I came across a cool article on Environmental Graffiti about Anna Garforth and her Mossenger street art project that involves adorning public walls with green graffiti made from moss. Using the method that Garforth is using, disaffected youth can take turn their tagging terra-friendly by making moss murals. The Moss Green Graffiti is completely natural and organic as opposed to traditional enamel based spray that are ridden with CFCs, VOCs and a host of other scary acronyms that make mother nature cringe. clipper's remarks: According to this blog post on Gizmodo, the new Museum of Modern Arab Art in Doha, Qatar is being built in an artificial 350,000 square foot sand dune. It won't be completed until 2011, but in the meantime take a look at the mock-up.

If you happen to be driving through the desert near Doha, Qatar and notice an unusual number of Bentleys and Ferraris parked in front of a sand dune, you may find you're actually looking at the Museum of Modern Arab Art, a two-level, air-conditioned 350,000-square-foot facility celebrating over 10,000 works of art.

The museum, designed by architect Rafael Viñoly in NYC, will be completed by 2011, and will show off a collection of 5,000 paintings, 700 antiques, sculptures, metalwork and ceramics, a calligraphy section—not fancy party invitations, mind you, but elaborately ornate murals and manuscripts ranging from the early Qur'anic period to modern times—and other areas will include photography and applied arts. It may not surprise you to know that this collection is actually entirely owned by one dude, Sheikh Hassan Bin Mohammed Al-Thani, which he started amassing 10 short years ago.

Dick Termes paints murals on spheres. And he does it with a unique "six-point" perspective technique that permits a remarkable optical illusion.

As you watch this video, try to convince yourself that the front half of the sphere is transparent and that the mural is painted on the concave interior of the farther side. If you succeed, the spin will seem to reverse direction and you'll find yourself inside the painting:

Emma Hack is an award winning body artist at the forefront of an art form growing in worldwide popularity. Her work has been seen at the Tiffany & Co store launch in Dubai, and a Playstation 2 commercial in Hong Kong. But it’s her 2007 collection titled ‘Oriental Delights’ that launched her on the world stage.

These images featured Florence Broadhurst’s wallpaper murals mixed with quirky body art that created 3D human wallpaper that quite literally, brought the walls to life. “I love working with the beautiful and aesthetically pleasing designs of the late Florence Broadhurst,” Emma says. “They allow for a lovely energy with the nude form.”

clipper's remarks: I had the good fortune to see Kara Walker's exhibit at the Hammer Museum hear in Los Angeles. I'm not an artist, nor do I have an educational background in art, but I have to say I was beyond impressed with her work. Her pieces are undoubtedly controversial, especially in an era where I've actually heard people say out loud "There is no racism" and "forget slavery...it was so long ago!" Her artwork, a mix of murals, sketches, wall projections, puppetry, and video made me think deeply about the existence -both past and present- of oppression in the forms of racism and patriarchy. I proudly hale Kara Walker as one bad ass Invincible Sista.
