The following clips show that while she is alive and crying for help she is taunted and kicked in her stomach until someone finishes her off by throwing a large stone on her face.

From the clips it appears that the girl was first stripped naked to symbolize that she had dishonored her family and her Yezidi religion. She is lying on the road naked while her smashed face is covered with blood and still breathing.

Tags: murder, violence, stoning, predjudice

<clipSource>http://www.boingboing.net/2007/05/06/iraq_kurdish_girl_st.html</clipSource>

This is Iran: Tell Me What do You See?

clipped by: ratilfar
clipper's remarks: This is from a post from a blogmigo. Very interesting pics and very interesting post.

NOTE: Considering how some people in clipmarks feel about Muslim in general (and Mexicans and Iranians in particular) if you follow the link just so you can throw hate at him, don't bother, please go somewhere else.

Clip Source: www.theunapologeticmexican.org

LET'S TAKE A WALK THROUGH IRAN.

Here are images, I wanted to lay them out. As glimpses. Isolated glimpses into another country, one that mostly exists for us in scary soundbytes and media-approved shots of hangings and flame and the dark dark chador and the obscuring burqa. We pump the hot gas of our fear and media worship into those shadowy shapes, because after all, all of us here in the USA are experts at marketing and advertising and image. We take joy in our trade. This is our most intensive area of training.

I don't go in too much for religion. But I do appreciate the art that moves the hands of humans when they feel inspired. I feel much the same way as I have standing in some vast, ornate churches in New York. There are a few beauties.

A wedding in Iran. righthand
clipper's remarks: "The United States, some years back, found its new bogeyman "Islam" to replace its former imaginary enemy "Communism." And now the European press appears to have finally (?) found a replacement for the Jewish people that they used to malign and attack. Anti-Islam/Muslimism appears to now have officially replaced anti-Jewish sentiments in Europe.

The roots of these attacks are the same: an inability to acknowledge and respect a diversity of people that might result in a Europe that is non-White and/or non-Christian.

The anti-Muslim/Islam cartoons of today are little different than the anti-Jewish cartoons that were published by the Nazis during WW II."

Clip Source: ihsan-net.blogspot.com

SEVERAL POLLS indicate that the term "atheism" has acquired such an extraordinary stigma in the United States that being an atheist is now a perfect impediment to a career in politics (in a way that being black, Muslim or homosexual is not). According to a recent Newsweek poll, only 37% of Americans would vote for an otherwise qualified atheist for president.

Atheists are often imagined to be intolerant, immoral, depressed, blind to the beauty of nature and dogmatically closed to evidence of the supernatural.

Atheists believe that life is meaningless.

Atheism is responsible for the greatest crimes in human history.

Atheism is dogmatic.

Atheists think everything in the universe arose by chance.

Atheism has no connection to science.

Atheists are arrogant.

Atheists are closed to spiritual experience.

Atheists believe that there is nothing beyond human life and human understanding.

Atheists ignore the fact that religion is extremely beneficial to society.

Atheism provides no basis for morality.

We have made considerable moral progress over the years, and we didn't make this progress by reading the Bible or the Koran more closely. Both books condone the practice of slavery — and yet every civilized human being now recognizes that slavery is an abomination. Whatever is good in scripture — like the golden rule — can be valued for its ethical wisdom without our believing that it was handed down to us by the creator of the universe.

Tags: religion, atheism, logic, truth, rationality

<clipSource>http://www.latimes.com/news/opinion/la-op-harris24dec24,0,4813155,print.story</clipSource>

20 Greatest Innovations by Muslims

clipped by: redhead328

Clip Source: www.wonderfulinfo.com

20 Greatest Innovations by Muslims

From

Eighteen percent of Americans think the sun revolves around the earth, one poll has found. Thus it seems slightly less egregious that, according to another poll, 10 percent of us think that Senator Barack Obama, a Christian, is instead a Muslim. The Obama campaign has created a Web site to dispel misinformation. But this effort may be more difficult than it seems, thanks to the quirky way in which our brains store memories - and mislead us along the way.

The brain does not simply gather and stockpile information as a computer's hard drive does. Facts are stored first in the hippocampus, a structure deep in the brain about the size and shape of a fat man's curled pinkie finger. But the information does not rest there. Every time we recall it, our brain writes it down again, and during this re-storage, it is also reprocessed. In time, the fact is gradually transferred to the cerebral cortex and is separated from the context in which it was originally learned

Tags: brain, misleading, false beliefs

<clipSource>http://www.iht.com/articles/2008/06/29/opinion/edwang.php</clipSource>

The Biggest Threat to the West Lies Within Itself, Not with Islam

clipped by: Kore7
clipper's remarks: Simon Jenkins on threats to peace and democracy.
This defeatism led the American Congress to allow its president to authorise torture and detention without trial in what Senator Robert Byrd called “the slow unravelling of the people’s liberties”. It enabled a British Home Office to curb free speech and habeas corpus. It arms police, fortifies buildings and impedes the free movement of citizens. It makes every Christian suspicious of every Muslim.

Clip Source: www.timesonline.co.uk

The biggest threat to the West lies within itself, not with Islam

The chief threat to world security at present lies in the capacity of tiny
groups of political Islamists to goad the West into a rolling military
retaliation.

Extremists on each side feed off the others’ frenzied scenarios
so as to garner money and political support for their respective armies of
the night. Each sees the other as a cosmic menace and abandons communal
tolerance and peaceful diplomacy to counter it.

To portray Islam as a whole
as a concerted threat to western security, and to imply that the West’s
democratic institutions and freedoms are not proof against that threat, is
absurd and close to treason. Then to demand that western freedoms be
dismantled and stored away for the duration of a “war on terror” is to wave
the flag of surrender.

I believe in the robustness of the democracies created in the West over the
past half-century. I am not sure that our leaders do.

		COLCHESTER --

Caitlin Dean was raised not to discriminate against others because of their race or religion. But as a white suburban teen of Italian and Irish descent, she often wondered what it would be like to be the target of such abuse.

She found out "behind the burqa."

The 15-year-old freshman volunteered with a few other students to wear traditional Muslim clothing to school for an entire day in February after a Middle Eastern Studies teacher at Bacon Academy announced that she was looking for students to promote her class by wearing the garb. Caitlin covered her slender frame and short brown hair with a periwinkle burqa, which concealed her face.

The hateful and abusive comments she endured that day horrified teachers

"Hey, we rape your women!" one upperclassman said as he passed Caitlin in the hallway.

"I hope all of your people die," another sniped.

Caitlin called it "The Girl Behind the Burqa."

Tags: news, discrimination

<clipSource>http://www.courant.com/news/education/hc-burqa0312.artmar12,0,3126355.story?coll=hc-headlines-home</clipSource>

What is an American?

clipped by: mugofcoffee
clipper's remarks: pl read the whole article: very nice..

Clip Source: www.opey.com

A while back there was a report that someone in Pakistan had published in a
newspaper that offered a reward to anyone who killed an American, any American!

So an Australian dentist wrote the following to let everyone know what an American is,
so they would know when they found one:

An American is English, or French, or Italian, Irish, German, Spanish, Polish, Russian or Greek.

An American may also be Canadian, Mexican, African, Indian, Chinese, Japanese, Korean, Australian, Iranian, Asian, or Arab, or Pakistani, or Afghan.

An American is Christian, or he could be Jewish, or Buddhist, or Muslim. In fact,
there are more Muslims in America than in Afghanistan. The only difference is that
in America they are free to worship as each of them chooses.

An American is also free to believe in no religion. For that he will answer only to
God, not to the government, or to armed thugs claiming to speak for the government and for God.

An American is generous.

<clipSource>http://www.opey.com/american.html</clipSource>

Atheists: Most hated group in America

clipped by: LGagnon
clipper's remarks: Religious bigots, as usual, are trying to find a scapegoat for their problems. It doesn't surprise me that history is repeating itself, especially in this country.

Clip Source: atheism.about.com

Every single study that has ever looked at the issue has revealed massive amounts of bigotry and prejudice against atheists in America. The most recent data shows that atheists are more distrusted and despised than any other minority and that an atheist is the least likely person that Americans would vote for in a presidential election. It's not just that atheists are hated, though, but also that atheists seem to represent everything about modernity which Americans dislike or fear.

This group does not at all agree with my vision of American society...

There are too many religious theists who also want civil law to be secular rather than religious. Instead, I think that a much better case can be made for the idea that atheists are being scapegoated the same way that Catholics and Jews once were: they are treated as social outsiders who create "moral and social disorder."

The myth of Muslim support for terror

WASHINGTON - Those who think that Muslim countries and pro-terrorist attitudes go hand-in-hand might be shocked by new polling research: Americans are more approving of terrorist attacks against civilians than any major Muslim country except for Nigeria.

The survey, conducted in December 2006 by the University of Maryland's prestigious Program on International Public Attitudes, shows that only 46 percent of Americans think that "bombing and other attacks intentionally aimed at civilians" are "never justified," while 24 percent believe these attacks are "often or sometimes justified."

Contrast those numbers with 2006 polling results from the world's most-populous Muslim countries - Indonesia, Pakistan, Bangladesh, and Nigeria. Terror Free Tomorrow, the organization I lead, found that 74 percent of respondents in Indonesia agreed that terrorist attacks are "never justified"; in Pakistan, that figure was 86 percent; in Bangladesh, 81 percent.

Do these findings mean that Americans are closet terrorist sympathizers?

Hardly. Yet, far too often, Americans and other Westerners seem willing to draw that conclusion about Muslims. Public opinion surveys in the United States and Europe show that nearly half of Westerners associate Islam with violence and Muslims with terrorists. Given the many radicals who commit violence in the name of Islam around the world, that's an understandable polling result.

But these stereotypes, affirmed by simplistic media coverage and many radicals themselves, are not supported by the facts - and they are detrimental to the war on terror. When the West wrongly attributes radical views to all of the world's 1.5 billion Muslims, it perpetuates a myth that has the very real effect of marginalizing critical allies in the war on terror.

Tags: war, politics, government

<clipSource>http://news.yahoo.com/s/csm/20070223/cm_csm/yballen</clipSource>

Egypt's fight against female circumcision clashes with tradition

clipped by: Mohir

Clip Source: www.physorg.com

Egypt's fight against female circumcision clashes with tradition

Twice circumcised, Wafaa Helmy swore her own daughters would never suffer the same fate. But one night her own mother secretly took her first-born to go under the knife in their Upper Egypt village.

Despite pronouncements to the contrary by both Muslim and Christian clerics, she believes, as do many Egyptians, that this "purification" is a religious duty that helps preserve a girl's virtue and honour.

The social stigma of not having her granddaughter's labia and/or clitoris cut off was just too strong for her.

Anti-abortion fanatics spread fear by bombings, murders and assaults, but the media take little notice.

On Sept. 11, 2006, the fifth anniversary of the terror attacks that devastated our nation, a man crashed his car into a building in Davenport, Iowa, hoping to blow it up and kill himself in the fire.

No national newspaper, magazine or network newscast reported this attempted suicide bombing, though an AP wire story was available. Cable news (save for MSNBC's Keith Olbermann) was silent about this latest act of terrorism in America.

Had the criminal, David McMenemy, been Arab or Muslim, this would have been headline news for weeks. But since his target was the Edgerton Women's Health Center, rather than, say, a bank or a police station, media have not called this terrorism -- even after three decades of extreme violence by anti-abortion fanatics, mostly fundamentalist Christians who believe they're fighting a holy war.

Tags: abortion, fundamentalism, united states

<clipSource>http://www.alternet.org/story/43182/</clipSource>
