh boy. I guess they've forgotten how all of these Republicans were crowing about a "mandate" after Bush's 2004 "win", despite the smallest margins for an incumbent president in nearly 100 years. Because rather than see Obama's victory as a call for a change to business as usual (including flipping some red states--hello North Carolina, Indiana and Florida!--and key Senate seats), the Republicans see the election results not as the time to reach across the aisle in the spirit of unity and bipartisanship, but to "gird their loins" and fight:

Senator McCain is an American hero, a remarkable man. I can think of few I respect more. But he's likely to be the first to be leading the charge toward bipartisanship. This would be a mistake of galactic proportions. This must be resisted.[..]

And even in the face of this, there are conservatives still whining that we don't respect Bush enough.

Speaking to a college audience in Boston, Mass. Friday, "Daily Show" host Jon Stewart used his stand-up routine to respond to Sarah Palin's comments about "pro-America" parts of the country, shedding the profanity restrictions that govern his Comedy Central show.

Air Force Airman Alleges Rape, Is Charged With Indecent Acts, and Faces Court-Martial

On the night of May 12, 2006 there was a party at Pope Air Force Base in Fayetteville, North Carolina. Cassandra Hernandez, an airman in the United States Air Force, attended the party and, although underage, she drank alcohol there. Later, she says, she was attacked and raped by three male airmen in another airman's barracks and escaped from them while only partially clothed.

Hernandez reported the alleged rapes and was taken to the hospital for a rape kit, physical examination and medical treatment. She also required counseling and therapy after the traumatic event.

An Air Force defense attorney for the three men interrogated her without her victim's advocate present.

North Carolina Sen. Elizabeth Dole's campaign is refusing to take down an ad that accuses her Democratic rival, Kay Hagan, of accepting money from "godless Americans," after Hagan demanded that the Republican incumbent "cease and desist."

The two campaigns are in a nasty dispute over the commercial, which began running statewide in North Carolina Tuesday.

Hagan sent Dole a letter Wednesday demanding she take down the ad, and held a press conference in the morning at which, according to prepared remarks, she called it an attack on her "Christian faith."

The ad accuses Hagan of attending a "secret fundraiser" hosted by the Godless Americans PAC last month.

"Godless Americans and Kay Hagan. She hid from cameras. Took godless money," the narrator says. "What did Kay Hagan promise in return?"

NC teen who studies traffic deaths killed in head-on crash

RALEIGH, N.C. - A North Carolina teenager who studied teen highway deaths as a senior high school project is dead after a crash.

18-year-old Shannon Nicole Adkins graduated last spring after turning in a report about the risks facing young drivers on the mainly rural roads of Johnston County.

The News & Observer of Raleigh reported Monday that Adkins was the 27th Johnston County teen to die in a wreck since the start of 2006 and the second in just over a week.

The highway patrol said Adkins was driving a pickup truck when another pickup crossed into her lane Saturday night and struck her head-on.

The other driver was a 29-year-old woman who was hospitalized in fair condition and charged with driving while impaired.

Take a Bow, America

The markets are battered and job losses are skyrocketing, but even in the midst of a national economic crisis, we should not lose sight of the profound significance of this week and what it tells us about the continuing promise of America.

Voters said no to incompetence and divisiveness and elbowed their way past the blight of racism that has been such a barrier to progress for so long. Barack Obama won the state of North Carolina, for crying out loud.

You knew something was up when the exit polls revealed early Tuesday evening that Senator Obama had carried the white working-class vote in Indiana, one of the reddest of the red states and a onetime stronghold of the Ku Klux Klan.

I got a call on Friday from David Goodman, whose brother Andrew was one of three civil rights workers slain in the searing racial heat of Mississippi in 1964.

“It’s shocking, isn’t it?” he said of the election.

I agreed.

“It’s wonderful,” he said.

The nation deserves to take a bow.
