The annual Greenpeace Guide to Greener Electronics has named Nokia as the most eco-friendly electronic brand.

In the ninth edition of its guide, Greenpeace has declared that Nokia is a step ahead of other well-known manufacturers like Samsung and Nintendo.

Nokia managed to get a high score of seven out of ten possible points, because of its improved take-back practices in India, toxic chemical issues, utilizing models free of PVC and aiming to have all new models free of brominated flame retardants and antimony trioxide by the end of 2009, reports Environmental News Network.

Second in the list of greener electronics was Samsung with 5.7 points, because of the increased energy-efficiency of its products.

It also scores well on its use of recycled plastic, at 16.1 percent, though only 0.2 percent is post-consumer plastic, with a goal to increase to 25 percent by 2008.

Fey keeps a grip on her haul of statuettes at last Sunday's Emmys in L.A.

Specifically, it arrived at around 11 p.m. last Sunday as Fey, dressed to the nines in a slinky David Meister gown, hoisted three Emmy Awards backstage at Los Angeles' Nokia Theatre amid a sea of suits.

She nabbed one for lead actress in a comedy series, one for comedy writing and one for the show she created that made it all possible, "30 Rock."

Emmy Awards 2008 are announced on 21st September. This 60th annual Primetime Emmy Awards, a funnier award show was held in Los Angeles at the Nokia Theatre on 21st September (Sunday night).

30 Rock of NBC brushed the Comedy class, got four awards. Alec Baldwin and Tina Fey, the show’s stars won Emmy’s for outstanding lead actor and actress in comedy category.

Released for Verizon Wireless, the Nokia 6205 (The Dark Knight Edition) is clad in a mysterious black color and embellished with a subtle "The Dark Knight" emblem. The Batman movie-themed clamshell features images from Gotham City, wallpapers, voice tones, animated screensavers inspired by the film and a full movie trailer.

Even for gadget freaks, it was tough to take one's attention away from the outstanding action that filled The Dark Knight from beginning to end, but when Morgan Freeman had to hand over his Nokia XpressMedia 5800 (or Tube, as it were) at a stop in Hong Kong, we had to take a moment and gush. Nokia's still-not-official handset had a few critical scenes where it was highlighted, though we'd wager it was only viewable for 4 to 5 seconds in total.

Nokia in full buy-out of Symbian

Finnish mobile phone giant Nokia is paying 264m euros ($410m; £209m) to buy out the other shareholders in handset software firm Symbian.

Nokia, which already owns 48% of the UK-based firm, intends to develop its software to compete with Google's planned Android operating system.

Nokia said Sony Ericsson, Ericsson, Panasonic and Siemens had agreed to sell their stakes in Symbian.

It added that Samsung was also expected to accept the offer.

For its part, Symbian said the takeover was "a fundamental step" in the establishment of the Symbian Foundation, which is expected to start operating in the first half of 2009.

The foundation will bring together Nokia, AT&T, LG, Motorola, NTT Docomo, Samsung, Sony Ericsson, STMicroelectronics, Texas Instruments and Vodafone in collaboration on a new, royalty-free open software platform for mobile phones.

The news comes one day after reports that Google's Android platform for mobile phones had suffered delays.

Samsung takes Motorola’s place

The January-March 2008 quarter witnessed some shakeups in the rankings of the Indian Mobile phone vendors. Whilst Nokia continues to demonstrate its market leadership by a wide margin, seconded by Sony Ericsson. The third spot has shown some changes with Samsung surpassing Motorola to capture the number 3 spot in the Indian mobile market.

According to ORG data, Samsung shines out as the only leading telecom player to have hiked its market share in the Indian market during January-March period. It currently enjoys 7 % market share as compared to 5.7 % in the beginning of the quarter1. Motorola India lost market share from 6.7% to 5.9%, but Sony Ericsson remained at the same level of 8.1%. Even the market leader Nokia lost market share in India from 72.3% to 69.5% in the period January and March.

Google's Schmidt: Mobile Internet The Future Of Advertising

Schmidt credits the iPhone's browser for taking mobile advertising to the next level. Heise Online quotes Schmidt as saying, "The iPhone was the first mobile device with a good Web browser, and more such devices will follow. Advertising will then become very personal. In a few years, mobile advertising will generate more revenue than advertising on the normal Web."

You can't fault Schmidt's comments about the iPhone, but other browsers aren't far behind. Opera's Mobile and Mini browsers are both capable of displaying ads on mobile Web pages. The same is true of Nokia (NYSE: NOK)'s S60 browser. There's also a host of other mobile browsers set to hit the market, such as the Android browser, Skyfire, and Mobile Mozilla. The browsers, however, aren't the issue. Mobile advertising won't be the juggernaut Schmidt says it will be without targeting ads correctly.

Here we have a great little YouTube video showing off just how far we have come in the world of mobile phones. Without having to watch the video, I am sure you already know just how much they have advanced, but its still an interesting watch as they point out some interesting tidbits and facts along the way. For example, did you know that the Motorola StarTAC in 1996 was not only the first to offer a clamshell design but the first to also include a vibrate feature or that the Nokia 3210 in 2000 was the first with both an internal antenna and also T9 predictive text.
