BAGHDAD - Worried about the global financial meltdown? Here's a tip: try Iraq.

Stock markets across the globe may be tanking, but the Baghdad bourse is booming, with the general index of Iraq's stock exchange up by nearly 40 percent last month.

Brokers -- sweat stains spreading under their armpits -- wrote the latest stock prices on a wall of whiteboards, the Baghdad bourse's answer to computer screens.

Investors waved and made hand signals at the brokers working behind a low partition. Hotels and banks were the hottest picks among the exchange's 95 listed companies.

"People know the hotel stocks are undervalued ... They think that in the new year companies will come to Iraq and the hotel business will flourish," said investor Saad Jalil, adding that the bourse was the busiest he'd ever seen it.

The world banking crisis won't affect us, our market is sealed off from the outside. We don't even have electronic trading."

Here is the big Conspiracy: He told the Iraqi government what the USA law was, concerning future plans for Iraq.

The USA law is that Congress has to vote on any agreement.

Shocking!

This is like the law that says Congress is suppose to vote on wars; (it sure would be nice if they got back to that basic Constitutional mandate).

But here's the Real Shocker: the Bush Administration wants to sign a "private contract," with Iraq, allowing the war to go on and for permanent occupation.

They call this private contract a "Status of Forces Agreement."

By doing it this way they claim they can avoid the hassle of going to Congress.

These *()*$#8 do this all the time. We don't go to war anymore. The president makes private 'Status of Forces Agreements."

We got them all over the world. They try to keep them secret.

Palin: Obama put 'ambition above country'

JEFFERSON CITY, Missouri (CNN) -- Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin on Friday said Sen. Barack Obama put "ambition above country" after a newspaper reported that Obama may have tried to influence Iraqi politicians negotiating with the United States.

The Washington Times, a conservative newspaper, reported Friday that Obama told Iraqi leaders in Baghdad in June that an agreement between the United States and the leaders to allow U.S. troops to stay in the country after 2008 should not go into effect unless it had congressional approval.

But the campaign of Obama's Republican rival, Sen. John McCain, argued that Obama's call interfered with U.S. efforts to reach a "status of forces agreement" with the Iraqi government. The U.S. and Iraq have yet to announce a final agreement despite numerous reports that one was near.

I threw families onto the street in Iraq, only to come home and ﬁnd families thrown onto the street in this country, in this tragic and unnecessary foreclosure crisis. Our enemies are not ﬁve thousand miles away, they are right here at home, and if we organize and ﬁght, we can stop this war, we can stop this government, and we can create a better world.

We were told we were ﬁghting terrorists; the real terrorist was me, and the real terrorism is this occupation. Racism within the military has long been an important tool to justify the destruction and occupation of another country. Without racism, soldiers would realize that they have more in common with the Iraqi people than they do with the billionaires who send us to war.

We never got any explanation for our orders. We were only told that a group of ﬁve or six houses was now property of the U.S. military, and we had to go in and make those families leave their houses.

This statement--made near the end of Friday's debate--immediately infuriated veterans across America and overseas. In fact, Senator John McCain has a very clear, long, and illustrious history of not supporting troops and veterans one bit.

The draft of a new National Intelligence Estimate on Iraq says that the country is in danger of flying apart in a new spiral of violence provoked by unresolved conflicts between Sunnis, Shias, Kurds and other groups.

Throughout Sen. John McCain’s presidential campaign, the Republican nominee has wrapped himself in the mantle of U.S. Army Gen. David H. Petraeus, proclaiming himself the leading advocate of the former commanding general in Iraq who devised last year’s controversial troop surge. Yet during a talk Wednesday about Iraq at the Heritage Foundation, a conservative Washington policy organization, Petraeus repeatedly made statements that bolstered the foreign-policy proposals of Sen. Barack Obama, McCain’s Democratic rival, or cut against McCain’s own lines.

Petraeus relinquished command in Iraq last month. He assumes responsibility for U.S. Central Command later this month, putting him in charge of U.S. forces in the Middle East and South Asia.

Petraeus pointed to efforts by Hamid Karzai’s government to negotiate a deal with the Taliban that would potentially bring some Taliban members back to power, saying that if they are “willing to reconcile,” it would be “a positive step.”

Widow sues US over Iraq veteran's suicide

The widow of an Iraq war veteran who committed suicide while in outpatient care for depression at a Veterans Administration hospital has sued the federal government for negligence.

Tiera Woodward, 26, claims in her lawsuit that her late husband, Donald, sought treatment at a VA hospital in Lebanon after three failed suicide attempts but was not seen by a psychiatrist for more than two months.

She says doctors were slow to diagnose her husband with major depression, and that once the diagnosis was made, a psychiatrist failed to schedule a follow-up meeting with her husband after he informed the doctor he had gone off his medication.

Donald Woodward killed himself in March 2006 at age 23.

"I intend to make them make changes," said Donald Woodward's mother, Lori Woodward. "I have too many friends whose kids are in Iraq. I have a nephew now in Iraq, in the same unit, and I can't have my family go through this again."
